Side-scrollers: Genre of the Past and the Future

BMC: When I was a teenager back in the late '90s, I never would have guessed that there would be a 2D side-scroller renaissance in the year 2010.

Can you blame me? With the 1996 release of Super Mario 64, Nintendo drastically changed the direction of video games, as developers rushed to jump on the 3D bandwagon. The majority of titles, though, proved to be nothing more than cheap cash-ins and Mario knockoffs, completely forgotten by most of today's consumers.
