blog.mag.com: Everyone here at Zipper Interactive is extremely proud to announce that our next downloadable MAG update, MAG 2.0, is not only our biggest and most important patch yet, but also one that’s less than a month away!
I'm really happy with the level of support Zipper is putting into the game. I own it but didn't care for the gameplay at the start and figured they fix a lot of the issues.
Eventually, I have to go back and try it out with all the new changes. I may not like it, but when a developer keeps up the support of it like they have, you owe it to them to at least see what changes they've made.
Meh... MAG wasn't even a complete game when it released, IMHO, so I'd hardly call them scrambling to redo the thing a major achievement.
MAG 1.x felt more like a tech demo/extended beta. That's why the initial user base left in droves. It was unpolished, unbalanced, had insufficient clan support, had no training mode or documentation to speak of (so SL's and CO's were completely incompetent), the GFX were undistinguished, the maps lacked variety and were locked to a coalition, the vehicles were pointless, no persistent compelling shadow war as promised, you could go on all day ... it just felt like they had worked so damn hard to shoehorn 256 players in that EVERYTHING else fell by the wayside in the initial release.
This is an effort to bail the water out of a sinking ship rather than "great support". People like to call out COD/MW2 on being glitchy and buggy every time it gets patched but zipper does it to the point of having to essentially rework the entire game and it's suddenly being responsive and supportive... talk about a double standard.
Gotta completely disagree with you there FragGen. It was definitely a complete game with a lot of action and gameplay. My issues were with choices in gameplay design choices, not in the overall feeling that gameplay was incomplete, because it wasn't.
Well MAG premise is to have massive battles going on and it has been pretty sucessful at it.
Yeah it may lack some polishing here and there (as someone has pointed out animations are poor) but the rounds are pretty smooth and fun. Furtunately MAG core works very well and it is not glitched to the extend to be a heaven for cheaters.
Contrary to what you are saying Zipper have been supporting this game since day one. Listening the community and improving the balance/gameplay in several ways.
I'm happy MAG 2.0 is coming out. The visuals are even better (they were pretty acceptable for a game of this scale) and the upgrade/economy system is getting an overhaul. It is gonna be fun.
and think the exact opposite, and you will have a perfect description of what MAG is.
Here, I'll do it for you:
MAG 1.x felt like a complete and polished product. That's why the initial user base got hooked and played it a lot within a very short time span. It was well polished, expertly balanced, had great clan support, a training mode and documentation (so SL's and CO's could learn what they were supposed to do), the GFX were quite good, the maps varied and huge, the vehicles EXTREMELY useful**, a persistent compelling shadow war as promised, you could go on all day ... it just felt like they had worked so damn hard to shoehorn 256 players in that EVERYTHING else fell right into place and came together to make a very compelling game at release.
There, that's MAG.
**HOW THE FUCK IS HAVING A MOBILE SPAWN POINT NOT USEFUL?? Also, when the maps are so huge that it takes a few minutes for a mechanic to walk from the back spawn to the front lines to repair extremely important defenses, then having a fast and agile jeep to take you there in 20 seconds is also EXTREMELY important. You fail hard FragGen.
I'd like to see more suppression maps. If I'm playing by myself, I feel kinda lost in some of these other game modes. Some kind of co-op or Massive Zombie add on would be icing on the cake.
MAG was (and I guess still is) a captivating online experience. It's such a shame that it was released in an era dominated by FPS's such as Call of Duty, as a lot of people refused to come out of their comfort zone and give the game a genuine chance.
i think thats like 70% of why people thought the game looked cheap to most people
if they can get that down, and put some more rpg elements into it where you need to buy new armor and a like 50 different weapons and it takes you like a year to get everything, i think it could be a very, very huge game that everyone looks forward to
I agree. MAG overall felt very cheap and didn't provide that visual-flare that keeps pumps the adrenaline. I very much want to like MAG, but first MAG has to get the overhaul it deserves. 256p is seriously an awesome idea and I've participated in a few (after hours of grinding for ranks: totally worth it).
Patch 1.07 took care of the animations and made them better. MAG is my favorite FPS this generation and let me tell you, I don't think I could play another fps until other match what Zipper has done. The battles in each mode is very intense and full of people that 16 x 16 seems like an empty parkinglot! The beauty of MAG is that it's always evloving into a new game. Look at it from release to now, it's not the same game! It keeps on getting better and better! I'm a 4x vett. 500+ hrs.
I've extensively played the Beta. The animations and sounds have received a major overhaul, as have many other performance issues. The game has a consistently much higher frame rate too. To this day, and I bought it at launch, MAG remains my number 1 played game.
so call of duty isnt to glitchy, has amazing graphics, and realistic recoil?? get the fuck out of here man. if the game isnt for u, then at least give reasons that make sense. MAG servers are amazing, the graphics are good, and the recoil is fine. ever since the new beta program, everything has been revamped. from recoil, to sound effects, animations, servers, EVERYTHING. call of duty has more problems with it then a cancer patient with diabetes.
Yet another player who has probably never fired a weapon and certainly nothing fully automatic. At least go check out some YouTube videos and see what REAL recoil is like with similar weapons before commenting on what games have realistic recoil.

Did anyone who plays MAG currently ever have the problems I ran into the first few days it was out? I ended up selling it to GameStop 4 or 5 days after I bought it because 80% of the time I would try to enter a game and the screen would be stuck on an overview of the battlefield. I figured it was a server problem because it was the first day it was out but 4 or 5 days later it was still happening. I was so annoyed I got rid of it.
I don't know if you are kidding or not. Maybe you are just new to online gaming in general.
NEVER judge a games online experience on the first week or so of release, especially on an online only game. I personally can't remember and major problems. It always played fine... but, yes... they have fixed this game 10 times over.
it happened to me a few times. Also, sometimes it would take a few minutes before I'd respawn, even though the respawn counter would go through a few cycles.
Zipper fixed that issue VERY soon after launch. I can't believe you would be so impatient to re-sell your game within a few days because... Oh, CoD4 avatar... Forget I said anything.
Edit: your avatar is making fun of CoD? Not bad! Are you a fan of the game?
The whole "he likes COD so he doesn't know anything" argument is getting old.
I am well aware of the problems with MW (grenade spam) and MW2 (tons of issues) but I still play and enjoy the games.. but I play and enjoy LOTS of games (currently Halo, if that's ok with you guys).
Problems with online only games are to be expected but when I can't even PLAY for a almost a week, yeah I get annoyed. I paid for a game I couldn't even use to even see if it had the usual issues people complain about. There is no excuse for that.
Edit: Also, I'm glad they fixed the issues with MAG. I have no disdain for new and different games, only people who stereotype me for liking a particular video game.. which is retarded.
I was actually "in" the battle but my character wouldn't show up. It was just some sort of glitch. I will probably pick up another copy of MAG now that everything seems to be moving along nicely.
I had that problem in the beta test before the game's release. However, once the game came out...I didn't experience it. I DID experience some of your other issues that you previously stated. But, I guess I was just a bit more patient with it. I just put the game down for the first 3 days and came back once the patch was released. I had stopped playing MAG for months and just recently got back into the game. It is SO different from what I remember that it's almost like a new game. They worked really hard on balancing issues with factions and maps, weapons, etc. The only frustration now is facing those throngs of players that never stopped playing and have that edge in experience. But, I love a challenge.
Bought this game over a month ago and still playing every day even though I have Halo Reach now. I'm like a level 44 now. dude is correct about the character animations..Am happy to hear about the 2.0 update. Will keep me online more.. PsMove I will give a try but doubt it will improve any K/D ratios.
Just get ready to die. The game is not noob friendly. Vets will slaughter 5-12 people by themselves if they cant aim. Get medkit and revive abilty at lv4. Make sure you change your loadout.
I wanted to chime in here. Is this MAG 2.0 free? Are this .99 subscription fee for extra chracter slots free?
I played MAG and vetted twice...almost made it to vet all 3. But, the issues addressed with 2.0 is great...but is not a dev support thing. I'm thinking it's a update to be relevant thing. And I will be surprised if this 2.0 is free.
They never fixed the bizarre issue of getting shot behind cover. You know what I'm talking about...it's the equivalent to lag. I have you shooting at me. You kill me. But on my tv I made it to cover...before I inexplicably die from the shot. It's total BS...but, I got used to it. Had 2.0 fixed this?
MW2 did slot right as well as wrong. But for my money...getting into matches as quick as MW2, that's good stuff!
Yup, 2.0 is free. It's just a patch that's an overhaul of the leveling up system. You'll be able to unlock guns and acquire money through kill and what not.
Using skill points is different on how we played it when you were still on MAG. It's almost kind of overwhelming since there's so many places you could put a skill point to improve your character and almost agonizing because if you dont upgrade normal running speed, you're like a slug in the game. Hopefully they take it out since i saw people in the beta that could run as fast as the cars in the game while wearing improved heavy armor. I've played the 2.0 beta only for the first two days it was release so i dont know if they fixed this issue.
Oh, the getting killed after you ducked behind cover when getting shot at still happens from time to time but not as much anymore. They reduced damage on some hit locations like the limbs. Usually part of the body is still exposed which gets you killed.
i need to get this game soon.
Also from what i read the 2.0 patch will do some major changes for the game that will keep the fans very happy.

I tried M.A.G & it wasn't for me.. too glitchy, average graphics & no recoil.
I hate to say it.. but I'll stick to mah' CoD gaming, thanks..
CoD does multiplayer perfectly & I can't complain about anything everytime I play it..
