Objection #4: The Case of the World of Warcraft Wannabe

GameSpy: Did you know that it's illegal to host your own private server for your favorite massively multiplayer online game? OK, maybe it's not a big deal if it's just you and a few buddies flying under the radar, but in a recent ruling, the United States District Court found in favor of Blizzard when the latter sued an outfit called Scapegaming for hosting private World of Warcraft servers for profit. Scapegaming had something like 40,000 users a day, though, so I think your buddy's basement is still safe for the time being.
