Kotaku writes: "Fifteen years ago Phillips, Sega, and 3DO were struggling to get North American consumers to accept CD-based gaming. On September 9, 1995, Sony came along and showed them how it's done, changing the face of gaming as we knew it".
Indeed. People talk trash now, but Sony's lead the way for umpteen years with new kid on the block copying everything it did. Pay your respect, gamers. If you agree, say happy birthday, Sony.
This would make more sense if you were talking about Nintendo.
Disagree. The only thing that Nintendo has lead in; within the lifetime of playstation, is motion controls. Gamecube failed, and as awesome as the N64 was(miles better than the Wii will ever be), it was still playing in the past with it's cartriges.
@PS3Freak The Gamecube made more money than the PS2. Proof below http://neogaf.net/forum/sho... Also the Gamecube had the highest rated game last gen In Metroid Prime. Proof http://www.gamerankings.com... EDIT: That the problem with fanboys. They disagree with hard facts.
Your above link proves nothing. You seem to forget the GBA existed.
PlayerX So what you are saying is? You prefer a company to make a large profit on the back of you, rather than small or no profit. "That the problem with fanboys." They don't make sense. I think everyone knows how important the PS2 was for gaming. @Below What's wrong is you brought up the Nintendo, why? Have you an agenda? Just strange that you bring up the Nintendo in a 15 years of PlayStation article.
@zootang What is wrong with you people. I never once said anything bad about any Sony console and just because I didn't say "SONY IS DA KINGZ OF GAMING" You people think that is hate. Also I never once said I care if a company makes profit or not. I was just showing that the Gamecube was not a failure in business or games. @zootang Read the 3rd comment. I didn't bring up the Gamecube. @Below Because what he said didn't make sense
I replaced Gamecube with Nintendo, big deal. You still don't make sense. If you can make sense of what you are saying. Then I don't think I want to understand your sense of mind. Again, why bring up Nintendo in the first place?
"The Gamecube made more money than the PS2. Proof below" You posted the companies' overall profits, not their individual console sales earnings/profits. Nintendo's numbers are for Gcube, GBA, waning GBC sales, and beginning DS sales. While Sony's numbers are for waning Ps1 sales, Ps2 sales, TV sales, computer sales, electronic sales, walkman sales etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.
Times have changed
And you're still trolling. I see that hasn't changed.
How is having the best quality console and the most quality exclusives leading from the rear? Oh wait you mean that really important thing to gamers, sales.
I'm starting to think all these 360 fanboys are MS Stockholders. They seem so interested in sales and don't seem to care about having actual games to play.
I like Nintendo but you're off topic. Please take your hate elsewhere. EDIT: Then why mention Nintendo?
Lol I never said anything hateful. EDIT: Lol I see what you mean. To go against any fanboy statement on this site is hate. What he said about Sony would make more sense if talking about Nintendo.
Dude, why are you mentioning Nintendo in a Sony related article. We're recognizing that the Playstation brand brought fun years of gaming for everyone that can appreciate their success. Nintendo will always be the best, no doubt because without them, I wouldn't have started gaming. But c'mon, acknowledge that Sony had an impact on gaming as well.
The Gamecube made more money than the PS2. OMG i can't believe someone really said that how can a system that sold 20 million make more $ than a system that sold over 120 million plz someone tell me plz
All I know is i have had great gaming experiences with both PS1&2, as well as great gamimng experiences with PS3. This is all that matters to me so all the haters can continue to hate only my opinion matters not there's. Same goes for all systems I own.
Happy Birthday Sony, you'll be the king until someone dethrones you. 12
150mil and so far the wii ain't no where near those number, maybe closer to it compare to the other consoles but not compare to the ps1 or ps2. the wii didn't reach 100mill yet. as far as games go, Sony still have the better games, and increasing.
I will always be with PlayStation.
Kotaku? Pro-PlayStation article? No... No way. *vomits*
lol, I still dont understand what people have against kotaku.
It's a blog but presented as a news source.
The PlayStation brand hasn't dominated anything since the release of the PS3. It's total Wii domination, with Xbox and PlayStation fighting back and forth for 2nd place.
What does that have to do with the title and the article itself? Explain. Everyone knows the Wii is in "1st Place" in this so-called console war. We don't need a reiteration.
Explained: The article and the title refers to Sony's monetary domination over the last 15 years.
PS1 ruined many discs for me. And the Playstation 2 broke my GTA discs ):
That was a long time ago when disc technology in consoles was not perfected. That shouldn't happen anymore now that discs have been around so long; but yet it does happen to a certain, unnamed console.
the 360 scratches disks since it's true.
PS3 - owned by Wii PSP - owned by DS Title makes sense. The only ones who believe it's dominating are Sony cultists.
Please watch this space for someone saying "Sony still dominates in quality, sales don't matter" lol. I bet you that comment will be made.
Sales? Then yes thats true but what does it have to do with the article?
Uhh...the article is about the last fifteen years of the Playstation. So if you want to get technical (and from a sales perspective)... PS2 - owned every other home console (and most handhelds) in the history of gaming.
those casuals just dont give a sht about the PS3
Pay Respects to Nintendo, Then Sony and of course Microsoft all have been innovative and changed the face og gaming in some way or form Haters Stop Hatin
I think this is a Dora the explora moment. http://www.youtube.com/watc...
early on i played sega saturn alot more than psx. need for speed very first game in franchise period on ps1 sucked compared to saturn version.
then you were one of the few you know... lol
You didn't play the Saturn? Oh dear.... http://www.youtube.com/watc... Hide! Segata Sansiro will find you!
duke nukem 3d had online play on with the netlink shit sega sold for saturn, psx didnt.
I choose the N64 over the PS 1. That did not turn out well Xbox over PS2... sad really PS3 now, if the experience back in 1995 was anything like the one im having now with my PS3, then i trully missed out on what was a great era to be a gamer.
Kotaku: 5 years of crappy gaming news. :-)
I went from a Super Nintendo, to a PS1, then and Xbox and now a PS3, 360 and a gaming PC Of all them, PS3 won the generation for me. Pure quality, with the newest tech, graphics and some of the best games But Im a PS3 fanboy, not a PLAYSTATION fanboy. If MS or Nintendo manage to pull something better out next year, Im switching sides. Its my money, Ill spend it on whats best ... But looking at the quality of the PS3 vs the other two consoles right now, I'd say PS4 will be the same better quality deal
HOW COULD YOU MISS THE PS2?!?!?!?!?! YOU MAKE ME SICK SIR...
says the website who takes the most shit about dem
Joketaku will be back in dissing Sony again just u wait but anyway congratz Sony for the best 15yrs of my gaming experience. This game industry would be boring to me if u were to leave or not existence anymore.
I remember I wanted my mum to get me a Sega Saturn for my 16th Birthday and to celebrate the end of my GCSE's which was in July. I was so psyched after seeing Virtua fighter in the arcades and I really wanted to play a Clockwork Knight (Who remembers that? lol) and I was a HUGE Sega fan! Had every Sega console (yep even the Gamegear MegaCD AND 32X!) But one evening after school, I saw something which made my jaw hit the floor. It was some old videogame show in the UK all I remember was one of it's hosts was a woman with blonde/white spiky hair who's name I think was Violet (Bubbles for person who remembers the name of the show!) and it was talking about a new console about to hit Japan with games like Ridge Racer and Battle Arena Toshinden. I saw Battle Arena and told myself..."I NEED THIS GAME SYSTEM!" My mum unfortunately had never heard of the Playstation so I knew I'd probably still get a Saturn. I swore to myself I would get a job to get one and then I saw an ad for Tekken...well that was it, it came an obsession! I even went as far as actually buying Tekken before I even had the console lol!! I've still got it and it was one of the VERY first batches so it actually came in a cardboard sleeve rather than a plastic case! Well, luck would bloody have it, my mum got paid late so I didn't get the Saturn for my birthday but some cool dad told my mum to wait for this system to drop in the UK called 'The Playstation' as he thinks it would be the next big thing and she listened and got me it when it came out! I always remember her apologising when I opened it saying "I knew you wanted the Sega, but my work colleague recommended this instead" Whoever you were man...I owe you a vodka or beer!
