Duke Nukem Forever Box Art Pays Homage to Halcyon Days

Following the surprise announcement of Duke Nukem Forever’s 2011 release date this past weekend, 2K Games has released a provisional box art featuring some instantly recognisable box art. Duke Nukem is a fondly remembered videogame series – in particular, the First-Person Shooter (FPS) episode, Duke Nukem 3D – and for any twenty-something gamer worth their salt, the box art will call upon fond memories of kicking ass and chewing bubblegum.

There is no way that's the box art!

RIPSKATEDESTROY2654d ago

it is the box art. if youre gonna sell a game like dukenukem, do you think something else would really be a better boxart than the official brand????

I'd buy it looking like that anyways. No other way i'd imagine it. You look at that sign on a video game and any true fan immediately thinks Duke Nukem.

You've missed my point exactly, tell you what, when the game comes out and this isn't the box art we'll both know who's right. The box will have Duke on and the wording DUKE NUKEM FOREVER in the cool font.

The problem with selling a game like Duke Nukem with just the official brand is that... well... Duke Nukem has not been in the videogame spotlight since 1997. Sure we get Duke Nukem games on the iPhone and Xbox Live Arcade, but that's simply not enough for them to be able to sell Duke Nukem Forever with JUST the logo.

Not enough people know what the logo means. More people will probably think it's a new Fallout game, nowadays. :\

I agree. This won't be the final box art

I thought the boxart was him with his back to us with the black and white Scarface background? I mean, unless you are a fan, a random person won't know what the game is. I assume it's just placeholder though.

In before the following...

-"DNF Boxart does little to bring new fans to the series"
-"Too little too late"
-"This game will never live up to the hype"
-Insert tired Duke Nukem hater clichés lines.

OT: Perfect Boxart for DNF.

kevco332654d ago

I'm not sure if this was ever actually intended (would be quite clever if it was!) but whenever I see people putting "DNF" instead of "Duke Nukem Forever", all I can think of is the racing version of the acronym...

"Did not finish".

CimmerianDrake2654d ago

Maybe it's because I'm not a fan of racing, but I've never heard that acronym before.

I wouldn't mind if they kept the logo but I was expecting a more badass look like Duke Nukem games of the past. The one boxart I always liked was Doom with the space marine fending off the bad guys with 2 guns blazing. I would put the duke standing on a pile dead pic cops with a war torn American flag whose pole would be going thru one of the pigs skull, all while having his signature smirk and maybe a desert eagle in the other hand still letting off a few shots
