A new Patent from Sony shows a full Body Move Control Device .. looks crazy
Lol. What's that?! :D
The right way to do full body motion control. But the figure's kinda funny. :D
you're not gonna see me doing that in the living room. Not even with the curtains closed.
Not sure about the aftermath when you hit the ground.
Sony moves in for the kill! Oh and that illustration clearly shows just how out of touch Sony really is with it's user base if they think we're able to do scorpion kicks. A more realistic illustration would show some fat dude sitting on the sofa with a bowl of cheesy nachos, 2 liter bottle of soda complete with wife beater in his whitey tides. :D R2D2 Bicycle kick...pfft! Lame. No. It's called the Scorpion kick...more manly.
Sony, with move and even this patent are taking tech from motion capture and utilizing it for games. mo cap is a proven, solid way to translate body movements perfectly into a computer. if those little balls weren't needed then they wouldn't go through all the trouble and do something similar to what kinect does...except it doesn't work well enough (or at all) for quality mo cap (computer) tracking. On that note though, I don't think many people want to jump around like idiots to play a game, I definitely don't, I generally want to sit down in a comfortable chair and play, standing is fine every once in a while but running in place and hopping like a rabbit on crack is not something I want to do after a hard day of work. the concept is solid, just not practical.
This is good for Sony and all, but who the hell is going to do some crazy sh!t like that in front of the TV? Guess FIFA and PES lovers will try it, but hell, in other genres @[email protected]
Nah...It's definitely a bicycle kick. The Scorpion's face down, with feet flicked over your back.
That's not a Scorpion kick, it's a bicycle kick. I'm a 'Merican and even I know the difference. http://www.youtube.com/watc... Edit: I'm crazy late, I guess I had this article sitting on my computer for an hour.
This could just be sony's way of blocking microsoft's attempt at coming up with an idea that similar, since it is common knowledge that the balls on the move controller are what makes it as accurate as it is.
theres to many damn german articles im actually starting to understand german
site not working for me
if you were to go that far in a videogame... get off your ass and go play soccer with your friends. seriously
Dammit i hate these foreign website articles, even with google translate, it's still hard to read.
@ Longrod_Von_Hugendon The image is a bicycle (or overhead) kick. The Scorpion kick is what Rene Higuita did and looks nothing like that.
looks like he slipped on a banana.
that truly deserves a bubble.
Yeah I can't see many people using the scorpion kick anyway.
hahah thats never gonna happen gamers are too lazy.
Damn right, I'm lazy as fuck!
thank god your honest
Are those Move controllers attached to your hands and feet? lol wow. Looks like Sony is playing it safe incase Kinect becomes the new standard. Hope this is true just to see how the Sony fanboys switch on full-body motion control, and say its the best thing ever lol. And another thing, didn't Sony say buttons are needed, I can't imagine the chaos that would occur if this comes true, it would be a bigger facepalm than a FF7 Remake or GTA5 being a 360 exclusive. @Shadow Flare I know all patents don't come to light. But don't you find it funny after ALL Sony has said about Kinect, that they even make the patent in the first play? Why do it if you aren't considering it? And why now? I'll tell you why cause they know if Kinect takes off the 360 will be getting a ton of exclusive games and they will need to make Move do the same. The damage control will be immense if this happens lol.
In case your unfamiliar with how patents work, companies apply for patents for just about anything and everything. Hundreds of patents are submitted. This one is pretty dumb, but they just apply for the patent anyway By the way, why would we switch to full body motion control all of a sudden? We had it already with the eyetoy. And it sucked. In fact it looked a lot like the games kinetc is bringing out --- Omega From what the others are saying below, this patent came out before move was even announced anyway. I mean you're with the same bunch of people who claim move is a wii ripoff. But there are videos from 2004 with Dr. Marks demonstrating a Move prototype. So.....how do you spin that? The research and development team test everythjng. You say that this patent is in direct response to kinect, but isn't kinetc in direct response to the eyetoy technology?? Did you ever consider Sony may just be furthering their ideas with their own eyetoy? They did full body motion gaming before the xbox you know. You act like the kinetc was the first to do it. And if this patent really is from before moves announcement, then it's obviously just patents for prototypes they had furthering the eyetoy tech.
@shadow dont try and reason with it. Its filed purely to block MS trying to add it later to try and save kinect just like object scanning.
I know Anyway, I just wanted to add that you can tell this is an old patent because the picture shows an old fat ps3. They don't even make those anymore. And the controllers attached to the person aren't even move controllers. They look like some old prototypes K, I'm finished with it
Dr Marks is testing motion-controls applied in gaming since 2000 with the 3dv cam, the camera made by the company MS bought for kinect, in 2004 Sony patented the wand, the one in those old videos, they perfected the wand = PlayStation Move
It would only allow games that doesn't need buttons... haha, kinect new standard? Or you implying that the game industry will dig his own grave?
Why can't Kinect become the new standard? The Wii did it and PS3/360 fanboys never saw it coming. "I know all patents don't come to light. But don't you find it funny after ALL Sony has said about Kinect, that they even make the patent in the first play? Why do it if you aren't considering it? And why now? I'll tell you why cause they know if Kinect takes off the 360 will be getting a ton of exclusive games and they will need to make Move do the same." I agree..why would Sony even CONSIDER this taking into account all the trash K.B. has said about Kinect. Admit it, they trying to cover their ass in case Kinect takes off. And its a smart thing to do. I don't blame Sony for doing it one bit.
Kinect will never be the new standard because it can only do stationary and rail based games.. Show us how it can be used to play games that gamers play like FPS, TPS, RTS, Sandbox. If rail based games become the "Standard" then I am out.. It's funny because you will NEVER (quote me on this) EVER see a sandbox game for Kinect. It can't work by any means. You will only see the same types of games recycled over and over where you stand in one spot and preform gestures. "I expect MS to offer a wand with Kinect to get some deeper gameplay." MS going back on their "you are the controller" would be an epic admit to fail. I can see it happening too because there is only so much you can do without buttons and once you start to see the same games over and over they will have to do something.
But you add Kinect with a wand and you have something. I expect MS to offer a wand with Kinect to get some deeper gameplay. But I don't see it become a standard with all it's limitations in space (six feel of space between player and camera) and latency. At least not yet.
When did the Wii become the new standard? I only ask b/c most, if not all, GOTY titles are 360/PS3/PC games.
a new standards gotta......you know......work. I cant see something without buttons and with its limitations being 'the new standard' Thats just being overly optimistic or naive at best
Move is just about ready to release, the reviews are good. I can't wait till after this holiday season. Kinect will sell well over the holidays because it is hyped, new and casuals will "imagine the possibilities" but once they come to the realization that Kinect doesn't work the way they "imagined" it will be garbage.
@RememberThe357 so you saying Kinect(2) is gona use Wand? lol eyetoy = kinect pseye + move = kinect with wand hhmmm.....
"Kinect will never be the new standard because it can only do stationary and rail based games" Kinect just like dream eye and eye toy will one day be the norm. VR gaming will one day be here and at that time these types of gadgets will come to light.
The WII is the standard for motion controlling, not for the entire game-industry. Kinect can't perform all sort of games...so it can't become THE standard...
This is why MS will have to push hard with their typical deceptive marketing. Once the holidays are over we can expect to see a multitude of used Kinect hardware and software dumped back into the retail system as people discover how the device actually fails to deliver. MS is aware of this and the fact word of mouth will spread like wildfire. The fact is they will never recoup their investment and this is why Robbie Bach was fired.
"Kinect just like dream eye and eye toy will one day be the norm. VR gaming will one day be here and at that time these types of gadgets will come to light." But not just kinect and dream eye and eye toy alone...there will have to be other peripherals in accompanyment therefore a simple camera will never be the norm for the video games we have come to know and love.
"Kinect just like dream eye and eye toy will one day be the norm. VR gaming will one day be here and at that time these types of gadgets will come to light." Not a chance in hell that will happen.
lol at Morganfell and his FUD. You better be getting paid by Sony son, you're working way too hard otherwise.
:) Just to add, not sure why Sony or its fans bothers you so much, but they clearly do. This patent was from 2009 anyway.
if they went with a design like that it would be a attachment contianing a soft ball filled with gyros and acceleromiters and light for each foot then the standard move in hand so youd still have buttons
No problem with full body motion control. Eyetoy does it, and Kinect do it, but neither of them do it well. Eyetoy can't track within 3D, Kinect can't track accurately within 3D, and comes with a lot of latency. Anyway, this is an old patent from 2009.
"Incase Kinect becomes the new standard." You're HAlarious! And I used my last bubble to tell you this. :P
I am fully aware that accelerometers, gyroscopes and magnetometers were not invented by Sony, those things are established tech many years old used in many industries, just like the balls they use in motion capture and the use of multiple microphones to get positional data. I do have a peeve though, all the morons out there that think the ball on top of the move controller is somehow stupid and is likened to a sex toy. If the motion capture balls are essential for the movie, game and television industry to capture precise, natural movement, why is it scoffed at when used on a gaming controller that captures movement accurately unlike it's competition?
Why should you worry about what other people think? Ignore them and have fun with motion control. You are not going to look good playing any of the motion controls anyhow. Case in point: Kinect: http://www.youtube.com/watc... Wii: http://www.youtube.com/watc... With that said, I don't think Sony is helping themselves by using the pink colored sphere instead of the multitude of other colors available. Besides in motion capture, the ball isn't attached to a rounded "shaft" that makes it look like said sex toy.
Old news with old pics. Naturally an old troll would comment on it. The date on the picture is October 2008. Facepalm indeed. The damage control is clearly coming from you, but I'm sure you don't even realize it. As for the buttons comment, the controllers (clearly an old design) appear to have them. Even the ones on the feet. More fail for you. All this shows is that Sony was thinking about full body control and then figured out that no one wants to do what is shown in the picture. It doesn't change the fact that Kinect has almost no potential to be used with anything other than casual games.
Boy, MOVE is not extended the PS3 life it's just a feature. Kinect is a life extender for the X-BOX 360, and that's the differnt question :)
"Looks like Sony is playing it safe incase Kinect becomes the new standard. Hope this is true just to see how the Sony fanboys switch on full-body motion control, and say its the best thing ever lol." If they do its probably because they actually have real games to play instead of gimmicky shovelware crap like that "other" console is showing.
@omega4 this is a fake or are you too dumb to realise that, they have already taken the pictures off the site. and btw the eyetoy can do full body motion control already check out Kung fu live if you don't believe me.
SUCK MI DICK THENGO JACK U SELF IN THE CORNER AND BRING SOMTING WORT READIND T THE TABLE U LITTER BILL GATE COCK SUCKER
Umm... isn't that exactly what the Eye-Toy was, and the PlayStation Eye is? Having the technology is one thing, packaging and marketing it correctly is another.
. . .we'd seen this before E3 2009.
this patent was shown even before we ever seen the move.
Move controllers on your feet? I think not. Hopefully this doesn't make it to production.
for reals? sounds awful. And Im pro sony.
As if anybody was buying Sony's confidence in the current Move tech. Hope that works out for them. Is it coincidence these figures come out hours before MSFT announces new Kinect secrets at PAX?
Kinect's secret is that Microsoft are adding a wand to it so it can actually be used for games. And these images show the same tech being applied to other body parts, so that's actually expansion of the current tech, so, you know, what the hell are you talking about?
http://www.eurogamer.net/ar... "As if anybody was buying Sony's confidence in the current Move tech. Hope that works out for them. Is it coincidence these figures come out hours before MSFT announces new Kinect secrets at PAX?" It seems DF are buying into the confidence. You like DF don't you? when they do their comparisons? You need to get a grip on reality sunshine. Whole new world out there, embrace it.
Whats this new Kinect secrets at PAX he is talking about? or is he just trolling again.
Omega4 wow ive not seen you for at least hmm les than 48hrs in a post. then again couldnt be assed to track you down. you put british people to shame. stop nagging nit picking about move. and go bloody buy one. the way you acting im thinking you actualy like move really and the ps3. but you dont have one cos you still got a Wii ?? no ds am i close. go troll away please.
Sony probably thought better not to make the Playstation move full body because it can be a gaming liability if gamers were to get injured doing moves like that in that figure
Omega that is crap. Why would Sony make a full body motion control device after working on the Move for ten years and rejecting the tech? If any thing it probably will be an upgrade for the PSEye and Move controller if anything. Kinect defenders better hope this isn't true though. If Sony can track full motion and add the augmented reality plus the force feedback of Move, Kinect will be officially obsolete. But now that I think of it, this does loik familiar. This is old. I remember talking to or hearing some one talking about devices on your feet a long time ago
http://www.youtube.com/watc... theres your answer. what you see today is called perfecting the tech
IS it me or the figure just shows Eyetoy??
Sony isn't stupid like "you know who" if they do decide to make a full body motion controller i'm 100% sure it's going to work perfectly for the intended purpose (which could be as fitness device like Wii Fit). dont confuse the PRO's with the AMATURES. ;)
(sry bad eng) Sonys next step shuld be Virtual Reality. IMO Playstation move + VR = Win? .. No? I know 3d tv is makin its big step now and sony is on the waggon, but wouldent it have been a better way to look at VR? A question to all you readers to: WHEN do YOU PEOPLE think that VR will be makin its step in gaming 4 real once more? Will it be talked about right after the 3d tv (without glasses (that people say will be out in 2 years)) Or are we lookin far into the future before that? (10 years+ ? ) People tell me what you think :D And on topic: IMO i dont know what full boddy motion is good 4? What games can you realy use full boddy motion in if you think about it? IMO These are the only game i can think about: Football = Check Driving = Check Fighting = Check But what about: Shooting = NO( How to move forward ? ) Just look at kinect. I am nott trying to flame or anything, This is just my IMO. But i wont stand and walk on the same spot in my livingroon to walk forward. Adventure = NO. (Same as above) The move wands already do the shield and sword... no? But what? You have to walk on place to move forward?
move has a joystick
