David 'Vahn' Vonderhaar announced the preliminary composition of playlists available in Call of Duty: Black Ops.
I'm loving it. BTW, Split-screen online MP was CONFIRMED. This has become day one for me. I love that they are supporting barebones playlists. Hope they add barebones S&D too My only complaint: where is core S&D?
Aww, your're right. Vahn forgot to add that to his main post at the CoD forums but added it later. Fixed! ;)
As much as I hate MW2 I went back and played it a few weeks ago and tried out the barebones playlist, and I actually enjoyed it....for a minute. After a few games I started to realize why I quit (one of the reasons being the killstreaks) but also because of the stupid perks. I wish they made a real barebones playlist with no killstreaks or perks. I do like what I'm hearing about with Black Ops though, Treyarch seems to really be pushing this title for change and in a good way. @The_Claw - I know dedicated servers are confirmed for PC. For consoles though, I think there is dedicated servers, but not 100% sure so don't quote me on that.
COD use Listen Servers, no P2P,Only P2P game in the COD series was COD3 MP Director at Treyarch Studios: http://callofduty.com/board... Hi, Please read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... Call of Duty 1, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty: Big Red One, Modern Warfare 1, World at War, Modern Warfare 2, and Black Ops are all Listen Servers (for consoles) and not Peer to Peer topologies. The only truly peer to peer game (using a literal definition) in the franchise was Call of Duty 3. This can never be "fixed" because of this little thing called the "Internet" and how it works. What we can and try to do is: -minimize the upstream bandwidth required to play -use the best networking prediction we can -continue to have the Local Search only option -improve the algorithm for how we choose the host -continue to work with Microsoft on how they do Matchmaking ...among other things. The common assumption that Dedicated Servers (instead of Listen Servers) will somehow solve all problems is not accurate. It's grossly over-stated as a cure-all. It causes new and different problems. What many people don't understand is that (on the 360) you have to bounce and authentic all "Live" traffic through what is known as the xLSP gateway/proxy. In the simplest sense, it's a type of Virtual Private Network (VPN) between us and Microsoft. All of the World at War stat servers (for example) run behind one. So does the infastucture telling you how may players are online; or the machine you get the Playlist from (etc, etc). Reporting stats to a database server is one thing; sending game traffic through the gateway/proxy is an entirely different beast which will increase latency. xLSP has policy guidelines and restrictions. The bottom line is that it both lets us offer a lot of stuff to you that Live itself doesn't offer (or has made generic to work with "any game" whereas we want to do something that works awesome for Call of Duty), but it doesn't exactly give us complete flexibility to do whatever we want either. In Summary: The game is not Peer to Peer. Listen Servers, Dedicated Servers, and Peer to Peer games can never be truly "fixed." They can just be designed and developed to work better on the Internet. Dedicated servers (for consoles) are not a cure-all. We are MP developers and gamers, thus aware of what it is like to play MP games on the Internet. Including this one. David 'Vahn' Vonderhaar
No, COD on consoles uses Peer-to-peer hosting. The only things the servers are used for are matchmaking and storing statistics.
does anyone know if it will be p2p or dedicated servers? this is my last concern with the game, everything else is looking superb. edit: ugh, that sucks. i just dont get it. all the money activision makes and they cant even give us servers.
Matchmaking P2P for consoles, DS for PC, I'm 90% sure
Dedicated servers voor PC, 100% sure :) And as always p2p for console
It's because some of the PC players(like most clan leaders) eventually have to pay for their own servers. If they said you have to pay 15 bucks a month to play on dedicated servers on the consoles, it would cause a riot and nobody would buy it.
Well I'll be dammed Classic TDM, that should make a lot of people happy. Good to see Search and Destroy is back, that's easily my favorite game mode, much more tactical, and fun.
snd is back? it never went away...
I know that, but there wasn't any previous indication that it was returning again, it's just nice to know my favorite game mode is staying put.
I like this playlist more than MW2. Although I with they could have a new game mode called Objective Ground War 18 players search and destroy capture the flag(the world at war CTF not the crappy MW2 CTF)
Sooo... Not much different to Modern Warfare 2 then, apart from the new wager matches. Cool.
I wish they would make a play list where u cn only use handguns and disable everything else anyone else agree?
They did, it's called One in the Chamber, only handguns and knives, and you only get one bullet each.
Of cource they get rid of War, one of the best game modes they ever created.
Prestige playlists? Wow finally a half-decent incentive to prestige. Pretty impressed with this overall, absolutely loving the Wager Match Playlists I think they are a master stroke by Treyarch but shame there is no Old School, but you can't have everything. :)
Where is regular/original team tactical? Like am I the only one that missed that gametype from Cod4: Mw? It was my favorite and they ruined it by only having 3rd person and now they got rid of it all together
they added the 4v4 regular team tactical in mw2. i was hoping it would be in black ops, i just dont get how they cant keep track of all the simple things people will want.
No War? WOW that sucks.
but classic s&d would be cooler, s&d on cod4 was awesome not so good on [email protected] and ridiculously shit on mw2, maybe cos the map designs are some of the worst ever invented
i am liking all the barebones playlists epic!
