Future of FPS: Environments

3D gaming has been around for over a decade now, and videogames now have Hollywood budgets. Games like Far Cry, Fable, and others have shown that the sky is really the limit to what can be done with environments in games these days, although if you look at the flight simulation in the military FPS Armed Assault, even the sky is not much of a limitation. Practically anything that can be imagined can be done, so why are we still so often wandering around narrow hallways of generic military installations and science labs so much of the time?
