Play-mag: "We’re fast approaching the 15th anniversary of the original PlayStation’s release, so we thought it only right to catch up on the characters of the mid-90s and find out: Where Are They Now?"
I weap for Crash and Spyro. They were my childhood buddies... I has a sad :(
Didn't Spyro appear on the Nintendo handhelds?
Crash did as well.
I do like sackboy as Sony mascot
Sony has to many mascots...Ratchet and Clank, Sly, Jack and Dexter, Sackboy, Kratos Apes....
that's because they never had any mascots . Sega and nintendo do or did .
Nintendo has Mario, Link, Samus. And Microsoft has well... Master Chief, ...and Marcus Fenix? Sony started with Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. Those franchises have since gone multiplatform and are no longer associated with the PS brand as much. There's Solid Snake too I guess. With PS2 came Ratchet & Clank, Kratos, Jak & Daxter. And since then the brand has gained so many flagship series that it's hard to pin down a single mascot. Right now I would say it's between Nathan Drake, Kratos, Ratchet & Clank, Sackboy, Snake. Just goes to show how far PlayStation has come as a brand.
Thats the plan?
. I could assume new "mascots" / characters = new IPs, which is great, in my opinion.
better than recycling the same old characters *cough mario & master chief cough*
there waitin for the right time to reclaim there throwns
He is family friendly,.. and can be a cute Kratos,.. just my 2 cents,.. And LBP is a game I still f*** around in,.. and I am an old ass man (27), playing Demon's Souls mostly..LBP is just so damn fun,.. IT DISARMS YOU,.. and you feel like ,..stupid smile on my old ass face like I am 5,..even drugs can't do that,..and that is so cool,.. please keyboard and mouse support for creator in LBP2,.. I would spend months in it,..
disagreed by accident
The term mascot is obviously abused here and in the article . None of those were mascots . Right after crash bandicoot's initial success , and with the constant rise of the psx , journalists tried to assume Crash would be it , since it was a tendancy shared by Nintendo with mario , and Sega with Sonic . I remember that status denied quite quickly by sony itself . They were aimed at young adults back then , and didnt want their brand tied to a furry or cutesy creatures (while obviously still producing those games , and those characters being great) , nor any unique franchise ... they were aiming for the "we provide you everything , every genre angle" ... and so did microsoft latter . Mascot branding is a concept from the 16 bits era , that only keeps working well for sega and nintendo
Interesting, and it makes sense. Dont have your console tied down to any one thing. Makes it easier to adapt to changing markets. Like from last gen to this one, FPS became more popular so sony was able to churn them out from first party without displeasing fans. But i cant help but wonder what it would be like if sony kept a "mascot" franchise around. Gran turismo is their mascot franchise if anything.
Either Kevin Butler or Sackboy :D And just for once, can fanboys stay away? Just this once? Stop bothering us normal folks.
rachet and clank to be mascots last generation and the current gen. last gen i beleived jak and daxter to be the mascots, ps1 gen i beleived crash bandicoot. to be the mascot
Kevin Butler BOOM
Kevin Butler! AHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHHAHAH
xbox has omega4 which sum up a lot of their fanbase.
The PS brand doesn't have a mascot. They have a freaking family!
Just out of interest, has ANYONE actually read the words in this article? Nobody seems to have picked up that it's a 'where are they now?' like you get for bands, or ex-sportspeople, and that it's a joke. You all seem to think it's a dissection of the situation surrounding why there are no mascots this generation. It isn't. It's just a daft joke article.
