It's no secret that Torchlight was developed by several key members from the team that developed the original Diablo, and the influence definitely shows: loot galore, health potions, Town Portal & Identify scrolls everywhere. Not that these are unique to the dungeon crawling world at this point, but the way into the presentation of Torchlight was obviously paved by Diablo.
