Realism: Yay or Nay?

Last week I touched upon the notion of games being a form of 'escapism'. However, lately, I have noticed many games attempting to emulate reality and make certain titles appear to be more realistic for authentic purposes. Naturally, it does not take the average gamer long to identify titles which appeal to a more fantasy style approach as opposed to achieving the utmost level of realism. Interesting that already people are sub-dividing realism into different categories. Looking forward to seeing other responses!

Ah why cant this get 10 more degrees to approve it?

You have a point about dividing up realism. For me there are several aspects to a game that make it realistic. Graphics, gameplay and sound. Sound should always sound real with todays technology. I dont think many will argue that.

Some say graphics looking realistic doesnt matter to them. Too much realism in graphics could be a bad thing though for violent games like Mortal Kombat.

Realistic physics are the "nay" for me because they can hinder controls in games likw GTA or other driving games and it makes the game less fun as a result.

Of course yay and nay.
Yay for me - KZ3, Golf etc.
Nay for my kids - Lego, LBP, EyePet, R&C etc.

Noooooo ... stop to realism it's actually killing the game industry.
For instance, I Will always prefer Halo 3 graphisms to something like killzone 2... they really created a fabulous atmosphere in the first one
