Last week I touched upon the notion of games being a form of 'escapism'. However, lately, I have noticed many games attempting to emulate reality and make certain titles appear to be more realistic for authentic purposes. Naturally, it does not take the average gamer long to identify titles which appeal to a more fantasy style approach as opposed to achieving the utmost level of realism. Both endeavours should be applauded for their respective efforts, but what about the community and their desires? Does the very idea of 'escapism' stand as a tour de force in computer gaming? Is 'escapism' the fundamentally pivotal characteristic which, if not attained, results in a piece of mediocre or poor software?
