QuakeCon 06: John Carmack Keynote Address Video

John Carmack's annual QuakeCon keynote address. It was comparable to his down to earth speech presented last year when he focused on next generation console gaming. This year, he focused on multi-processor support in games. This video includes 1 hour and 20 minutes of Carmack's address. Sit back and relax and prepare to be blown away by the genius mind of the QUAKE creator himself, John Carmack.

Karmack is lazy and there isn't another way to put it. It's obvious why he choose's to say the things he's does. He wants the quick cash route and that's (like EA) is through ports. We as gamers (both 360, PS3, and PC fans) should be angry at any developer who chooses the "easy" way to our hard earned cash.

If the statement "karmack is a god" is true than what "godly game" has he made? More importantly what "godly" games has he made for consoles (not ported)? The jury is out on this guy, whether he choose's to develope for PS3 I personally could careless as I'm not interested in any game he has ever made. (even if I was I would buy it on PC anyways)

The real question is do any of you think John Carmack will have anything to do with who wins this Generation of consoles? (he hasn't been a factor in any other generation)

Carmack has wiser things to say about the consoles then Barbie Ken has to say about the PS3, that's one thing that's sure!

And his comments on the whole multiple cores, and other choices optimal for gaming are right. If you don't want to hear it, then don't post it. If you want to sum up this whole large video, watch the next one. Summarized he claims:

MS has made the right optimal choices for to get the best results on games, Sony seems they didn't. Cell has peak power, but peak power isn't overal sustainable power. As the peak power of my home surround sound 5.1 is huge, but normal output is a lot lower. It's all marketing power specs but does it mean anything?

I think I heard powerspecs on PS2 also, but it was the weaker console compared to Dreamcast or XBOX and Gamecube could do about the same. The same story with PS3 again. Sony is and will always be overpromising and underdelivering.

Karmack is overrated, plain and simple. How lazy was Quake 4? I'm not saying all his games have been crap, but he prefers PC and it shows with his console effort.

Raven Software did, and Carmack is nowhere in the credits. Yes he does like the PC. Where do you think the FPS genre originally came from? The PC. And who put it there? id Software with the help of John Carmack. Truth is, a console is an extremely specialized PC. That specialization is games. id Software makes games. There is no reason an excellent PC game can't be an excellent console game as well just because it's a port.

being a fan of any system.it has to do with a man that hasnt been a factor in ANY console since atari.i give him props for helping to push a certain gengre of gaming, but that doesn't make him great.what racing, fighting, sports, puzzle, rpg, etc. has this man made beyond the fps?for pc?for console?nothing.absolutely nothing.and to take his word as stone when he refuses to go beyond the same techniques he's used to for consoles is a shame.also,i wouldn't call every awsome game that has come out from the beginning to 360 and beyond"weird japanese games".use your logic.ps3 is coming to america.those gamers who will play it maybe want american games on it besides japanese.

game to back up his claims?or is he going on what he knows about that's familiar to him.name one atari game.name one dreamcast game. name one gamecube game he made.yes it costs money, but to not try means you already failed.take for example:bungie made ONI which sucked in my opinion.but then they turned around and made HALO.which was a vast improvement.it's not about peak performance.it's about taking hardware, squeezing it,and making software from it.any hardware.
