Criterion : 'Hey EA can we make NFS Split Second plx???'
EA : 'NEIN!!!!! JETZ RRRRRAUS!!!!!!!! SCHNELLL!!!!'

EA probably felt the game wouldnt sell very well with the state of the market at the time and what was trending. Strange however that the game came back up after 8 years. I wonder if that was criterion or EA's doing

I mean if you look at the games they have made (Burnout Series and Black), none of them were bad, and since they were such a new company back then, EA didn't want to risk their money in such a new company. Well 8 years later, EA had drastically went downhill with the Need For Speed Series with the exception of Need For Speed: Most Wanted and Need For Speed: SHIFT, and I guess they took back their words and let Criterion back on and help out the dead series.

New company back then ??

They already worked on stuff like their renderware engine , redline racer (96) and they were even one of the first to dev a game compatible direct 3d and 3dfx .

They were a well established dev

Games getting canned. Developers walk away. Nothing new.

But Criterion is a good developers studio and every game they made so far I enjoyed. Especially Burnout Paradise wich is still my favorite racing game this gen. Can't wait to see what they did with NFSHP. But I hope that after it releases they will be hard at work at a Second Burnout game like Paradise.

Gamerzines is getting some pretty cool snippets of info that no one else gets i've noticed! How interesting. I wonder how NFS would be now if Criterion did make it...

Looking Back to Two of Need for Speed's Best Games - Most Wanted and Hot Pursuit

Paul writes - "EA know a good thing when they see it, and for multiple years November was Need for Speed month. In a break from the usual routine, I'm going to be looking back at two games here, released in 2005 and 2010 respectively. The earlier game is Need for Speed: Most Wanted, which has the distinction of being one of the very best in the franchise. The second game comes from 2010, and is Need for Speed Hot Pursuit; which I'll talk about just as the Remastered version of the game has hit the stores."

Hotpursuit 2 was good as well.

I completely adore this game! In fact its probably my favorite racing game. I recently dusted off my xbox 360 to play Most Wanted 2005. Still a great game, though I do not remember there being such horrible performance. Like massive frame-pacing issues. screen tearing, latency. If any game ever truly needed to be remastered, it this one for sure!

Uuuu, I loved this one. I want it.

No NFS released since Hot Pursuit (2010) has came close. The Ghost Games NFS games were just dreadful (to me they were anyway, 2015 was okay I suppose). Would love to replay this and I hope it has an update for next-gen as well.

DarkZane1304d ago (Edited 1304d ago )

I loved Most Wanted as well (on PS3, I think it released in 2012). After that, it has gone downhill, but the latest games are slowly coming back up. I loved NFS Heat, but it needs to get better before it comes back to same level as NFS Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted.

Then again, NFS Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted were likely better because they were from Criterion (in fact, those were the last 2 games from criterion in nfs series).

@DarkZane
complete agree. Most Wanted was good fun as well.

boing11304d ago

Yeah, Criterion has made two best NFS games in my opinion.

georeo1304d ago

Oh yes! They cops vs the drivers online was a blast.

LucasRuinedChildhood1304d ago

Better be 60FPS unlike the original console ports.

Sgt_Slaughter1304d ago

I would be excited but NFS is basically dead in the water at this point, a shell of its former self.
