IGN: Blue Dragon Review, Score: 7.9/10

Hironobu Sakaguchi, the man who gave us Final Fantasy, has once again had his vision brought to American audiences, only this time it comes to a Microsoft console exclusively. Sakaguchi isn't the only well-known designer to put his stamp on Blue Dragon, either. Akira Toriyama, known for his work with Dragon Ball, provided the character design. Nobuo Uematsu, whose previous credits include Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VIII, composed the music. But is this all-star cast enough to finally give Microsoft's Xbox 360 an answer to Final Fantasy? Unfortunately, it looks like the wait continues.

6.5 Presentation
The pacing and story are unlikely to be well received by the majority of the American audience.

8.0 Graphics
It looks nice but could use a lot of work to make it run smoothly.

7.0 Sound
That boss music gets seriously annoying.

7.5 Gameplay
Classic RPG gameplay with a few nice touches.

8.0 Lasting Appeal
Go ahead and try to get all of the achievements.

Basically it's a no go. The only conceivable reason someone would give it this high a score is respect for Sakaguchi after all those complaints. Wait for Lost Odyssey because I hear Eternal Sonata sucks balls too if you want a 360 JRPG.

To me it sounds like if you're a fan of classic JRPG's it's a hit. I mean the boss music in FFVII also got repetitive after a while.

"The pacing and story are unlikely to be well received by the majority of the American audience."

So they reviewed it with the american audience in mind. I know most JRPG's don't get that well received in the U.S.

I'm not saying it's a must have or anything, but if you're a fan of JRPG's it's probably worth having a closer look at. Me? Oh, I began my RPG career with Phantasy Star, Y's and Miracle Warriors on Sega Master System. Does that make me very very old??

I agree with Jenzo, traditional gameplay doesn't bother me one bit. Blue Dragon is obviously not a groundbreaking title, but still an enjoyable game for traditional JRPG fans.

By the way, TeamXbox also reviewed it today, they gave it 8.5.

Well Jenzo, considering that the game is being released on the 360, a primarily western console, they had to review it with a western mindset because not a lot of japanese buy 360s. But like you said, fans of JRPGs would probably dig this.

For people that like JRPGs it will be good for everyone else it's just another JRPG with turn based battles. I do like how bad guys are shown on the map and you just not randomly attacked every 5th step.

At least it's better then the other next-gen JRPG "Enchanted Arms"

MS should realize Sakaguchi is too old school for 2007.

I am very suprised by it failing so much.

well my friend who's a fan of jrpg's didn't really like this too much, it didn't had that feeling to it as he says...

It was just not badass!

plus Enchanted Arms weren't bad I did enjoy it lol
