This generation's best co-op games.

Ok, everyone knows that Super Mario Galaxy 2 was a triumph, losing none of its predecessor's inventiveness whilst adding a new twist in the form of co-op, but if we’re entirely truthful, we have to admit to being a little bit underwhelmed. Co-op should genuinely enrich a game, either by allowing you to share the spectacle or by adding an extra dimension to the gameplay or game mechanics. With that in mind, we at Megabits have wracked our brains and assembled our list of the ten best co-op games, the ones that, unlike SMG2, didn’t fall swiftly by the wayside. (Aegis Wing, Borderlands, Crackdown, Left 4 Dead, Lost Planet 2, PS3, Resident Evil 5, Wii, Xbox 360)

What an uncalled for attack at SMG2!

What's more glaring is the lack of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, especially considering it's one of the highest-selling and most-played co-op games in the world.

Little Big Planet was better. It did the 4 player co op/competition first and has 2.7 million user made levels,so I'm still playing it with my 6 year old.It also handles like it was designed with 4 player in mind with better camera and co op areas than Super Mario bros Wii(which I did like by the way).

Well everybody certainly has there own opinions, i personally found LBP boring compared to mario. But i also do not personally like RPG's, i just prefer playing with my reactions and instincts (more of a skill player than a thinking one). So i guess it depends on the person.

I just cannot believe super mario bros. is not on this list lol

Ive had many great nights playing 4 player co op with that game.

What about the lack of Castle Crashers!?
... it's the perfect game to ease non-gamers into gaming. My girlfriend isn't much of a gamer, but she really enjoys that game, and I enjoy it alongside with her.

Gears of War 2 was a great game, but IMO Borderlands had the better co-op experience and was pretty much built for co-op gameplay. Good list none the less, I would scrap Lost Planet 2 though.

EDIT: That's kinda odd you mention that because my GF isn't a gamer but she played Borderlands with me, and even my cousins wife hates video games but she loved playing Borderlands lol. I almost past on this game as well, but after watching a few video reviews I said screw it and pre-ordered it. I've spent countless amount of hours on Borderlands and I don't regret it at all, and the Secret Armory of General Knoxx is the best so I think you will enjoy that one.

I'm playing through Borderlands right now, with my wife of all people.
My wife, not the biggest gamer, has been hooked on Borderlands with me and it's been a blast. Before, she used to only get interested in the old, co-op dungeon crawls like Dark Alliance or Champions of Norrath. I think it was the loot that kept her coming back. Eventually she got into RE5 and Gears of War co-op because I think the story was enough to keep her interested. Now with Borderlands, I'm sure it's just a loot thing again. Not that I'm complaining. We finished our first play thru and just finished the Zombie Island of Dr. Ned last night. The Secret Armory of General Knoxx is up next!

I didn't think Borderlands was a co-op game at first, now I'm having an absolute blast. Can't believe I almost missed out on this game.

Nothing like inviting some friends to your pod and try out some new levels.

Maybe he should say best coop "On the 360" - though undoubtedly the 360 is much stronger than wii / PS3 in coop, missing out on Resistance 1/2 (better than L4D), LBP and Uncharted 2 is criminal.

Left4Dead IS the best co-op game around. why? because its the only game that REQUIRES co-op. if you dont work as a team, you will die and you will die quickly. all of the other games you arent really REQUIRED to work as a team. Borderlands is awesome, was probably my favourite game of last year and im STILL playing it to this very day - probably closing in on 100 hours co-op too, but nothing in it really needs 2 players. its just like youre playing the single player campaign but with another person with you. thats great, and i wish more games were like that, but its not forcing teamwork.

Left 4 Dead does, and its unique in that way.

Uncharted 2s co-op is lame. LBPs co-op is again, much like Borderlands, single player but with another person there. only theres much less to do than in Borderlands.

Splinter Cell Conviction is also very good co-op.

this list isn't this gen, it's this gen for 360
Gotta say I agree with theif... I was expecting Halo, L4D, Gears, Boarderlands, Resistance 1/2, LBP, Uncharted 2, New Super Mario Bros. Wii for sure

Left 4 Dead is definitely one of the best co-op experiences - and preferred the first game to the second... can't wait for the threequel!
