Ubisoft has confirmed that it will be moving into film-making, along with adding books to its game development and publishing business.
It is likely to be a new title as opposed to previously released Ubisoft games -- which include the Tom Clancy series, Rayman Raving Rabbids, and Far Cry -- because Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot believes it is key to make the two products at the same time. He commented, "The goal will not be to do the book of the game but the book will be a product in itself that will give you more background and will make you feel more immersed."
The executive explained the reasoning behind the decision as, "We will start making movies not because we want to, but because this is what we have to do. If we don't we will not be able to take advantage of the next generation." He also commented that releasing a range of different entertainment products based on the same IP would be a good thing from a marketing point of view as well.
