NowGamer: Peter Molyneux, Microsoft’s Creative Director, has given the heaviest hint yet that Fable 3 won’t be the last game in the Fable series and that he is already gearing up to make Fable 4...
For being such a successful franchise, he would be stupid not to make Fable 4. EDIT: My point proven in the other "Molyneux" article, you hate the guy so much yet you keep popping up in every article that features him. You really need to get a life bro.
Maybe he should just stop and leave the integrity of the series where it is. It's clear that he's always gonna nitpick at his own work and never be satisfied so really what would be the point? Has he ever been a part of a game that he's satisfied with? If he's always gonna promise on things that he can't deliver in his games, then what would be the point in carrying on with the franchise only to disappoint the fans further. Aha... to make money of course!
If Fable 3 turns out to be good and if he has lots of ideas for Fable 4 then why not? I'd be all for it since I enjoy the Fable series very much.
Exactly, but please make sure it fits. Don't just do it to do it, do it because you have a good story in mind and some new ideas on gameplay. If it doesn't fit, you could always start a new IP and market it as being from the Makers of the best selling Fable franchise. I think that last bit is the issue we face today. People are afraid to not keep up a franchise because they don't think other people will like a new IP even if it's from an established development team.
I wish Lionhead would start work on something different.
Wonder what kind of game they would make. Also what kind of game would you like to see from them?
I liked Black & White. Maybe something similar. I would like to see anything they come up with other than Fable. Maybe a Fable type game set in the future like Mass Effect. By the way they are working on Milo...but I am not interested in that.
I think it's time Peter makes something new, He obviously got the talent.
Or at least the talent to say he has talent, while calling his prior work crap while he's at it. That it didn't meet his expectations.
I liked that concept for the game "B.C." from a few years back. And with MS's renewed focus on the PC, I think a return to "Black and White" is in order.
We would love to hear your opinion
Naughty Dog made the successful Jak and Daxter series, and then moved on to something better. Just because you can make a successful game and sell millions of copies doesn't mean you should compromise your ideas. I'd like to see Lionhead work on a new game, using a new engine. I've heard the Fable 3 engine is an updated engine from Fable 1 on the Xbox.
The thing about what you've said, Lionhead did compromise their ideas. Molyneux is a literal roller-coaster who talks up a game before its out, mentions ideas likely to be incorporated or discussed in it, then talks its down, say how they could and should have done better, months after its out. Just in time to talk up the next game I might add.
That's all part of his personality. Of the 3 million people who purchased fable 2, how many of them do you think even know who Peter is, or have ever heard what he's promised? If you listen to what developers have to say about their games during development, then you might be disappointed by the final results. For example, Sony Santa Monica initially said their game would run in 1080p at 60 frames per second. While I don't give a shit about resolution and frames per second (as long as it's stable), a few people on this site took it up the ass when the dev announced they were lowering the native res to 720p. And the same goes for Polyphony Digital. Initially I remember weather being a standard feature announced by PD, but not too long ago, that feature became sketchy. I'm glad it's back again, but the point is that if developers reveal anything about the game while it's in production, then they might disappoint fans with the final product. Peter never makes "promises." He just talks.
All you're doing is backing up my point. Whatever Santa Monica game you're talking about, they were talking about resolution and frame-rate, not actual in-game features. Weather in GT5 was whispered about and apparently eventually delivered, not talked about at length during interviews. Not saying that Molyneux is/was a good game maker, just that his habit for running off at the mouth, by implying if not promising game features well before they're out, has tarnished his image. That its annoying in this idiotic console war gen for one side to have such an example in attempt to throw it in other's faces.
Every developer/producer talks up their product. Claims it will revolutionize gaming. It's their job and maybe on paper during the design phase or greenlight meeting it did. But time, resource, limitations and other factors play in and all those great ideas get lost or cut. i can remember reading a bunch of articles in EGM and other gaming magazines of games to be released and what they promised to do. And when i finally played it, it did none of that....*enter the matrix*
I wouldn't mind a new Black & White title. Hell, I'd find it to be pretty cool if they made a B&W title centered around the Fable universe on the PC.
so long as he can keep making pretty damn good games and improving the series, he can keep making them forever, just don't turn it into an annual franchise, that would mean the death of any true improvement in the series. feature creep would destroy fable.
