An article describing the increasing prices of games and the advantages of 2ª hand or imported games. Companies are doing what it's in their hands to eradicate this "market".
Um, most places sell second hand games for $5 cheaper than new. In some situations I've actually seen used games for more expensive than new. Example: GameStop, used LittleBigPlanet $64.99. New LittleBigPlanet GOTY edition with a bunch of extra content, $59.99. Someone explain that to me please. It's not the first time either. I went to get Mass Effect 2 for 360 new for $29.99 a few weeks ago, and there were used copies for $39.99. And while I was buying it, there were 3 people behind the counter, talking in full volume about how they hate me for not buying a used game or a pre-order, and comparing percentages of pre-orders and used games to games they've actually sold and berating me by saying that I was bringing their percentages down for not buying a used game. It's ridiculous. I hope everything goes digital download in the future so we don't have to deal with shit like this from places like GameStop. I buy all my games new (and typically online) so I don't have to deal with this shit. It's a disgrace to the video game industry. What's the difference between pirating a game and buying it used? $55 to a heartless company that has nothing to do with making the game and who do absolutely nothing to earn the money other than the actual act of selling it, which anyone anywhere can do. That act is not worth $55 and someone already paid full price for that game. People are just putting money directly into that company's pockets for doing nothing, and honestly, it's worse than pirating. At least with pirating, no one is making a profit off it. The actual developers don't get a cent either way, so why does it make it "okay" to paid some random person $55 of pure profit to the greedy person for a game when he did absolutely nothing to earn it, or download a game for free where no one tries to charge you $5 less than the brand new price and no one gets hurt. Well, the only one who gets hurt is the developers who don't get a cent for a pirated game, right? Oh but wait, they don't get a cent for a used game either. Honestly, what's the difference? Seriously, $5 less? Is it really worth it? And they try to charge you disc protection too, for like $3 or something. That's $58 for a used game. Jesus, just pay the $2 you cheap bastards so at least some of the money goes to the hard working people who actually created the thing you love and not to some heartless company trying to rip people off for pure profit when they had nothing to do with the production of the actual game. I don't understand why it bothers peoples' conscience to download a game for free, yet it puts their conscience at ease knowing that $55 of their money is going to someone who did absolutely nothing to earn it. If anything, what GameStop is doing is more illegal in my eyes than pirating is. Both have the same effect on the developers, but one way is making a profit off it and one isn't.
Ya, but everyone at Eb games/Gamestop is retarded.
I bought resistance 2 for 10 dollars used. not too bad for a 30 dollar NEW game since its greatest hits, Gamestop sucks but they do have their moments
Lol 2nd hand market is only for poor people who dont have a daily job
What rock did you crawl out from under? Do you live in the same world I do? Either you are a fool or you are trying to be a jerk. People who work for a living know the value of a dollar... I don't think that includes you.
You're a jackass
2nd hand market is for smart consumers who get both the products and some money left in their pockets. Some publishers don't deserve shit.
I 100% import them . Beats the official 120-130 cost for games here at home , but most of all , i usually hate the localized version . Used however ? No i dont care at all . If i didnt feel like supporting devs for them games , i'd just pirate them . You're only fooling yourself if you believe you are doing any favor and support via used . You are pretty much the same "phantom cost" and potential lost of income than a pirate . Even when hiding behind the "someone actually bought it new , otherwise you wouldnt have gotten it used" argument , well that someone isnt you , and nothing indicates that one sell still wouldnt be made without the used market
i don't hesitate to import ..the language barrier isn't that high for me and the game is cheaper..and most of the time in europe we get the game months and months LATER . ( tales of vesperia 360 , blazblue and the list goes on ) as for used i mostly don't care ..if the game appealed to me from the start i would have bought it NEW ..and sometimes my wallet call me back to reality
true regarding the delays to europe but it isn't half as bad as it once was. A year to 18 months even for high profile mainstream games wasn't uncommon. Nowadays most games come out the same time with only the odd niche cult games like the ones you've mentioned plus kenzan and yakuza 3 getting a delay. It isnt as bad as it once was. At one time importing was the only choice if you wanted to play games.
it's still too much ... it's being worked on but it's not at the same place yet.. when it'll still cost me less to import rather than buy the local version i'll still import
more importantly, why is N4G allowing non english articles to be posted? No, I don't want to read google's translated version. English or gtfo and make your own non-English news hub. /rant
In my mind games are alot cheaper today. In the early to mid nineties I would hassle my parents and save all the money I had forimported games because anyone from the UK who like games back then will tell you PAL games ran badly. This included the first playstation and saturn, ps2, and to a lesser extent gamecube. The Xbox was the only machine where it had a 60hz option. Since then I ve found gaming to be cheaper and easier because most games or machines appear in europe around the same time and there isnt a quality issue with pal games anymore. The last imported machine I bought was a PS3 because of the huge delay to europe. If anyone my age remembers the days of £750 jap launch Playstations, £120 street fighter 2 turbo for the SFC and crowding into your local import emporium just to get a glimpse of Mario 64 that was only being sold with the machine for £1000 will tell you gaming nowadays is a whole lot cheaper... it also appears less magical too.
