Exclusive Dreamcast consoles you never knew existed

Sega fans continue to have some of the best collections in the gaming industry. However, one particular system, the Dreamcast, remains a collector's item, especially given the high number of different Dreamcast consoles released. Here's what Sega collectors could be missing.

The days when Dreamcast was around were probably some of the greatest times in video games. Not just from Sega, but the entire industry was filled with quality great games. But thats back when the Japanese were running the show...

Edit: @the article. The PS2 had several LE consoles too. Some will cost you a fortune now like the red one that came only in Japan.

Why don't you just go jump off a cliff? See, I can ask dumb questions too. Who said I didn't already have one? The Dreamcast games will be up-rezzed and have trophies, better framerates, etc. I don't care about trophies but meh. There's very few DC games I'm even interested in, and if I cared THAT much I'd just use an emulator.

NarooN... you will get ports, emulated ports. You will have 640x480 (4:3) Resolution, you will NOT get better framerates, you will get worse ones, and you WILL get gimped versions of the games that used licensed assets.

Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi are two very good examples that SEGA are still lazy, just use your older Dreamcast.

The Dreamcast is (still is, not 'was') beautiful looking, from the machine itself to the packaging. It looks like the Xbox360 took some aesthetic ideas from it (whereas the design of the original Xbox was just an horrendous rush job).

The Dreamcast was the first proper online console (although I nearly always play single player games). My favourite Dreamcast bequeathments to the world are the Dreamcast version of the Crazy Taxi arcade game and Jet Set Radio. Crazy Taxi is regarded as the first time that a great arcade game came out not long after on a home console and looked just as good. It epitomises Sega's fun pick up and play nature. You may not play it for long periods but you will still want to return to it in years to come.

Jet Set Radio is an inspired idea. I can still remember when I first saw it in the shops, along with Sonic Adventure 2 (much better than the first Sonic Adventure). JSR still feels like a wonderful one off that nobody has ever come close to. In essence it's a platform game (sometimes very small platforms i.e rails) but in a realistic though stylised Japanese city, that happens to be played on skates. It has the feel of free roaming although it doesn't aim to be like a GTA type game - it has a typically tight Sega feel with a time limit. The Xbox re-imagining, Jet Set Radio Future, is more laid back and a bit easier with more extensive railing but, graphically, the cel-shading of the Dreamcast game is arguably more fitting and impressive, even when not considering its earlier technology. The Dreamcast game (and several other Dreamcast games) actually has graphical effects that the Wii would be very proud of.
