So it never was designed for games at all?

a video game is basically just a bunch of numbers being crunched.

the Cell Processor was designed to crunch incredible numbers of numbers.

so, i'd say that, yeah, the Cell is designed for games, among a bunch of other purposes.

in this day and age, you will rarely find a piece of technology that *CAN'T do a multitude of other things. i think we should accept this dual nature of our consumer electronics and move on.

looking at games like Heavenly Sword, Lair, Uncharted, MGS4, Ratchet and Clank, Eye of Judgement, Folklore, and so many others hitting the PS3, it's extremely hard, dare i say, impossible, to take your comment seriously.

"So it never was designed for games at all?" lol. that's just silly.

The Cell was designed with several purposes in mind. I think that it would be an injustice for such a processor to only be used for video games. I remember reading a year or so back that Sony was thinking of creating medical imaging devices based upon the PS3's chipset. Looks like they may be following through on that now.
