I definitely agree with there being a lot of redundancy in the shooter genre. With IW gone, COD can die off as far as I care; I'll give MOH a chance. I would rather have Insomniac move onto something as original as R&C then them stick with Resistance.

There is room for both. Resistance needs a bit more flair in it's art style, which wouldn't be hard for people as creative as Insomniac, and it needs to have more sci-fi guns. Killzone's guns are fairly standard so if Resistance branches out and takes some ideas from Ratchet and Clank, there should definitely be a market for both.

Resistance 1 was good but Resistance 2 sucked. There doesn't seem to be much hope for Resistance 3 after that. Killzone 3 will obviously be better than Resistance 3 since Killzone 3 is being made by a good studio while Resistance 3 is being made by Insomniac and they are meh.

Not at all. Both are completely different universes, obviously different stories, likable and dislikeable characters, great looking gameplay (at least from what we've seen of KZ3)...I don't see how publishing 2 potentially awesome exclusive games, regardless if they're FPSs, is futile. While technically the Helgan race is "alien", it conjures up images of those you'd find in Resistance or Halo.

I can understand you disagreeing with the article, that's fine. However, assuming that the writer has never played KZ seems silly. I read the entire article and even he says they aren't the same game, but it's obvious they are very similar. So this example is very apples to apples, while comparing Halo and GEOW is clearly apples to oranges. I like all four of the shooters I've just mentioned, but I'll admit that I can do without another Resistance. KZ fills my sci-fi shooter need on PS3. This is a subjective topic though.

What's the problem exactly? KZ is a PS3 exclusive and in KZ1 the Helegast were invading with the ISA being outnumbered, out-manned, etc. The brink of extinction part is an exaggeration, but their home planet should be screwed up after the first game. Besides, KZ barely has a story, so someone off by little details doesn't make me think they've never played it.

more fun playing Res:FOM then KZ2 but I think KZ2 was > Res2. I think in terms if amazement factor and immersion KZ > Res. In terms of pure gameplay fun factor Res3 SHOULD be better than KZ3. I can see how he's making it as vague as possible to try and get a story from where there isn't one. Resistance is as much like Killzone as it is Halo. You can argue about how they're all 'too similar' but if you can't tell the difference between the games then you have issues.
Personally I prefer the Killzone series over Resistance, however I love both of them, and the hedgehog grenade is still my favourate weapon of any game.

Great, now their complaining that we have to many types of games to play. Since the Ps2 we have always had more than one type of the same type of game. That is way each of them don't make as much as the single games on other systems. for example Nintendo had Mario,basically the only platformer for the Nintendo. We had Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank plus a few third party ones as well. KZ3 and R3 will just make a wider choice for shooters when they release along side everything else that is coming next year.

However I think Resistance could do more to set itself apart. Singleoplayer co-op, vehicles in mutliplayer... etc etc, it's also gonna' need to improve a lot from R2 cause R2 didn't compare to Killzone 2, mainly because of general production values and presentation.

The article itself mentions what if Black Ops and MOH came from the same publisher. I'm assuming the reason these two games were chosen was because they are from Sony. Not to say the writer is an Xbot. I'll agree that R2 and KZ2 are similar and competing for the same audience. I didn't get the feeling that the entire article was saying "OMG Sony is going to release them on same day", but a 4 month gap isn't big enough for casual gamers. Not to mention, Sony's retarded move to release R&C so close to Uncharted 2, so Sony does have a history of somewhat screwing itself.

The people mentioning Halo and GEOW being too similar if R2 and KZ2 are too similar... that's a silly argument. Halo and GEOW aren't even the same genre, not to mention GEOW is a campaign and co-op focused game while Halo is more about the multiplayer. On a side note, it's so annoying when people call GEOW a "FPS". Did people forget what that means? What's next? Should we throw any game with a gun into the FPS genre? they are different franchises, with different goals, despite being in the same genre. not everyone loves Killzone. not everyone loves Resistance. fortunately, Sony's developers recognize this, and they encourage variety in their franchises, even within the same genre. Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, and Ratchet and Clank are all action/platformers, and yet they are very different.

Resistance has better weapons and is a much better hands on, fun shooter. Killzone 2 is more for the hardcore, it's not quite as easy to slip into.

Personally, I'm more excited about Resistance 3 but it needs to be light years better than the previous two to get developed and I want Insomniac putting as much heart, soul and effort as a Ratchet title.
