Intel announces simplified product-naming scheme

Intel plans to revise its current product naming system on January 1, 2008, in order to eliminate a great deal of confusion and simplify things for consumers. Under the new plan, Intel Viiv Processor Technology and Intel vPro Processor Technology will now be known as Intel Core 2 Duo Processor with Viiv (or vPro) respectively. Naming distinctions based on cores are also being eliminated-Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Duo, and Core 2 Solo will all revert back to Core 2 Processor.

Now let's see them change the name to reflect clock speed as well.

Imagine going to the store and seeing a box with AMD dual core 2.8 Ghz AM2 socket processor on the box.

The new intel ones just sound confusing though and im sure the people who buy them know what they are talking about. Its not your average citizen who builds a pc. Local electical dealer for those.
