"Madden" said to regain past glory

Football season is almost here and for U.S. video gamers, that means one thing -- a new version of "Madden NFL", which could be back in championship form after a couple of lackluster seasons.

"Madden NFL 08", to hit store shelves next week, promises smoother visuals, finer control over players, and more dramatic gridiron action, such as gang tackles and mid-air hits.

"When you look at how old the franchise is and how long we've been doing it, we are held to a really, really high standard," lead producer David Ortiz said in an interview.

"The industry says, 'Okay, another 'Madden' game, what are they going to show us to make us think this a great game?'"

The story is too old to be commented.

While some improvements are welcomed, EA has a long way to go. They had better hope to either retain their exclusivity deal w/ the NFL or that they can actually do a better job with the game before 2K sports gets back into the game.

EA's presentation is terrible, the graphics are still "meh" at best. The playbook had better be updated this year as well.

Promises, promises. They have let us down in the past and why should we believe that they won't do it again. The trailer doesn't look that great, looks like last years game.

"For '06 we had some rough ratings, it was wasn't the biggest shining moment but we figured out the technology ... and this year we think we've come full circle," Ortiz said.

If you guys figured out the technology then why is the visuals STILL incomplete and (from what I read earlier in the week) why is online STILL a lag fest?
