One would think by now, with all the recent bad press surrounding Microsoft Xbox 360's red right of death, retailers would get a hint and make sure that at least...
Hit the jump for more...
That's the way it should be advertised....AAHAHAHAHHAHHA
It is so popular, is it not? :P
For once you're right on point, BG/Fake-Gates.

M$ should throw in the coffin...whoops...I mean the repair shipping box with purchase. That way people could sent to M$ for repair right away!! :P
Last week I was in a game store. A client was trying X360 and it broken down with RRoD while he was trying it.
Made me burst out laughing.
I hope you pointed and laughed at the same time BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!
i'm so tired of any news about this
i also imagine that xbox is a launch console maybe, and it sits inside a glass case while its sits on all day, but i am tired of this kind of news, all it does is make sony fanboys giggle
199.99 299.99 399.99?
Since Red Ring is so popular here in the US, They should make a movie. It should be called "The XBOX360 n The Red Ring"
thats not even remotely funny as in no form of funnyness
yeah, bad attempt at humor, maybe 360's red ring around the rosy parade spectacular.. now we're getting somewhere.
how about a movie called ......xbox : the fellowship of the ring .....then we get the sequel .....xbox2 : the two towels ......and last but not least , to complete our trilogy ..... ps 3 : return of the king ! :)
The Two Towels. C'mon, now thats funny.
actualy the 3 red rings of death is a promotion for halo 3, since master chief is supposedto die in this one
3-third in series
Fellowship of the ring, the two towels... hahahahah. though I don't agree with your last name. Should be The Return of the Ring imo
I'm so bloody sorry, I always try to be neutral, but anyone should agree that it's quite ironic and humourous.....
there should be a sign under it saying "got towel?" :)
Edit: hehe thx, bubble back at ya too :)
btw. Futurama & Family Guy FTW! sorry i just couldn't hold it ;)
hehehehe that was funny lol

i was in fao schwarz toy store in midtown manhattan about a month ago with my niece, nephew and sister who came to visit me in nyc, and their demo 360 had the red ring of death too! i thought about taking a pic of it, but didn't feel like wasting a jpeg. someone in nyc should go and check if it's still dead.
hey i was there this summer, they had an awesome lego darth vader, i noticed the 360 amd microsoft stuff, but no ps3, hmmm
But this makes me laugh a little
Anybody could walk in and snap a picture. Where was this advertised? It looks like someone walked in with a camera and took a picture of the display.
Why even post this on the 360 side? You should of just posted in on the PS3 side because they will be the only ones commenting and will seem to get more out of this than anyone.
This is not news.

I'm with you Bloodmask
Don't whine Sony fanboys because you put sh*t articles thru this site all the time. I'm too lazy to go back and paste in the many articles that are from forums. I would argue that every flippin article posted about DVD9 being the reason the game was delayed to be just as much a rumor as this post. Rockstar have not confirmed what this most recent delay deals with and an opinion either way should be taken with a grain of salt.
look who's whining now.
haha razor is a candy ass
so i guess you do not refute that you are indeed a candy ass, nice. Although the mother attacks are quite interesting, as my mother has passed from this world, i guess you feel more comfortable in viewing me as a "fat nerd" imaybe you having this image is the only thing making you feel comfortable in your candy ass being. So furthermore, quite yer whining you little b!tch, and deal with it.
Tit for Tat I guess.. I whine about it on both sides because it's not doing any justice to this site, but if you look at my comment I never agreed that GTA IV was because of Sony. I'm not about to go back and check every post but the amount of flamebait 360 articles easily outweights the PS3 ones.
I should be used to it by now.
360Sheep: And you are a fat nerd who probably still sleeps with his mommy.. And your point is?
They are advertising with a broken 360 at my local game store called ELKJOP in norway, trondheim.
I think SONY hve something to do with both of these cases.
Anyone who has seen me post on this board knows that I think the 360 is the best system with the best games and overall experience. However, I will say that I do see a lot of the consoles in the stores with the 3 rings of death. It doesn't take an Einstein to realize that these consoles are overheating. When you put the 360 in a plastic case like that, it's only a matter of time before it goes. The 360 requires ventilation for longevity. The newer 360s that are coming out now with the smaller chips and new heatsinks will be able to reach a higher temperature and will be durable. If only they were made like that from the start. Hopefully Microsoft will learn from this.
That's not to say that every 360 is doomed. Far from the truth. I keep my 360 very well ventilated, including the power supply. Doing this actually helps my system run at a fairly cool temperature.
Yes what you say about putting in a plastic box is definately true.
But it's not an excuse for overheating.
For a electronic product nowdays, overheating under any circumstance that doesn't involve deliberately heating it is not acceptable IMHO
right there with you strange, its an excuse that lets 360 sheep feel better about a system that is eventually going to croak. I should be able to play the system while is under a heap of clothes, did with the ps1, n64, ps2, nes, and genesis systems, and now they have to treat the 360 like it has a disease.. too funny
haha, and you think that the 360 is the only machine in kiosks that are enclosed in plastic, get out a little more, in fact, lets get the race on to find a dead ps3 inside a kiosk, cmon man, getting outside will do you good.
There's no excuse for it overheating under normal conditions, very true. But when it says in the manual (on page 3 to be exact) not to confine it in enclosed spaces or block any ventilation holes, then it's not the fault of Microsoft. Every 360 in a plastic display case is violating the instructions. "360 Sheep", you talk as if every 360 is going to break, when you know that it's nowhere even near possible.
Here's and idea, why don't you put your PS3 into a plastic case like the one in the photo and leave it on for the entire day like the 360s in the stores. It would be absurd to do so and expect it to last a long time. Store models of every system often break because of the stress that they are put under.
Keep in mind this is Microsofts own display case. Its not like the retailer gets an Xbox and just bungs it into whatever hes got lying around. This is what M$ is supplying them with so if the ventilation is unsatisfactory whose fault is it, especially when they know how fragile the machine is in the first place.
It's a single incident at 1 CompUSA, if we trust the photo. It is not "advertising". It is a kiosk that failed. The same thing happens to PS3 and Wii kiosks.
I've seen a rrod console on display too at an fyi a few weeks ago, this isn't really a big deal, we already know a certain % of them are prone to fail, so why even post this as news?
yeah.... at a TARGET in Linden, NJ, they are advertising the RROD too.
I mean you figure if the damn thing aint working, why turn it on?? must be the work of some PS ninjas.
Just without the price tags. Oh, and there should be a PS3 kiosk next to the dead 360.
yeah like a before/after comparison :)
Well, maybe you get a discount
I love how the article says "The media portrays it as a system that constantly overheats, is poorly manufactured, and is too unstable to be on store shelves."
The media doesnt portray it that way, the Xbox does...
My local gamestop and Best Buy also had their display 360s with the ring of death, I don't know what I think about it.
I think it's safe to say.. that Sony's fanboys RROD and Core not having a hard drive is their official flame bait...
and in about a month, the flamebait of price and non existent games will evaporate for you 360 sheep
Oh lets not take it personal...this is funny....I think Peter Moore is even laughing at this...........OH WAIT....OOPS
Ok, i know i am going to get flamed and called a lier for this but it's related. When the PS3's came out for display at Bestbuy we had our display replaced 2 times because of over heating. BUT in the PS3's defense i don't think it was the actually unit. I don't know if anyone has looked at them in a store but the PS3 behind the clear plastic case it not the actual unit its a fake. The real one is below in a metal locked cage thats small and has red lights all over looks like a heating problem from the start. But my point it not that the PS3 broke because i don't think they normally overheat but it is not News if it does in a store. I mean if i was a fanboy too i would of taken pictures of it freezing all day and not turning on and post the same thing but i'm not. Although i think they fixed the problem because a PS3 rep came into our store and starting pulling stuff out of the display. Hasn't over heated since.
they need a recall on all defective systems,3 year warranty is not enough
XBOX IS SAD GOOD THING I SOLD MY XBOX FOR SUM BIRD SH#T
I just want to point out, yeah all the Sony fans were making jokes and having a laugh, but no one was nasty about it until the Xbox fans turned up and started insulting everyone. I'm just saying.
As for the story, this looks exactly like my local Harvey Norman. I'll go in there and its only working about 25% of the time. And JBHIFI just gave up and put a PS3 in its place so there 3 PS3 displays and no XB now.
"One would think by now, with all the recent bad press surrounding Microsoft Xbox 360’s red right of death, retailers would get a hint and make sure that at least, the 360’s on display are working ones." Ummm, thats the thing. You dont know they're broken till they stop working. What surprises me is that anyone expects something different when the new hardware isnt out yet. Every XB made the old way is suseptible to this. You cant blame retailers for their displays breaking. "The Xbox 360 has been getting bad rep in the media." And rightly so for the reasons stated above.
in a confined kiosk it will overheat over time without proper ventilation.
I'm not saying this is the case with this particular 360. But both PS3 and 360s were overheating at E3 last year bc of lack of proper ventilation.
Displays were just getting too hot.
OK just in case that you guys dont know.
Overheating on XBOX 360 = Two red lights.
Hardware failure = Three red lights.
The one shown is hardware failures not overheat but can't rules out that frequent overheat caused the hardware failure.
Whats 1 red light mean. Error 65?
The point of this article wasn't to poke fun at the 360. But to point out the plain fact that the retailers should be smarter. They know of the faulty nature of the console. They shouldn't keep it in a enclosed box like that. Fact is no console should be left in a box like that, anything would over heat if it can't get proper ventilation.
Especially the 360 since it has been getting a lot of bad press lately, because of it's faulty nature. So, having a console die in the stores where thousands of people roam around each day isn't a good idea. For the sake of the 360s public image, and the shops ability to attract consumers to the product.
i was always told if you spit in the sky it falls in your eye,you see what happens when you dont know how to act when your king of the castle even for such a short amount of time
Oh, that's right...Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, GameStop, Walmart, Fry's, a meeelion times in articles on videogame blogs, Bill Gate's house, Peter Moore's house. I would bet that the lay person or casual gamer might even believe that is how the 360 lites up when it is turned on. I wonder what they are thinking when the press a button and nothing happens.

"One would think by now, with all the recent bad press surrounding Microsoft Xbox 360’s red right of death, retailers would get a hint and make sure that at least, the 360’s on display are working ones."
The demo kiosks are the property of Microsoft. The retailers many times do not even have a key for the kiosk. Usually, a Microsoft rep makes his/her rounds in a certain area making sure that the machine is working, has the proper demos, puts up/takes down POP displays etc.
Sony and Nintendo do the same. So, blame Microsoft...not the retailer.
to come on n4g message board and get a laugh from everybody in here.
