Motorstorm Apocalypse is the Uncharted 2 of driving games

Dualshockers: I recently got to play a pre-alpha version of Motorstorm Apocalypse at the Sony Beta Rooms event in the UK. I was amazed at how cinematic and full of action packed events that the game is and the immediate comparison that sprung to my mind while playing was that it reminded me of Uncharted 2, specifically how the scripted events blended seamlessly with the actual gameplay to create a new level of immersion. Check out the video footage below to see what I mean and hear my thoughts on the game as I play. (MotorStorm, MotorStorm: Apocalypse, PS3)

the uncharted 2 eh... interesting statement
Games4M - Rob  +   1800d ago
Just to clarify before i start getting lynched by people ranting that Gran Turismo is the king of driving games then thats not what im talking about. Im talking about the cinematic nature of it which makes you feel like a small part of a very big world that is happening around you.

I played this at PAX East 2010 in 3D HD and it was awesome!!!
hi2  +   1800d ago
is it too
much like split second?or a lot different?
Games4M - Rob  +   1800d ago
I couldnt tell you mate as i havent played Split Second. All i can say is that it plays like the other Motorstorm games so if you have ever played one of those then you can expect more of the same from the core driving.

Its really the enviromental stuff that sets this game apart, its like rally driving pushed into a new dimesnsion :)

Do the graphics look better than M:PF? because I wasnt really able to tell from trailers (not trolling)
Greywulf  +   1800d ago
I mean.. have u even played Split Second -- guy whos asking?
Just watch the video of the game. If you think they just remade split second... well... The scale/action/gameplay is all different.
not sure what to say..

And Games4m:

Apparently there is a war going on -- on the island. Which is why the damage/chaos is random or something. Those little people you kept hitting were fighting against the other people there.

Next time u play use the cockpit/hood view!

what was the beep about? good vid mate.
Games4M - Rob  +   1800d ago
Yeah i get that there is some kind of conflict going on i just wasnt sure if that was what had caused all the destruction in the first place or if people were now fighting to survive over whats left of the resources after some other catastrophe.

in some of the scenes where you drive through the tunnels you can actually see in the video gangs of people shooting at each other, Im betting there will probably be a trophy releating to killing X amount of gang dudes or something.

@Jack Burton - it was just a mistake mate. I got a bit giddy and named a game as being one of the 3D titles when it wasnt so i thought it best to bleep it out to prevent confusion.

I think MotorStorm Apocalypse was in development before Split Second. Before they even finished Pacific Rift.

Though that's besides the point. What I mean to say is that it isn't too much like Split Second. It plays a lot like MotorStorm usually does actually.
Split Second has structures falling while in MotorStorm entire cities are collapsing, changing paths throughout the race.
Sev  +   1800d ago

You are mistaken. Motorstorm wasn't at PAX East 2010. It wasn't even announced at that point. Nor was there a patch for 3D gaming on the PS3.

Was it some other industry event.
aGameDeveloper  +   1800d ago
I wonder how epic or interesting it's going to seem the 20th time you play through a level?

I'm not downplaying how awesome it might be, just pointing out that the destruction is almost certainly canned and might get old after a while.

Why disagree with my previous post? I was only pointing something out.

Anyways, MS:A will be pretty fun to play :)
Incognegro  +   1799d ago
If I recall correctly...from what I read, when you play through the campaign mode, you'll play as 3 different people. When each person views one level that one of the other 2 or both had played at previously, the amount of destruction will vary. Basically speaking, you can play that same level for the first time when it's just completely decimated, but then later down the road, you can play as one of the other 2 when all of that destruction occurred previously.

As far as the multiplayer aspect, I don't recall them saying too much about it, but if i had to guess... locally, you could designate how much of the game's destruction will occur during the match, probably directly related to the levels seen from the 3 perspectives in the campaign, or there could be even more that they haven't exactly spoken about. There could also be an option where the destruction is just random and it would be near impossible to predict what would happen throughout the race. <- This much is pure speculation, so don't quote me on that.

Hervey rain in 3D
In That Dualshock Video. He stars Talking about games he played in 3D.

He mentions Killzone 3, GT5. But the first game gets beeped out.

And I'm willing to bet 10000000000000000000 internet dollars, that what he meant to say was Hervey rain. You can clearly hear "H".
Denethor_II  +   1800d ago
Yeah he does say Heavy Rain, you can read his lips

He has already said in a comment above that what he said was a mistake which was why he bleeped it out, so it dosnt matter what he said.

This looks really, really good! From the video I've just seen the title of the vid is not an understatement. Those falling buildings and the floors collapsing, simply looks brilliant, Moterstorm is a good racer but add thos elements! Sony FTW

i would call that a bold statement. But after playing it for myself and with 3d i sa that sounds just about right.
Baltis  +   1800d ago
It's almost as if every Sony developer says this absurd tag line just to get hype and excitement for their game. It's like if they say this then people will buy it. Sad, really. But, with that said, I do love the Motor Storm franchise and will buy this one even though I don't agree with it's location much. I was hoping for something else. Then again, these guys had me hooked with MSPR so I'm not going to doubt them here.

Edit: I'm actually interested in what you would have rather seen from MotorStorm, I think this setting looks amazing. I've never been a fan of MotorStorm but I'm really interested in this game.

WOW that game looks awesome. The actual track didnt look spectacularly challenging (mostly straights) but the game itself looks really really good. If thats a pre-alpha build then the final thing has got shitloads of potential.

So is the 3D worth having then ?

Wow Ps3 has 3 upcoming racing games
-Gran Turismo 5
-Motorstorm Apocalypse
-Twisted Metal

Twisted Metal is open-map car combat, not racing. Anyway I've been a loyal Motorstorm follower since the original and this one has shattered my high expectations so far. It looks incredible.

I bought both MotorStorms. I picked Pacific Rift up a couple of months ago and loved it! I like how it feels really different every time.
yoshiro  +   1800d ago
certainly looks awesome!!
chrisgay  +   1800d ago
Looks really nice, it could do with a bit more of a sense of speed, but obviously there's a long way to go from that video and I'm sure there'll be a ton of post processing to give me what I'm after.
Petro  +   1800d ago
I must say that Motorstorm: Pacific Rift had plenty of speed :) Its just the third person view that takes away from the sense of speed.

I can recommend Pacific Rift to everyone, especially if you like to party with friends and do some drunken split-screen races.

Just thought give it try and theirs 608meg update would not problem with internet connection as its 7mb but Sony servers seem to think otherwise and its taking 30mins to download

My instincts tell me this game is going to do a Split Second Velocity. The tracks are cool. but only for the first few times.
cliffbo  +   1799d ago
what? you've played the whole game already!!! the tracks deform differently depending on what difficulty setting. so what were the 40 circuits like, pray tell
Bell Boy  +   1800d ago
My instincts tell me that this a day 1 purchase for me...love Pacific Rift(totally underated imo)...that and WipeOut HD have my driving fix covered...but this beauty looks awesome.

I foresee many hours going into this just like Pacific Rift...can't wait
HeroXIV  +   1800d ago
Looks gorgeous, some of the stuff you can tell is scripted but the bit when the entire road caves in and you end up near the subway... really was seamless, I can't wait for this.

I have never been a big fan of racing style games, but just the idea of driving through a crumbling city just gets me excited. Great concept of the game, for sure. It looks fun.

Who was that awesome camera guy? Anyway, fun times were had by all. Motorstorm was a gem, but I agree about the straightness of the track.

I am sure they wanted the most casual track for testers/competitions.
Hoje0308  +   1800d ago
Yeah, my guess is that this is one of the first tracks you'll play in the game. I'm also going to assume that they'll start things out a little easier compared to the last two games, since the environment will probably take some getting used to for people new to the series. Motorstorm can be hard enough for newcomers, and the introduction of a crumbling city in addition to the already chaotic nature of the racing could put people off if the proper learning curve isn't introduced.
ChronoJoe  +   1800d ago
If it's pre-alpha, it's probably the only track they have available for display public right now. I wouldn't look more into it, than that.
