At some point in our lives, we’ve all played a game with an introductory video that has absolutely blown us away. Regardless of how many times you’ve seen it, you just can’t bring yourself to skip it and the further you advance in the game, the more meaningful and exciting that video becomes. It never fails to get you pumped about playing.

Agreed. FFVIII has one of the best opening videos. I don't like the game, but I'll give credit where credit is due. The opening was fantastic. Persona 3 FES' opening was pretty awesome too, as well as Nocturne's second intro.

Agree 100%, ff8 has one of my favourite intros of all time.

Also, I disagree that the draw system sucked, I actually like it (although I can definitely list a few improvements).

nice list of intro ..i hate ff8 but even i can understand the intro is fantastic ... if fact the intro and the music are the only good thing about this game ..i can enjoy

But you did. Not only is it one of the coolest usages of anime in a RPG (why they never turned it into an animated series is beyond me) but holy god the soundtrack was amazing.

I really liked the intro from wild arms 1, which i also still consider to be the best one.
That whistle tune and guitar play is really cool, so was the animation.

I think the lack of tales of "anything", and the fact that Kingdome hearts and .hack are represented more then once kills the validity of this opinion piece, but hey, that is just me.

And how did the opening for Wild Arms 3 beat out WA1?

For f*ck sake, its still the only JRPG that had a 2+ hour tutorial *before* the intro that tricked you into thinking you were already playing the full game!

Suikoden 2 opening is my favourite. I ripped it and watch it on my PS3 every now and then. I am a Suikoden fanboy and I need another game now.

I just fire up my original Suikoden 2 when I feel the need to watch it.

These kinds of list are very subjective which I guess is the reason they can get so hot easily.

Myself I would put Personna 3, Wild Arms 3, FF8, Tales of Symphonia and of course, Suikoden 2 as my personnal top 5, in no particular order, with a special mention for Parasite Eve 1-2 for what was some of the best console CGI for the time.

Not a JRPG or an RPG in the most classical sense but I thought that Mass Effect 2 has a really awesome intro. The Normandy breaking apart, Shephard getting spaced... awesome...

Well, the article does say that it isn't an all-inclusive list and the title is "Twelve OF the Best", not "THE Twelve Best".
