Kinecting the Dots: How Microsoft’s Kinect Could be a Game-Changer

Microsoft’s Kinect (once known as ‘Project Natal‘) could be a game-changing platform, if marketers and developers can connect the dots (pardon the wordplay). Not only does it provide unique opportunities for gaming and other more traditional forms of entertainment, but it also has high potential to affect commercial areas as diverse as retail, customer loyalty programs, fitness and education–enabled by various forms of augmented reality and social gaming.

The only way in which it will be a game-changer is how it has changed Microsoft's focus away from the hardcore gamer.

I'd love it for someone to prove me wrong, but sadly day by day Microsoft themselves keep proving me right with their continued focus on everything Kinect.

do you ever go outside dude? I mean damn, EVERY Kinect article - BAM - you're the first comment.

For something you hate you REALLY spend a lot of time tracking....

ok gwave if halo reach, fable 3, gears 3 and all the other hardcore games started using kinect then maybe i would say you were right, as they dont im going to say you are wrong, personally i think ms needs more family games that kids can join in, so i think kinect is a step in the right direction.

It could also be a fashion-changer as well, considering you need to wear tight clothes for optimum efficiency. XD

1) You look ridiculous playing it
2) You can only play standing up
3) Requires 6 feet of space between player and device (more like 9 feet since you need 3 feet radius
for full arm movement)
4) Only two people can play at a time (and, as far as I know, I don't think any Kinect game can be played online)
5) Doesn't recognize wrist or other fine movement
6) High entry price of $150
7) Games are $50 each! Really, $50 to pet a fake tiger
8) No games appealing to hardcore gamers

No thanks. Thats not how I roll. I don't care if Move have faults or not as I am not planning on buying a PS3. All of what you mention are completely up to the person buying Kinect to decide if it is something they care about. Most are disputable. Kinect will develope far beyone what M$ has already shown. There is quite a bit more to come.

@Bigpappy, I didn't mention a thing about the Move. Don't plan on buying that either since I'm a PC gamer first and not much into the motion controller thing. Its just that, from my perspective, the Kinect looks like a total fail. Also, as far as "most are disputable", I have links to several articles that prove otherwise.

I play casual games, but from videos and demoing the Kinect my self a lil, I'm saying that Kinect is fail. Only game that seemed to work well is Dance Central, but I have to try it first though. Kinect might do well, but overall I don't think I'll get enough play time on it, if I was to get it for my family. My Wii is plenty fun with the party games. I do want to try Move though.

chances are im getting it!"
