Take-Two Execs Explain GTA IV Delay

In a conference call with investors earlier today, Take-Two execs Strauss Zelnick and Ben Feder explained the company's decision to delay Grand Theft Auto IV for the PLAYSTATION 3 and Xbox 360. Zelnick chalked up the Q2 2008 push back to "almost strictly technological problems... not problems, but challenges." They said they were "highly confident" that the game will ship within its new release window.

Asked whether one console in particular was the root of the problem, Zelnick diplomatically responded that "I know there have been rumors in the marketplace about frame rate and some other issues. We don't think it's helpful or beneficial to go into exact details of what the technological issues are. We're pushing the envelope on both the platforms." Crap. Now I don't know which torch to light!

The story is too old to be commented.

I think its pretty clear that the PS3 version is giving them problems just like the PS3 version of every game is problematic, why on earth would you think it is the 360 version, that has not been the troubled console in recent history, PS3 has the rep of being a pain in the @ss.

I think the PS3 version fell too far behind in development and they had to delay them both, MS didn't pay for a timed exclusive.

ParaDise_LosT3671d ago

You DO know that The Xbox360 version is ahead by 2weeks and the
Ps3 version id the one Late in progress right?
'Rockstar even said it them selved when they showed the trailer
they said it was running on the Xbox, so don't even think of placing blame on them...

kevin11223671d ago

you cant place blame on one and not the other. They did say the lack of hdd and lack of space on dvd were giving them problems. it is probably a combination of problems for the 360 and ps3.

As stated just last week, the PS3 version was, is, "a couple weeks behind" the 360 version. Also, by mentioning framerate, it is pretty obvious that the PS3 version is the main reason for the delay. Some people will claim that not all 360's having HDD's is the cause, but how many PS2's had HDD's, and San Andreas had a larger map that GTA 4 will.

THC CELL3671d ago

ms did not want to make this game on 2 dvds
they have a new type of dvd coming out next year that should solve there limit problem they have of fitting this game.

Microsoft have a lot to do with this problem.

Btw i am not been a fanboy cause i was planning to but this game for both consoles

How much does it cost to force a developer to support your crappy console?

50 million dollars.

Right now gamers could be looking at an amazing next gen GTA with Lair type graphics shipping on 25/50 gig BluRay discs and multiple DVDs to install onto giant pc harddrives.

Instead the entire gaming world is now sitting around waiting for the poor engineers at Rockstar to try to force GTA to fit into an entire gig less disc space compared to last gen.

PS2 had an 8 gig DVD drive.
Xbox had an 8 gig DVD drive
PS3 has a 25 gig BluRay drive.
Dreamcast 360 has 7 gig DVD drive.

And even worse the Dreamcast 360 has no standard harddrive to rely on for developers.

And we won't even go into the crappy 360 graphics that is ruining games like GTA and DMC. Lowest common denominator 360.

Let's all thank Microsoft for rushing their defective POS gimped console out the door!

"it is pretty obvious that the PS3 version is the main reason for the delay."

Exactly how do "a couple of weeks" explain a delay of 6 months? I honestly do not believe that either of the systems have anything to do with the delay. I am pretty sure that they just want to take extra time to make this game perfect. Considering the extreme hype for GTA IV they do not want to disappoint. As much as I hate the delay, I believe this delay will benefit the game greatly.

Hmm

slugg:I really do not know how you cma to that conclusion, they only show the 360 version so far.The 360 version was the one with the framrate problems.SO really stop making up BS

fresco3671d ago (Edited 3671d ago )

but if they only showed the 360 version (with frame rate issues) and said the ps3 version was "a couple weeks" behind we can only imagine how much worse it is...

ktchong3671d ago (Edited 3671d ago )

What the heck was he talking about?

Kyur4ThePain3671d ago

He said that the speculation in the industry / marketplace has been that they were having frame rate problems, but then neither confirmed or denied that. We are none the wiser.

tehcellownu3671d ago

the 360 is always pullin down the ps3.
