Willits, co-owner and lead designer at id, doesn't feel that the first-person genre is going to go away, by any stretch of the imagination. "The reason why is this," he told Next-Gen in an interview this afternoon, "Out of all the genre's, it is the one that puts you most in the game."

That's what people want. "They want the intimate experience. They want to be there," says Willits. What designers will find, he continues, is that it's okay to have a first-person game that isn't a shooter. "You're going to see more hybrids."
