You've been hit with a disruptive attack. A competitor you dismissed has successfully changed the game in your industry. Analysts and investors are clamoring for your response…or your head. What should you do?
sounds like a good idea to add a motion controller to the PS2 since it already has over 100 million users out there.... but yeah, then that means they would be losing focus on the ps3, phuck it, add a motion sensor onto that sucker too.
if you can't beat'em, join'em
(but yeah, then that means they would be losing focus on the ps3, phuck it, add a motion sensor onto that sucker too.)
The ps3 controller already has a motion sensor or an accelorometer which detects velocity in a given vector. Were have you been since nov. 06?
So what will Nintendo do? Since all of its console displays are only in 480i or 480p?
Will the U.S. Government Bankrupt the Nintendo?
Will Nintendo release a new console?
Will Nintendo release a converter?
Will Wii owners keep thier Tv's?
lol all of these questions are valid and way more intresting yet....
NO ONE IS ASKING THEM. Hmm Lets not wait, "until 1999 to Handle the Y2K bugg"
Sony's stock probs, Microsoft hardware blames,
Fail in comparison to what the Wii will have to go through in North America in a few years.
on US televisions anytime soon. I don't know where you got that from, what your referring to is the US switching from a analog tv signal to a digital signal. That doesn't make it in high def and that has nothing to do with the A/V cables that connect the Wii to your tv. Two separate things, unless you know a tv station that will be broadcasting games that are playable through a digital tuner on you tv that completely bypasses the system itself. Besides you can buy a convertor for changing the signal from digital back to analog for your old tv's.
You can't add a Wiimote-like device to a PS2 and expect that it would be compatible with the existing library. Each game would need to be specifically coded and I'm not sure how many companies would want to put resources into its already budget priced (used) titles. It's possible that a genre like racing could accept a similar control scheme to use on different games but there would be too many variations in platformers, shooters, sports, puzzles, RPGs, etc. to generalize a 'one scheme fits each genre' approach. Therefore, the main appeal of a new PS2 (a budget priced library) would be lost.
Not to mention that this would put the PS3 in competition with 2 other Sony consoles, the PS2 and the, uh, PS-Wii.
Oh my god omega, you actually believe that? your probly one of those pundits that believe the Digital switch mandate means that programming can only be transmited in HIGH DEF, and that because of this HDTV sales will rise 100% when the tv statations finally switch over to digital only broadcast *laughs*
Simply put analog tvs, and 480i signals will be around for a god 5-7 years...and by that time sony, microsoft and nintendo will have released new systems.
I don't think PS3 needs to worry about the Wii. I think the Wii is too different and it's long gone ahead of them. Wii is really for a different market. You'll notice that the fanboys don't really care about the Wii, it's always more about PS3 VS 360.
2 billion smacks. I could single handedly fix all broke Xbox 360's. Buy a small army and become a super villain in an underwater utopia. And still have enough money left over to research and build a hand held railgun. I might do a little genetic manipulation too. But I wonder if my biology could take the shock. I don't want to experience...some sort of bioshock!? It might create one heck of a mass effect on society if it gets crazy and I get loose in the world.
again? People who post this BS should be slaped in the face. This website has turned into a political hause.
What the hell nintendo is going to do in the next 2 years? I have to admit that WII is doing great, but that is not going to last forever, I mean PS3 is like a BENTLY next to a HONDA CIVIC. Come on people this kind of s!@# should not be tolerated in this website. This is sad.
well yea i do agree the ps3 is like a bently next to the civic (wii) but like i was saying earlyer honda will ALWAYS sell more civics than bentley will sell arnage's and continentals. bentley wishes it had hondas revenue... and ps... im a very happy 360 owner and im gonna cop a wii NOT a ps3 this christmasill get a ps3 next christmas or in 2009, by then ill need a blu ray player and i guess ill get to check out the 2 or 3 exclusives sony has at my liesure.
"changed the game in your industry"
Just nintendo fanboys buying up a cheep console, its all the price.
I dont know why I think of a dog with a wagging tail that laughs out loud every time I see your name
Let's see how much Nintendo's strategy of distancing themselves from core gamers last. After all, core gamers like progress, and Sony does just that. In the end they'll copy whatever Nintendo is doing and all those casuals lured by Nintendo will be gone, except the core gamers, the ones that buy at least 20 games per generation, will not be there with them.
"The final option is for Sony to try to “disrupt the disruptor.” Instead of following a me-too strategy, Sony could seek to truly develop a category-changing project."
The secret final option that could help is to use terroristic tactics to disrupt wii shipments. And bomb facilities producing wii systems.
Seriously, though the attach rate for the ps3 has not been something sony has bragged about. So who would risk buying a new peripheal for a systems suffering bad sales.
this is how it usually is with the wii, you buy it,you love it for a week or two and then, you forget about it.
that happened to me and i really regret buying it. now it's either a 360 or a ps3 for me...(i do have a ps3 now but it's not mine)
I just bought RE4 for my Wii...because there's NOTHING TO DO ON IT! I have the PS2 and PC versions of RE4...and now, the Wii version. How much more can I play this incredible game? Once I've unlocked everything...I'm screwed until Umbrella Chronicles comes out.
BTW...I reserved the stand-up poster of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption at my local gamestop. OWNED!!!
To DarthBillBoy -
Yes, they need to have a week where they just release like TEN demos onto the network, 50 videos, the following original PS1 games for PSP/PS3: FFVII - MGS - Croc - Hydro Thunder - NFL Blitz - Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX - Crash Team Racing - Crash Bash - FFVIII - all 3 Tomb Raiders - Spyro - Independence Day - Silent Hill - Fatal Frame - Clock Tower 1 & 2 - Crash 1 & 2, the VOD service, RSS support, an update for all the features we want (in-game XMB, in-game music, etc...), and release this ALL the same day as HOME and UTIII come out...with Sony combining forces with Linux makers to actually PUT an OS on the system...and a browser running as fast as a computer. The LBP Beta coming out the same day would probably make it the best day in gaming history also.
^hint hint SONY!!!
I think Sony knows what they are doing. Just because they are in "last" doesn't mean they have a plan. One has to remember that the farther out from launch we get the more profitable it becomes to sell a PS3. It then follows that Sony would prefer to sell the majority of the PS3s that will be sold after they become profitable. I think this is why they have been priced as high as they are - they can get a healthy albeit modest install base going while establishing PSN, building a library of quality games, perhaps winning the "format war". Then right about the time that the PS3 is looking really good to pretty much every one they price of the 80 gig hits say $399 - they've sorted production out long ago so they are able to continue to meet a rapidly increasing demand. All speculation, but I don't think it's unrealistic.
Sony is the only one that I see operating in calm manner - as from a position of power. I see Microsoft rushing underdeveloped hardware out of the gate to get an early lead - which is quickly evaporating. And I see Nintendo making a something that you mom thinks looks fun, but seems to lack staying power.
We'll see how it shakes out. I'm getting all three regardless.
Sony could always bring out a console that only costs 200 bucks but has graphics like a gamecube and you could play multi player with your mom.
They should call it the PS2.
Because there's only room for TWO companies to screw you over. We don't need Sony doing it too...
Sony should better the PSN with hell of lot more demos and movies and all that kinda cr*p
I think Sony's got it down. They've been in this game a LONG time and they know what we want! Maybe it got off to a bad start, but Microsoft CAN NOT...CAN NOT compete with MGS4, FFXIII, LBP, Uncharted:DF, HS, Warhawk, and ESPECIALLY...
I think HOME is the next step in the evolution of gaming. After playing with the BETA and seeing the revisions done at E3 07', this thing is just gonna DESTROY everything else.
so nintendo found a way to be innovative as they always do to sell hardware and software.the writer of the article needs to tell me something new.wow, nintendo sells something cheap.nintendo makes an innovative product.wow, nintendo makes games to capitalize on said hardware.woooooweeeeeee!i didn't know nintendo could do that.
sony will stick to the plan which is a disruptor in itself.
HOME makes miis look like snes and makes xbox live text look so 1.0.it's just laughable.there's only so much weather you can see on wii channel.and iptv will not bring in the masses.it will only cater to the already established 360 fanbase.why get iptv?i got f*cking cable and others got direct tv with dvrs.why do i need an xbox 360 for that video?i can demand it with flip of a switch.that saves me $400 f*cking dollars right there.NO MIDDLE MAN.
but let's look at what sony WILL do next.PSEYE and things like EYE OF JUDGEMENT is NEXT GEN.as marty found out in the future, kids don't play games with their hands, that's so last century like the wiimote.just wait."THE EYE IS WATCHING YOU.""AND YOU THINK YOU'RE WATCHING IT."
look ma!!no hands!!...that's nice honey...while nintendo entertains the disney kids, sony will entertain the adults and BE the center of entertainment.their movies, their music and their games.
but it won't end there.that attachment for the psp to the controller coming up is for a reason.just like the motion controller.just like the possible light wand sony patented a long time ago.
the MAG LEV SUPER TRAIN will get extra speed at TGS and LIEPZIG.the surprises are coming.
sony knows mistakes now are costly.they have a reliable next gen game playing, movie playing, music playing and psp linking system.
only a matter of time fanboys until you get run over.i'd get out of the way.........whoooosh!!!trains coming.got your ticket?
I own an xbox 360 and a PS3 and after seeing the big gameshows this year, I feel that the PS3 has the advantage. PS3 has a games lineup which is more than what nintendo and microsoft have combined. PS3 has 15 exclusive games coming from Sony's internal studios alone this year, And then you have PlayStation Home which in my opinion is set to kick xbox live through hell. It's rumored another price drop will happen before christmas which is always good and then we have some killer exclusives to look forward to like KILLZONE2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Heavenly Sword, Final Fantasy XIII, Haze, Unreal Tournament 3, The Getaway 3, Lair, Uncharted... The list goes on and on. xbox 360 is the most unreliable piece of **** i have ever owned, and as a result of this and the recent gameshows i have chosen PS3 as my main games platform and will buy all the multiformat games im looking forward to on PS3 not xbox 360.
I on the other hand own a 360, a ps3, and a wii, own 2 games for the ps3 now, like 16 for the 360, and 4 for the wii....My 360 hasn't broke since i purchased it at launch, my wii hasn't broke and my ps3 just sits there, I will be enjoying the wii and 360 exlusives *that far outnumber what ps3 will have within the next year* because half of the good games aren't gonna be released for ps3 till end of 2008/2009.
Once investor begin to invest billiobs into sony computer enrtainment division. thats it its over. it gets evrrything.
i kinda get the feeling that guy who wrote the article forgot that there are 140 millionen people out there that bought a xbox and a playstation 2... those people already proved they wanna play games with the already existing controllers.
i dont really see the problem in getting those 140 million to buy a playstation 3, and thats what sony is trying. but this time, microsoft is a bigger competitor than it was in the last generation, and nintendo may catch some of those 140 million people, but sooner or later most of those will buy one of the other next-gen consoles.
If I were MS or Sony I would not change their strategy. The Wii is selling well. I have one, but I have a 360 and PS3. IMO, right now the Will appeals to the mainstream, the 360 appeals to some of the mainstream and hardcore gamers, and the PS3 appealed to the hardcore gamers before the price drop. As killer-ap games are published and the prices drop the Wii will lose it steam. I hope all systems do well it's good for the consumer.
An actual Nintendo fanboy article bashing Sony!! You don't see that on here too often. Very entertaining.
Gamecube was for kids (regardless of the software).
Wii is for kids & parties.
360 & PS3 are for gamers.
Apparently what you don't understand is that kids are gamers, too. Sony and Microsoft, in their collective arrogance, have ignored kids and casual gamers. Nintendo took the game to those markets and they're raking in huge profits.
MS has NOT ignored casual gamers. Heard of XBLA?? And Sony is doing similar things too.
But in your theory; kids ride bikes. Does that make them bikers??
Kids (in general) aren't 'gamers' in the sense of the word as a hobby.
But you're correct - Nintendo is raking in the money. While most game devs strived for better graphics, they forgot about fun. Nintendo reminds us that games should be fun. Competition is good.
I don't see how Wii could be "for kids" if over 50% of Wii-owners are adults.
Read: Kids & parties.
Heard of Dave & Busters? That's what the Wii is-a home version of D&Bs for adults (parties).
Ah OK, so the PS3 and 360 are for kids and solo gaming. Got it.
Because the modern gamer doesn't get the fact that over 60% of gamers are kids, they can deny it, but adults grow out of games much more often then kids do, Which is why most gamers are children and why the industry is that of a toy, No matter what microsoft and sony do to make their systems seem like computers, or media centers, simple fact kids want to play games, and most adults are buying said games for kids.
.. Promote a new deal for 360 owners... Trade in your ROD affected consoles and get $200 off a PS3. They'd take 30% of Microsofts customers!!
They should stop talking about it and just release some games. Don't tell me what's coming. I know what's coming. I'm just sick of waiting.
What's so sad is that "hardcore" gamers are just as arrogant as Microsoft and Sony. Spouting off crap about how Nintendo is for kids and how it has no games. Sony hasn't exactly delivered on games, either. And Nintendo has some good titles on the way.
The arrogant "hardcore" among us need to give credit where it is due. If Nintendo never sells another Wii they've already made their fortune from it. But demand is still high, so they'll sell millions more. That's just how it is. The other guys need to take a lesson.
i dont really care about the ps3 but i am interested in the blueray player, but i think even though it is winning the format war, downloadable content will take its place possible depending on size/cost of massive hard drives to store downloadable content. how many gigs is a high def movie?
just like it did with ps2, http://www.1up.com/do/featu... but (the article is old)so ps3 took care of 1 things from 10 why it won't succed like ps2, and that's format war, the same thing happened to ps1 and ps2, though the psx is dead, but still.
i believe 360 will be a dreamcast for microsoft, http://www.1up.com/do/featu...
Hell, sometimes even same developers.
Sony should continue to push blu-ray... be more aggresive with the format war... though blu-ray is winning... it needs to be declared the winner relatively sooner than later. Blu-ray taking so long to be adopted by the mass market can have a negative impact on the PS3 due to price. Sony should also push HD TV adoption since the PS3 without an HD TV is pretty much not worth the price tag...
i think sony has already lost....unless they come up with a ps 2.5 have a psremote and pschuck and make billions of minipartygames...killzone party (anyone???)
i still wouldn buy that shyt...though
your first link is not pulling up. on your 2nd link u fail to mention why 1up thinks the 360 won't go the way of the dreamcast. Just thought I'd put that out there. Also I think all consoles will thrive. At the time of dreamcast playstation and 64 console gaming was still a realtivly new market. All u had was hardcore gamers. Think about it when dreamcast came out the majority of gamers didn't have jobs. we were all kids, now we have jobs, still play games, and have kids who play games, so the market is considerably bigger than what it was during the age of dreamcast, ps1, etc,. There's enough room for us all. Sony will be just fine, but so will the 360 and wii.
I think Sony has already taken BABY STEPS towards that with "Home". Right now people will dismiss it as another second life clone with no ramification to gaming but that is what people said about myspace when it first came out. I'm not going to say this will make te PS3 sell like hot cakes but if this thing becomes another social phenomenon than people will have to look at it very seriously. The future is all about connectivity and user generated experiences which is now being called Web 2.0 and Gaming 3.0 respectively. Home could become a bigger success than SL because PS3 is uniform platform where everyone has the same hardware so you can get much deeper and richer enviroments and interactions. Second Life's biggest flaw is that it's based on a open platform the PC in which not everyone has a computer equipped with advanced graphics chips. SL is based on now outdated technology and graphics which cannot find the lowestr common factor in all users to make a more streamlined interface.
A price drop maybe around the holiday season and boom! they will be on top yet again and keep and PS2 alive as much a possible people buying PS2's for $129 right now are going to eventually buy a PS3 in the future for about the same price.
Much like when the original PS1 started shipping with the dual shock, the PS2 slim will start shipping with a wiimote type of controller and sell for $99 this holiday season. Sony is trying to keep pace with nintendo while also saying they are the cheapest on the block with the most games.
Consumers who have yet to have gotten a ps2 (who hasn't gotten one by now???) will look at it and the library of games and be told it does motion controlling like the wii. They will buy it and sony will sell thousands more of the ps2 while hurting the sales of the ps3 in the process.
Sony's competition isnt nintendo or MS. It is themselves. The longer they continue to milk that system the longer it will take for gamers and developers to adopt the newer system. It is the early 90's all over again. In case some of you don't remember....Nintendo was milking the classic NES like crazy and sales of the SNES were low but they had to keep up development because Sega and the Genesis were on the move up the ladder and were in the same place MS is today. First in next gen overall sales but it got beat out (eventually) by the SNES.
360 may have the most sold but it won't last for long. I think MS should be playing the low under the radar card and work out a similar approach to the wiimote. So while Sony and nintendo get all the press, MS quietly release a controller with the best of both sony and nintendo's and makes it retroactive to the existing library of games. Packages it with every 360 unit sold and it doesn't become an after thought but a standard. Just like the dual shock did at the beginning of my post.
