PlayTV PS3 Review

TheGamerAccess Writes: PlayTV for the Playstation 3 has been out for a while now and so a lot of the issues it previously had have been fixed. Because of this, I decided to review it. I have been using it for several months now and I would say that overall, I'm pretty happy that I purchased it.

Sucks how you can't record more than 1 show at once

Name one other PVR for 40 quid that you can buy and will record more than one channel.

These are really good. lent mine to my mate until they come out with Version 2 with the HD channels.

Also in the UK it only Upscales as they use different HD than playTV has in it.

to be fair, shouldn't the price also include the price of the PS3 itself for your comparison. Granted, if you already own a PS3, it will only cost you 40, but you still need a PS3 to operate it.

Other PVRs are stand alone.

then that's a moot argument because if you really just wanted a pvr, go get a standalone one then. The PlayTV is just an optional equipment. If you're gonna compare a PS3+PlayTV vs PVR, then can your PVR play games, blu-ray, youtube, rent movies, and stream media files? Like I said. A moot argument. You're comparing the 'full' prices of two devices and their entire capabilities, instead of comparing two different devices for their specific purposes. Like apples and oranges.

What I find funny is that you're the one who posted the video and said you could record 2 programs at once in the video, and yet you're here saying it sucks that you can only record 1.

Color me confused.

You can't recored video gameplay? How do you not include this in your product do you not want to make money? Booo!

Great idea. I would love an ATSC version for the states to record OTA HDTV. Only drawback is front USB ports.

Until it gets stateside with ATSC and a rear USB Model (PS3 refresh?), I'll stick to Windows Media Center. XBox is an extender and PS3 can stream the new WTV recording format natively.

that would be pretty awesome.

It sure does, that's one of the biggest selling points. Being able to access playTV anywhere in the world via a WIFI spot, settings shows to record or watch already recorded programmes without even being near your PS£.it's great. :)

Yep... and right there's the reason it > a DVR then. If you got the facilities to set that up anyway. Hell I'd buy a PSP just for that... just sold my GO, might buy PlayTV and a 3000.

PS: Thanks for answering.
