Sony has revealed its "surprise" over Microsoft's casual launch line-up for Kinect.
I think it surprised everyone.
did it ? I think i would have been more surprised if Microsoft came out with a bunch of hardcore games for kinect we all knew this was there attempt to capture a piece of the causal market ?
but what about Skittles
no micro said it was for harcore gamers too, did you see any support for the hardcore?
The best video from E3: http://www.youtube.com/watc...
Yeah, the Same WTF! kind of Surprise we all get, no-1 would ever thought MS was going to that root...
@jjohan35 No doubt. That dude really knows how to get down. LOL.
What surprised me was that MS didn't show or announce at least one Hardcore Kinect title in their E3 Keynote. The only kinect title that I thought would go great with the hardcore audience was Children of Eden. Even MS agreed that they should have shown this game during their Keynote. The game looks awesome though, I just wonder how it'll work with the PS Move.
well.. most of the Sony games for PSEye were casual. so Sony knows there's only so much one can do with camera. so hey! it's great that we can play hard core games with Move. good 'move' sony. i'll be buying a couple.
@marius - What about Skittles?
Sony is liiiikeee http://i137.photobucket.com...
M$ said well before E3 that Natal would focus on casual gaming first. I was not surprised by this.
That video reminds me of those claptraps in Borderlands.
http://www.nintendolife.com... ROFLMAO xD
I like the way Tiger Woods is right behind him with that... "I hope I don't have to demo my game with that thing" look on his face.
that MS actually took the Kinect route and not went more the Wii route like Sony, what Kinect had to offer was like a given from day 1 as I own a eyetoy already and know what the technology can do and its limits. Only casual party games can come from camera-type motion controls.
"ROFLMAO xD" That is exactly what I did!
Bubbles for that. Classic.
It didn't surprise me. It was pretty obvious that they wanted a piece of the Wii pie.
One guys makes this comment and the title says "Sony" as if the guy speaks for the entire company.
he is speaking for the entire MS company. Double Standard much.
I have never said "when Greenberg says something he is speaking for the entire MS company." So I would appreciate it if you didn't imply that BS. To be honest with you, people on this site take almost anything they read (Especially negative stuff about MS) as truth. So to answer your question of "Double Standard much" I say..."Head up your ass much?"
Never understood why someone takes something that some fanboy said at one time and applies it to a stranger he doesn't know! You always think that they must have stalked his comment history; but no, it is always just a comment tagged to a person who likely never said that!
"Sony worldwide studios boss Shuhei Yoshida" - If he's not the voice of Sony, then I don't know who else IS!
The Move surprised me more than Kinect because the PS Move will be supported by mutliplatform games (Dead Space 2, RUSE, NBA 2K11, etc.).
That's the thing : Move is supported in REAL games like Socom, Killzone, RE5 or NBA 2K11... Kinect is mostly a toy for casual shovelware and party games until now...
@R2D2 I think they did read it, as they're saying the casual /family-friendly games are not real games. And many agree seeing as MS only showed casual games during E3 and not anything hardcore / real games like shooters, sports games, action, or adventure games. Move on the other hand will have a hand in casual and hardcore games, and that was shown.
It was surprising that MS never showed a single game coming out at launch that "wowed" anybody and made them think I really wan Kinect for that game.
because the KINECT is outselling the MOVE, and the reason for that is it's Second coming of Jesus level marketing which has already started hot off the heels of E32010. I agree. their was nothing at the kinect event that made me want to rush out and buy it and having tested it my self it still needs work, but It just proves that Sony isn't pouring in the ammount of money to market what many would call a better solution to MCgaming. MS has it's hands on this industry. and the casuals are all hyped about it. Just walk into gamestop and observe how the marketing is working. the guys at the counter talk about it and the people interested light up like a lamp hearing it.
It has more to do with appeal. Kinect is selling its self because the casuals see it as simple, different and fun. The move does not have the same effect because it gives the first impression of being like the wii. That gives Sony the challenge of trying to convince casuals that Move is not just a copy of wii (Good luck with that). For the hardcore, all they need to do is show hardcore gameplay. For casuals, they need better casual game than the wii. M$ is sitting pretty right now, unless Sony can use the PS-eye to make some Kinect centric games that show the casuals that they can do what kinect can and more. That is the only way I see Sony offsetting Kinect.
@Sevir Justin Bieber. That is all.
they didn't just showed up at E3 with just the red balls game! although most of the things being showed for Kinect at E3 were pre-recorded or acted (fake light saber duel & skittles being the most obvious of all) but things to come are yet to be seen. I respect M$ as a worthy rival for Sony and Ninty and expect them to come out with something to our surprise later. not hoping much but I think M$ can do better with Kinect than what already shown. afterall, competition is good for the industry and it's sad to see if any of the company available now crumbles just like that.
I like the tech, but like I said long before E3 I'm not buying into Kinect until it offers some games I'm interested in....I really do want it for dashboard navigation but again I'll wait for a hardcore game. For now it seems micro has the launch lineup aimed directly at casuals. Thats fine, theres plenty of stuff coming for the usual 360 fanbase, Crackdown will hold me over until Reach and Gears3 looks like it will raise the bar yet again. Micro is smart they know casuals will love stuff like Kinectimals, Dance games, and exercise stuff, look at the wii and they want to first go after that market. I do think at some point there will be plenty of hardcore titles with Kinect support. It will be interesting to see what they do with Star Wars. JOY
it surprised this cat as well
Lol at this fud in response to Kinect's popullarity/interest/demand-36 0S- Kinect
LOL at your DP ^^ And to me both Kinect and Move will suprise me.
Yah, i figured they had at least one game use Natal in a way that we never thought of before? I always knew it would make for a great dancing game or fitness game. But never did I think that it would be a platform for microsoft to make shoddy casual games? I figured Fable 3 would really do something cool with it, but I guess I was right the first time? Natal is just a gimmick, and just proves that 99% of the media are a bunch of fagot fanboys who love to hype games with no logic behind what they believe or want. I remember watching the E3 when Natal was first announced, I was like, wtf is everyone freakin out for? They didn't even show any games besides that ridiculous paint game (wanna make an elephant with real pillows anyone?) and a bunch of prerended and scripted vids with people playing supposed Natal games, that Im pretty sure was just of games that don't even exist or worked in the first place. But then I seen the PSmove and what it could do, the tech behind it, how precise it was, and they were actually demoing it there right in front of everyone. Noone in the gaming media was even hyped for it, even though the guy took the sword and was scratching the skeletons chin with his sword, or the laser whipe, ball n chain, everything it had to offer. I was like , ZoMG!. Which is why since then I gave up on the media. There are a few gaming sites that I listen to their podcast cause their some good people, but everyone has different views and taste in gaming, but one thing I learned for sure through all this is dont go by what anyone says about a game till you see or played it for yourself. And unless u see actual gameplay, dont believe that natal can do what MS says it can do. I heard that you cant even sit down and use it like they been showing in the vids. MS is hoaxing everyone, but im not gonna be a statistic. Yall go ahead and knock your own socks off.
while i couldnt care less about kinect at this point in time it baffles me that you think move is going to something nintendo aint already done...it even looks like a bloody wiimote!..matter of fact..get of that fizzy fanboy flavoured cool aid. Edit:on topic. MS suprised me with kinect by underwhelming me. i was expecting MS to really show and prove...they gave me nothing..i mean c`mon man..kinectimals!?
Yeah you did miss something... all the articles that rave about the precision of Move compared to the Wii. That precision means more hardcore titles are possible. No Kool-Aid needed.
PS Move >>> wii because : 1) Move has core games like Socom, Killzone, RE5 or Heavy Rain, Wii doesn't have those core games 2) It's more precise 3) You can do augmented reality and 1:1 due to the camera, not with the Wii 4) games are in HD on PS3 with Move, not on Wii It's superior to the Wii in every way.
You really did miss alot. I will forgive you for assuming that move is just a wii knock off. Move is uber precise with a 1:1 ratio allowing precision just not possible on the wii.. Move utilizes the playstation eye which allows for depth of field and tells the game exactly where you are in 3d space instead of just detecting basic movement. Inside of the move wand are accelerometers and gyroscopes that also detect rotation and orientation of your hand and wrist, all of this combined lends to some exciting possiblities with move.. Moreso move can be used while sitting and isn't restricted to 2 players. All in all move strikes a perfect balance between the wii and kinect allowing gamers of all types to take advantage of move.. Another example of sony innovation at its best...
I hear what you guys are saying but motion controls still havent convinced yet. I was atleast quietley optimistic for them before E3..but the cats out the bag.And i dont like what i see from either. id still rather play KZ(or any FPS for that matter) with a controller.Has any body played KZ/socom with move to co-sign its usefulness in these kinds of games? Granted, sony have shown more that would apeal to core gamers but...im just not convinced.Im more impressed with all the 3d shenanigans sony has been getting up to.
Just a side-note: Its actually Kool-Aid...
I understand where your reservation comes from given the unfulfilled promises of the wii. But I watched a video in which an editor at ign played socom 4 with move, before playing he expressed how uninterested he was in move, but after raved at how precise and natural it feels.. Thats why I am excited for move, I think we all yearn for "mouse-like" precision on our consoles and I believe that move is the answer. Fingers crossed that it's as precise and functional as its advertised to be... Besides sorcery just looks cool.. lol
I'm with you man. Sold my 360 and bought a gaming laptop. Pc and ps3 is all I need. I don't fall for BS. I am buying the move though for Sorcery, Socom 4 and Killzone 3 and Heavy Rain.
yeah I agree, PC/PS3 combo for the win. MS = bullshit PR, lies, paying for online, 12 year old retards screaming racist insults on Live, stupid generic FPS, no exclusive, Kinect Eyetoy ripoff casual shovelware... Sony delivers.
"I don't fall for BS. I am buying the move though for Sorcery, Socom 4 and Killzone 3 and Heavy Rain" Seems to me like you're about to fall for BS. lol! You and krisprolls should go on a date. Both brain dead Sony lovers! The perfect match! AWWWWWWW! May i suggest you both bring the glowing precision dildo stick to the party?
Move probably won't do too well with hardcore gamers either, unless the games have a special "move" oriented control set. But many hardcore games already map out onto every friggin button on either 360 or PS3's controller, so you're going to be missing some functions. Kinect could be awesome, since it recognizes gestures. Like holstering to switch weapons or any other function that normally gets its own button. Kinect PLUS Move would be VERY AWESOME, one tracks your movement and the other tracks your aim!
move tracks both movement and your aim! your point being? pew-pew!
Sorcery and Socom 4 are gonna be fuckin BEASTLY! I can't say the same for KZ3 and Heavy Rain as I haven't played/nor seen footage of them using Move.
"Yah, i figured they had at least one game use Natal in a way that we never thought of before? I always knew it would make for a great dancing game or fitness game. From now on, I will only read article and visit site that are PS3 and Move centric. All the other sites are a bunch of M$ loving MF's. Yep, I have now seen the light and will cacel my pre-order of Kinect, as I was duped by M$ and the media, who brain washed me into thinking I would enjoy playing with Kinect. M$ just wants to sell these things to make some quick bucks, so they lie to us, then leave us with $150 webcam that that could not do half of what they said it would. Why do I even bother listening to M$ and the bias media. Shame one me. Now I know the truth. The "Truth" has spoken, and my mind is finally free!!! Thank you mighty one. Thank You!
I agree E3 09 left me scratching my head as to why no one saw the potential of move's accuracy and percision, yet everyone was on the Natal PR videp footage as if it was an actual representation of what you can do with the camera. 1 year later , all the hardcore types of titles from that vid are gone and the name change equal a change of MS audience focus. While move's potential is starting to be realized for the Core gamer. Im not a heavy motion supporter but of all the options available Sony's offering looks like it would fit my gaming tastes the most.
i honestly thought it may have been more than a high def eyetoy but from what iv seen that is exactly what it is, oh well, at least my kids will have fun.
I was pretty surprised. I was expecting Rare to be the front runners and have hardcore + casual games at launch to show that they can be done. Gonna have to wait a bit before we start seeing decent software for it.
You will probably be waiting for quite some time. If microsoft doesnt have anything in the vain of core games come out by christmas I have a feeling kinect will fail just as hd-dvd before it did.
already said they're working on a hardcore game for it for late 11 or early 12
wait waitttt for E3. ;)
PS3 2006...God of War 3 2009...Gran Turismo 5 2010. Boy, Sony doesn't know anything about waiting LOL.
His point was that many 360 gamers where saying that MS would wow us with hardcore Kinect titles. That MS was holding back a lot of info about it's plans for the next year that would leave no doubt that MS was getting back in touch with it's Hardcore roots. Of coarse, nobody expected them to jump out in space ponchos.
exactly, Plus MS was promising a large line up of new core exclusives to be announced for the 360 (not natal)at E3... that didn't happen either. :/
I knew they were going casual with Kinect, because that is where they said they were going to focus. Yet, I did think they would show something that would be focused at keeping the hardcore interested in Kinect. I know that MS has not figure out how best to implement a lot of the stuff they have shown, and have not finalized how and when they want developers to do the controller plus Kinect thing. The R&D is going to go on for a while, but I believe we will see different pieces revealed as these conferences in Germany and Japan come off. Before they hit store shelves in November, there will show some hardcore stuff. Fable will have something and Ghost will, but there will be others. M$ is trying not to show stuff before they are ready. They are trying to do stuff that has never been done before and do it well. That is not easy. Sony has a controller that can point and also has the wii for reference. M$ is inventing a wheel. One that has not been seen before.
Hardly surprising. Natal/ Kinect was targeted at casual gamers. Inspired by and an attempt to one-up on the success of Wii. Not saying it will succeed though.
Stick with a Wii. Although i'm not a 'casual' gamer, Nintendo will never be beaten on 'fun, casual, family' gaming.
The only surprise to me was that MS is still having to use pre-recorded videos with live actors trying to make it look like they are playing in real time. As for the casual lineup, no one should be surprised. Both Kinect and Move are aimed at bringing in some of the Wii crowd, so both will have casual Wii-type games. The difference is, Move has waaay more potential to be used for both casual and hardcore games.
Admit it, you're just jealous that they have locked up Skittles exclusively. Who wouldn't want to tickle Skittles? He's just so playful and cute.
although i wasnt surprised that it was casual, they had teased it last year when they called it Natal I dont know if this is going to be a hit or not but I do know that those games wont beat the games the Wii has!
I guess ms strategy could have went either way. They could have went with delivering an experience far more substantial and hardcore than the wii or they could have tried to beat them at their own casual game. Guess they went with the latter.
The whole kinect thing, milo, skittles all seems rather sinister.
