Would Final Fantasy XIII Sold Better In The West Had It Remained A PS3 Exclusive?

Most gamers who viewed E3 2008 will surely remember the moment Wada stepped on the stage at Microsoft’s presser and announced that Final Fantasy XIII would no longer be a PS3 exclusive, but would also be available on the Xbox 360. And because of that announcement, the media concluded that Microsoft won the event hands down.

FF13 has sold so far 1.5 million in the West on the 360, and 2.3 million on the PS3 in the West.

How can anybody with minimal intelligence believe a single second that it would miraculously sell better by taking away a platform...
Moreover its obvious multiplat helped the sales A LOT http://www.joystiq.com/2010...

And this "journalist" cant even get his facts right "Since its released, Final Fantasy XIII has sold just over 1.5 million copies in the west" It has sold more than 3 million all together in the West.

Just shows that SE know very well that ok FF is a divinity in Japan but at the end of the day the majority of the sales come from EU+USA. Japan is just too small a market to compete. I mean even the UK alone is a bigger market than Japan for videogames, now add France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Scandinavia and eastern EU countries.. Seeing the handhold MS has in the USA and the UK, SE could not afford to stay PS3 exclusive in the West.

Secondly, nobody held off buying FF13 because it's multiplat, even the hardcore to the deathbed Sony fanboys got it anyway.

Damn even this guy bought FF13! http://www.youtube.com/watc... :D

cold i dislike you your an annoying fanboy in my opinion (sorry)
but i agree with you on the matter

1.5million is way more than the 600k i originally thought
how can anyone with the slightest brain activity even for a second believe it would have sold better by taking away that 1.5 million

EYEamNUMBER12633d ago (Edited 2633d ago )

no it wouldn't that makes no sense no matter how you try to spin it

i don't see how it being ps3 exclusive would have made it sell better than having it on 2 CONSOLES
im not sure on the exact number sold but im pretty sure the 360 version has already sold over 600k

how does getting rid of that make the games sales better?
geez get real now anyone who disagrees is blind or delusional

This is my opinion.

I thought the possibilities IF Final Fantasy XIII still a PS3 exclusive.

Maybe, just maybe, Square-Enix would truly harness the PS3 power, use the full advantage of the Blu-Ray, the Cell processor, etc.

So all the complaints about the true final full game of Final Fantasy XIII would reduced.

Maybe it would have towns.

Maybe it's not that linear.

Maybe it would support dual-language.

Maybe it wouldn't get delayed.

whoever bought ff13 bought it because they wanted the game
it MAYBE having more (insert name here) didn't and doesn't affect the sales of the game

final fantasy sold because it is final fantasy so in the end it MAYBE having more (insert name here) wouldn't affect sales in the long run
yeah sure maybe a few people here and there will chose not to buy it but in the long run it makes little to no difference

this game was a sub par game from the beginning it being ps3 exclusive wouldn't change that

EYEamNUMBER12633d ago (Edited 2633d ago )

really then tell me
do you have any proof or any indication whatsoever that would make you or anyone else believe this game was ever any better?
do you have any proof that this game was a better game back when it was still ps3 exclusive?
do you have any proof that this game would actually have been better as a ps3 exclusive?

my remark still stands
this game was a sub par game from the beginning

I'm not even the same league as Nostradamus predicting a "supposedly" sub-par game with it's White Engine changed into Crystal Tools.

No but it would have sold more PS3s.

Shame Sony missed out on another huge system seller for the west.

xaviertooth2633d ago

it would have sold better if it had not degraded to accomodate a subpar console.

FreeFalling2633d ago (Edited 2633d ago )

The people on this site treat the 360 as if it were the N64. Developers have said many times that the 360 and PS3 are actually fairly close in terms of hardware, yet people exaggerate things to huge extents. The difference really lies in disc space between DVD9 and Blu-Ray format which cases certain 360 games to expand discs.

Where has a developer said otherwise? If you can provide me sources where a developer actually showed that the 360 was a subpar console, then maybe I could understand.

I'm not trying to incite flames, I just want decent answers.

trounbyfire2633d ago

show me a sorce of Microsoft first party saying this can't be done on PS3. there are none for a reason.

we all know the PS3 is the more powerful so we want to see it pushed and no muliplat has done that yet. games like crysis and rage look nice but are they beyond UC2, GOW3, KZ3. UC3 we will see next year and it will look better than everything.

look at what the PS3 power did for infamous 2. the first one looked like crap but the second could be the pretties open world game to date. no to mention the effects like KZ3 which you don't see in rage or crysis.

so yes some do down play the 360s power but only be cause they have seen better

devs aint going to come out and say that one console is much better then the other. but look at the exclusives on both and make your own judgment. as far as FFX13 gos we will never know the complete truth of how it may have turned out but looking at the new screens of VS13 somthing tells me if it had remained exclusive it would have been much better and sold much more, i know at least 3 people that would have brought it but were put off by the gamer reviews from japan so played mine n decided not to buy it even tho they had all the previous ones.
