5 Games that Ruined the Wii's Reputation

Adam Allcroft writes: Because the Wii has been successful with gamer’s mums, and not gamers themselves arguably, the console hasn’t gained a cool reputation. This wasn’t helped by awkward performance by Cammie at E3, who was infamous for dying on the first Goomba. Let’s face it: verything about a console comes down to the games. One has to wonder, what were the games that guaranteed that the Wii would be shunned by the hardcore?

actually Conduit wasn't so bad..

dedicatedtogamers4660d ago

This list is terrible. You know what ruined the Wii reputation?

Wii Music. It was such a failure. Not even "teh casualz" bought it. Wii Fit is actually a sweet piece of kit and it's ignorant to say that it somehow "ruined" the Wii's reputation.

...I think it was mostly the oversaturation of shovelware.
The countless overpriced peripherals.
The lack of a hard drive.
Friend codes.
Lack of user IDs (all purchases console-locked).
Oversaturation of shovelware
Obnoxious marketing campaigns aimed SOLELY at introducing new gamers to the medium (a good thing, by iteslf, but kind of assinine when it looked like the Wii was ignored Core Gamers entirely).

And in the case of NoA, inexplicable localization choices.

And, perhaps most of all, the lack of scat-colored FPS games for those early years, when everyone in the industry thought scat-colored FPS games were the ONLY type of game any "real" gamer wanted to buy, forever earning the Wii a reputation for being the console not aimed at "real gamers."

Of course, casual gamers would never go for a platform that lacks even the basic requirements for a shooting game.

nothing else needs to be said. you've stated everything i can't stand about my system other then mario galaxy, and zelda.

Kee4660d ago

Truer words have never been spoken about the wii. Every other week you're hearing about some dancing game releasing for the wii. It's just not for the hardcore.

Xof4660d ago

To be a bit more specific, it's not necessarily that there's too much shovelware (PS2 and DS manage well with a whole lot) it's the fact that you have all of this shovelware on one hand... and then you have Nintendo's marketing campaigns focuses solely at new-gamers (the only people buying the shovelware in the first place).

And then in north America, you have the whole "there are good games for core gamers out there, but we don't want to sell them to you."

It's a situation that CANNOT be percieved as anything less than a massive "FUCK YOU!" to the whole gaming community. Even the most insufferable of Nintendo fanboys are forced to admit this, and if you've spent any time talking about a 3DS in the past 2 months online, you know Nintendo fanboys have an incredible capacity for denial.

the wii had more hardcore games than the gamecube and a better library. So they improved.

I mean nintendo and even third parties stepped up the exclusives.

I mean mario sunshine vs galaxy, super paper mario, new super mario bros

prime 1,2 vs prime trilogy, other M

melee vs brawl

windwalker vs twilight princess and skyward sword?

dk and kirby revitalized? First party hard core rpgs like xenoblade, pandoras tower, fire emblem 10 yay.

DRAGON QUEST X?

Its not even close

TheEatingVodka4660d ago

Look at the list again.. Everything you said was first party.. By Nintendo.. That's the problem

dark-hollow4660d ago

if it is a good game, who cares if it was first or third party?

hatchimatchi4660d ago

Kirby was revitalized through epic yarn? Ehhh, not quite.

As for xenoblade & pandoras tower, they aren't coming to NA, just like 'the last story' and fatal frame 4 aren't and never will.

The wii has some good first party efforts but it's by faaaarrrrr nintendo's worst home console.

N64 and GCN lacked in 3rd party efforts but their software libraries destroy the wii's.

rexbolt4659d ago

well nintendo just trade mark last story in usa sooo it might come over

zero_gamer4660d ago

The Wii is still selling like hotcakes and kicking the HD twins in the ass. How can the reputation be so bad?

Tuxedo_Mask4660d ago

This is a list of all of the Wii games I own:

Arc Rise Fantasia
Cursed Mountain
Harvest Moon: Animal Parade
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Little King's Story
Monster Hunter Tri
Muramasa The Demon Blade
No More Heroes
No More Heroes 2 Desperate Struggle
Rune Factory Frontier
Sin & Punishment Star Successor
Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom
Trauma Center Second Opinion
Trauma Center New Blood
Trauma Team

There are good games out there for the Wii and there are terrible games out there for the PS3 and the Xbox360. If you don't want to buy a bad game do some research and decide for yourself if you think you'll like a game or not. Don't blame the system for the poor work of the people who made a bad game. The Wii may have more shovelware titles than the other two systems, but that doesn't mean that people have to buy them.

GameSpot: PokePark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure Review

GameSpot writes: "PokePark Wii is a world apart from the role-playing games at the core of the Pokemon megafranchise. There are no humans and no pokeballs. In place of Pokemon battles, there are infrequent, sporty minigames. Instead of capturing and collecting Pokemon, you, as Pikachu, roam the park befriending them. This is a free-roaming Pokesafari punctuated by controller-waggling park attractions, often in the form of races or time trials. There's not a lot in it for an experienced gamer, but if hanging out with adorable Pokemon is all you ever wanted from a Wii game, look no further."
