Without sounding too anti-Activision, I'd not be surprised in the slightest. Activision is very profit-driven.

CYBERSNAKE2764d ago

Its OK if you're anti-Activision , we all are.

Megaton2764d ago

I "analyzed" this as soon as I heard EA was even thinking about it.

AntoineDcoolette2764d ago

When was EA ever thinking about charging for online play? I hope you don't mean that code thing because that's completely different from a monthly subscription!

CobraKai2764d ago

Activision would charge for the ability to use a controller if they could.

BeOneWithTheGun2764d ago (Edited 2764d ago )

Every company is but there are some out there that actually give a shit about their product and customers. Look at Media Molecule, awesome support, great product and they are letting everyone take the levels they made from the first game to LBP 2. That's called supporting your fanbase.

Activision is like those chinese factories that could give a rats ass about the end user or how jacked up the product is. As long as they get the money off the sale, they laugh all the way to the bank.

This little maneuver will splinter the players in two, those that can afford it and those who can't. M$ and now Sony with there subscription based on line will hurt it further.

Of course this would be the perfect opportunity for an up start company to walk in and steal all the COD consumers to there free multi-player experience.

In the end, they will try it and it will fail. People put up with glichers and cheaters BUT they won't pay to do it. EA, Ubisoft as well as Activision are the big pushers of this and I suspect they will change there minds when gamers " ignore " there products. It will have an negative effect on all of gaming, forcing gamers to choose one multi-player experience over others...Battlefield Vs MW2 Vs Ghost Recon. Somebody is gonna be left with no sales. Bad for them, bad for all of gaming.

rdgneoz32764d ago

"M$ and now Sony with there subscription based on line will hurt it further" - a little misleading there.

With Sony's, its optional and you can do everything you can do now (IE, you can play online now for FREE) without having to get it. The PS+ program just adds additional stuff and doesn't take away FREE online play.

But in the end, if Activision ended up doing this, everyone would be getting screwed over in the end.

Skynetone2764d ago (Edited 2764d ago )

is to give the game for free, and charge 15 euro for a years Subscription and a one day option for a euro

id probably play some mag/bc2 if it was like this

i believe mag should have been the first to do this, because on going support for this game is a real option

raztad2764d ago (Edited 2764d ago )

Dont take me wrong, but it makes a LOT of sense for ACT to have a subscription based COD multiplayer. $25/year perhaps?

It will lose some fans in the transition, but if only a 25% of the current userbase on both consoles (there are COD-junkies lets face it) pay for the service it will be an amazing source of revenue for ACT.

COD very well may end up being a multiplayer only experience, with yearly patches to add new maps, new weapons.

jjohan352764d ago (Edited 2764d ago )

However there are way too many good shooters out there. They could get away with this on Starcraft, Diablo, or WOW because the competition sorta stinks. But a shooter? They're a dime a dozen and many of them are good too. The 360 crowd has their Halo and Gears. The PS3 crowd has their Killzone and Socom. That doesn't even include a whole boatload of other exclusive and multiplat shooters.

Anon19742764d ago

That's a no brainer. There are plenty of other online shooters. Activision can go right ahead and start charging to play online. I can only speak for myself, but I'll never buy another COD game if that's the case.

Give it a shot, Activision. See what happens.

TheoreticalParticle2764d ago

That way, when the servers are glitched to hell and back, everyone who bought the game will have a legitimate counter-suit, and we'll be able to sue the pants off of them.

Greed begets greed, mofos.

Queasy2764d ago

Same. I already avoid map packs and DLC. If they move to a subscription model for online play, they can forget it. I don't know how I feel about ads or a Project 10 Dollar type plan though.

BeaArthur2764d ago

I'm on that boat. The second their games require a subscription I am not going to be buying them.

D4RkNIKON2764d ago

same here, I will not pay to play online and that's all there is to it.

BubbleSystemSuck2764d ago

this is a safe way to kill the CoD gamming on Live

Live Subscription + Activision= NO

Jsynn72764d ago

Yeah that's gonna suck. CoD is pretty big on Live. It would suck to pay twice to play CoD.

-Alpha2764d ago

Bahaha. That's not going to stop that many people who play COD on a daily basis. COD averages 500,000 players on the PS3. I cant imagine the number on the 360. Acti can easily charge for it and the numbers may decline, but the profits will be the perfect trade-off for them.

-Alpha2764d ago

Whoa why the disagrees?

People are bound to pay for CoD if they really want to, and if it comes at the sacrifice of many people not buying the product Activision would probably be content relying on a lower number of paying customers if they are going to profit like mad off of them.

halojunkie2764d ago

who the fukc has to pay to play?! oh right...

WrAiTh Sp3cTr32764d ago (Edited 2764d ago )

I still can't believe I haven't played MW2. I feel so weird...

Below: Thats what people tell me...

madmonkey02764d ago

your not really missing a lot.

Megaton2764d ago

I liked the campaign, as brief as it was (finished it in 1 sitting at a friend's house). The multiplayer is basically CoD4 with shitty maps and more flying things that can kill you. Oh, and glitches/exploits. Tons of them.

CobraKai2764d ago

I loved MW2 but only because of the single player. Wierd.

Yardie2764d ago

Really?!?

the singleplayer was crap, it was just a glossy hollywood 007 game, it lacked realism and connection to the player.

cool cole2764d ago

I haven't played it either.

04soldier2764d ago

Just kidding. But yea me and many others felt like we fell for the hype when we bought this trash.

You sir are either very smart or very lucky.
