PS3 Sales to 'Grow Significantly' in 2010, But Don't Expect Price Cut

Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter has commented on the state of hardware in 2010 and whether or not we'll see some price cuts. Following on from last fall's launch of the PS3 slim model, when Sony finally gained some real momentum, Pachter believes the PS3 will continue to see major growth this year.

"We expect PS3 sales to continue to grow significantly in 2010 (vs. 2009), as the platform faces easy comps," he noted. Consumers shouldn't expect any upcoming price cuts, however, even with the launch of Move later in the year.

ps3's are actually selling out everywhere, microsoft had a 8 million lead over ps3 wen it launched, but ps3 is only 5 million behind now.and u say ps3 isnt catching up.and its only going to get smaller especially becuz of the crazy exclusives sony are pulling out latr this year n nex year

So you remember that article when analyst's predicted ps3 would outsell 360 by 4 million units this year? Because that reduces the ps3 / 360 gap to 1 million. Or are you going to tell me they're 4 million units out with their prediction?

Like it or not, ps3 has been catching up [read: outselling] the 360 since it launched. Its only a matter of time. And if those analysts are correct, then that time is 2011.

Since the 360 slim came out, I have been able to spot Ps3 slims in several stores! I don't know if the 360 is having any effect on it, but before it was released, I could rarely find Ps3's in stock!

Will be interesting to see what happens as we move towards the holidays!

did your brain red ring for a few seconds there?

Obama2727d ago

Shaowflare, RROD doesn't exist anymore. There's only red dot of death.

raztad2727d ago

Obama man why do you have only one bubble?

bubbling you up.

BTW, There are 40+ millions (or so) of regular xboxers out, so RROD is still a problem.

OT: I think nobody it is expecting PS3 price cut, no until september next year at least. The xbox slim is having the expected initial bump after launch but it will be back to previous rates before we notice it.

emil12727d ago

they don't need price cuts. GT5, socom 4, dc universe, LBP2, sly cooper collection will be enough for this year

Jrome2727d ago

This is the point all the people going "LOL" are missing.

.
SONY cannot meet demand now @ 299.99, it would be foolish to cut price.
.
When demand slows down, then they will cut price.
.
Probably sometime in '11.

I agree, a PS3 price cut will come in time, Sony don't need one now. Sony knows how to bundle and they know when to launch major titles. GT5 and Move should keep the PS3 head to head with the 360 for the rest if the year.
