Sony Plans More PS2 Collections in the Future

While many have been hoping for PS2 backward compatibility in the newer PS3 models, Sony have taken the liberty to create PS2 collections instead. The Sly Cooper Collection was just announced at E3 as a collection of all 3 major Sly Cooper games with 3D integration and more. Because of the positive reception from consumers, Sony is looking to broaden the selection in the near future.

The story is too old to be commented.

i missed out on a lot of ps2 classics so thats great news for me :)

Cloudberry2941d ago

I still have my PS2, but old great games are quite hard to find... >_>

1. Silent Hill 2.

2. Dark Cloud 1 & 2.

3. Shadow Hearts Covenant.

4. Jak & Daxter series.

5. Ratchet & Clank series.

I'm glad Sly Cooper Collection is confirmed, so I don't have to search for them again.

I still have my ICO & Shadow Of The Colossus, so I probably wont need the Team ICO Collection just yet.

If the Team ICO collection came with 2 platinum trophies, ran at 60FPS CONSTANT, 1080P 3D and some control improvements and high quality textures at $40 would you buy it? I would, in fact you could sell ICO for more than $40

Silent Hill 2 isn't hard to find, Konami just reprinted it like two months ago.

sikbeta2941d ago

I missed a Few PS2 Games, but What I love about this is that I'll Have the Games I love in the PS2, Remastered in HD + With Trophies and in a Blu-Ray per franchise, I'll buy Day One all of em...

Sly Cooper is Day One Purchase and these are all I want:

Team Ico Collection
RE Collection
MGS Collection
Silent Hill Collection
Jak & Daxter Collection
Ratchet & Clank Collection
GTA Collection
So on....

Reibooi2941d ago

There are a lot of HD collections I would love to see but my question is if they are only gonna be Sony IP's or if Sony is going to offer other devs the chance to do HD collections of their series. Alot of the stuff people want now with the exception of a Team ICO collection wasen't done by Sony so I wonder if we ever even have a chance of seeing the stuff we want.

I would like to see MGS, Final Fantasy X-XII, Persona, Zone of the Enders, Silent Hill and a ton more but like I said none of them are Sony games so I am wondering if we will ever seem those kinds of collections.

I want Twisted Metal and Devil May Cry Collections Hellya Tat Wud Be Fun

EeJLP-2941d ago (Edited 2941d ago )

I'm down for most of the ones sikbeta listed.

Metal Gear Solid: Collection
ICO / Shadow of the Colossus: Collection
Are the main ones I'd want.

Ratchet & Clank: Collection
Grand Theft Auto: Collection
After that..

Those would be definite buys, then I'd definitely consider the following, at the very least, Used:
Resident Evil: Collection
Oddworld: Collection
I'd rebuy God of War: Collection at 1080p instead of 720p
Star Wars: Battlefront: Collection
Silent Hill: Collection
Devil May Cry: Collection
Command & Conquer: Collection
Jak & Daxter: Collection

Crash Banicoot: Collection would be a smart move by Sony to remind people of that franchise.

wicko2941d ago

Pretty sure you can play the GoW collection in 1080p.. I thought that was an advertised feature.

On top of this I'd like to see a Kingdom Hearts collection, never got a chance to play them and friends of mine have nothing but priase for them.

SaiyanFury2941d ago

All of the above selections are awesome. One pair of remakes I would love in 1080p are the two Tenchu games on PS2. They looked pretty decent on PS2 and remastered in HD would rock. I don't know maybe I'm a minority here, but I'm a lifelong Tenchu fan and would love the opportunity to rock some HD ninja goodness.

Theonik2941d ago

R&C series and Jak shouldn't be hard to find. Both are platinum games and Sony is still distributing them.

Okami with move support would be great (or would that be a port of a Wii game that was a port of a PS2 game that was........uh oh my eyes have gone crossed) ZOE collection, Resident Evil Collection (technically thats PS1 but it would be great), Devil May Cry collection, and remaster the original Killzone.

But the Holy Grail is the Team Ico collection, i predict that they will announce it once they have a solid release date for The Last Guardian.

Backwards compatability is great but a fully HD remastered classic is much better.

princejb1342941d ago

i would like a grandia collection
i love the grandia games
one of the best rpg battle system for me

lelo2play2941d ago (Edited 2941d ago )

That's it Sony... instead of releasing a firmware to play PS2 games in the PS3... milk the PS2 games for another sale to PS3 gamers.

DigitalHorror812941d ago

I would almost SWEAR to you---the PS3 Slim can play PS2 games blindfolded. Come on, Sony. You could KILL the competition, and this would be a great way to do it.

DaTruth2941d ago (Edited 2941d ago )

It's your perrogative if you want to buy re-releases of games you already own; but I want games I missed from PS2 and in the best quality they can provide me with.

I had a BC PS3 and hardly played my old PS2 games(PS2 BC is actually the thing I miss least about my 60gig except "Other OS"); I want new PS2 games I haven't played and could care less about BC!

cranium2940d ago

I have a BC PS3, but I'd still buy some of these collections, provided I haven't played them before (KH collection and PoP collection being the main ones I want.)

DigitalAnalog2941d ago

They've already made the Sly Cooper series even though I'm sure it wasn't brought up as big as the ICO collection or MGS collection.

Obviously, the franchise is to hype up their upcoming game Infamous 2. And by pulling out and HD remake (despite the fact that there was no publicity about it) from that alone gives me even more hope that ICO and SOTC remake is coming soon.

-End statement

RumbleFish2941d ago

For me MSG 1,2 and 3 running on that MGS 4 engine would be the only collection of interest.

BattleAxe2941d ago

I just want the Metal Gear Solid Collection, then I'll be happy :)

vhero2940d ago

Seems this is the preferred way for Sony.. HD graphics and trophy support however the only problem with this is we only get Sony games..
