Gaming Today reports on the sad news of Theresa Duncan's suicide. She was the creator of Games for Girls and was well known in gaming circles.
Sad. Suicide is never the answer.
I wager she's burning in hell right now for this offence to God. Truly tragic. :(
Oh shut the hell up, religion is the reason why war happens
"I wager she's burning in hell right now for this offence to God. " isn't gambling an offense to God? I guess you'll be burning in hell
What a wuss. Suicide is for quitters. Yeah, I know, it is a sad story but I have always viewed suicide as something people do when they just give up because they are not strong enough to handle life.
Thats a good way of putting it
being from a religious home. lets just not go there. but even though i dont know her. this is sad just to hear somebody do that. i guess it just goes 2 show that even when making money. money doesnt give happiness. i just realized something. heavyweight. the way u make that comment starting off with a laugh is not good in anyway at all. idk if ur tryna be sarcastic but either way, death is not funny
I believe it is wrong and she should not have done it. Check my first post. Btw I'm not making fun.
Heavyweight, I was thinking about the movie Goodfellas recently and after I saw your icon today I went and bought it along with Casino on half.com :)
the burning in hell comment is a little harsh. I know a lot about depression.. I've spent most of my life depressed actually..perhaps life for her on earth was hell, so to people who think life is hell, why would it matter where they go? Suicide is definitely not the answer, but you have to have a little empathy for people who think that it's their final resort.
God schmod. Whatever. Everyone has their beliefs I guess.
Good choices! Two of the worlds greatest movies!
just wondering. i know its n4g but still, since were on topic
Have you heard of the delta t argument? It has lots of implications, but I'll concentrate on religions. The delta t argument is basically an extension of the Copernican principle and states that there's no reason to think we're living at a time that is more special than any other time. For example, if you believe christians are right in their beliefs, then the tens of billions of people that lived before judeo-christian culture would be heretics as well as the tens or hundreds of billions of people who live in the post-christian era that is bound to take place. Because of that and many other things, I tend to base my world view in facts rather then beliefs and facts don't point to life after death. Religions as memes evolve in a similar way to animal species. When a more vigorously spreading belief system/meme compared to the previous is formed, it will start eating away the popularity of other religions. Islam is currently the fastest spreading religion. The next might be the Flying Spaghetti Monster religion or the U-book religion. To counter those religions, christianity will undoubtedly continue to evolve in different directions. Because of the competition, there has never been an unchanging belief system and because of that, there has never been or never will be unchanging "truths". I hope there's enough food for thought for you to think these things in a fresh light. I've come to the conclusion that although developed by humans, religions are like viruses, memes that are able to spread because they take advantage of the weaknesses of living beings. Religions exist purely because there's a psychological niche for them.
@Rute That may have been the most thoughtful and intelligent post I've ever read about religion, especially on a gaming site. Bubbles for you! Although, IMHO, I see the effects of religion as incidental. They usually arise in absence of other elements; elements like education, wealth and above all knowledge. Religion is the philosophy that fills the vacuum between enlightenment and delusion; an explaination for the un-resolved. Put differently; when a human mind becomes busy trying to define what it fails to comprehend it gets self-destructive. It begins to make illogical conclusions that has its roots in belief and imagination, and not in reality. Thus can it not be counter-argumented and those that obey its laws therefore refuse to accept any other input that stands in contradiction to their own perceptions. Knowledge and reason, its the only way we're gonna get along.
Life is a gift. Sometimes people need help and it just isn't there. It is truly sad bc suicide stories are very common these days. It is sad that some people think there is no other alternative. My prayers go out to her family.
Wow, that sucks... I have never even heard of her, but it is still sad. I can already hear Jack Thompson saying it was the games.
Sadly, I can see him saying something too if he were to stumble across this news. For a gifted lawyer, he could really be helping society instead of trying to destroy it.
Her blog is very strange... I can't really make out anything of her last entry. Rest in peace, nevertheless.
One thing that I hope that this does is allow us to understand that our bickering about what console is best is so trivial. It's fun to get in here and be in the middle of a Flame War every now and again, but we tend to get personal with each other sometimes. Hopefully, this puts it all in perspective on what's important. Life is important. And we're all lucky enough to be experiencing a life right now that comes with experiencing great games. N4G makes a ton of money off of the bickering that takes place between us all on this site. Let's just make sure that the N4G community understands that it's not as serious as it appears to be. We're all brothers in this next-gen race, and I'm honored to be in the middle of it with all of you... Just kidding. PS3 sucks.
now *THAT'S comedy. on topic, however, it's always sad when someone passes away, and even sadder when they take their own lives, for *WHATEVER reason. my prayers are certainly out to her family and loved ones.
well said man. The gaming industry itself can be one of high stress at times. We really do need to stay focused on what's important in life from time to time.
I'm glad people take this seriously and add their respects. Even if every user here can get away with anything they say, I'm glad nobody has said something harsh like "HAHA OWNED!" etc. It just goes to show that every person on this forum has at least a single piece of maturity inside them.
I'd better not speak my mind here...
wow, really sad. suicide is never the answer, life is such a gift, you will never get it back if you die. its good to see a more sombre thread in n4g relating to such a depressing article. kudos to you guys who take it seriously.
Damn, that girl was pretty hot. Too bad she took her own life. The world could never have enough hot chicks, its the fat ugly ones that need to go.
Sad that it had to be in this way. RIP Theresa Duncan.
Why do famouse people suicide when they got Money, women, extra time to trow eggs at people/ more money/ more women/ a good chunk of men/ did i say women? Pretty much the good life.
Her boyfriend also committed suicide according to the article. Sad.. :*(
Never heard of this lady, but thoughts are with her and her family. Sad and tragic. Have some repect people please. (apologies to those that have been respectful)
Whenever someone passes away because of age or because of a disease the relatives have a reason for the death. However, in this case, the relatives will never know the definitive reason why they [Theresa and her boyfriend] commited suicide, which makes it harder to come to terms with the loss for many people. My deepest sympathies go out to her relatives, and also the relatives of her boyfriend. By the way, bringing religion into this article by saying she should go to hell is absolutely appalling. Keep your religious attacks to yourselves. We should pay our respects not attack her and her family.
and i'm a *CHRISTIAN. but condemning someone to hell is the epitome of disrespect. yes, i believe in Heaven, and maybe a little bit in hell (what *OTHER name can you think of for Los Angeles? Hiyoh!), but it's bad form to condemned the deceased to an eternity of suffering, because she couldn't stand the cesspool of hate and lies that this world's become. i'm sure her spirit is a peace, wherever it may be (and i'm pretty sure not hell. afterall, God is all about forgiveness, right? and it's not up to us to judge *ANYONE).
