I'm hoping that Id still release the source code of Id Tech 4 for free in the future just as they did with the previous engines. With Brink coming out soon there's no sign of that just yet, but I seriously can't wait to see what the community do with the free power of the Doom 3 engine as they did with the Quake 3, Quake 2, Quake 1 and Doom engines. Imagine what people could do with that kind of power behind Doom 3, Quake 4 and Prey.

Lets hope Id have made a deal with Bethesda to distribute the source code of the engines after a certain time.

Tech 4 will go open source when Rage is released.

Won't that be a bit too soon after Brink which runs on Tech 3? I just think that Splash Damage might be a bit annoyed that their engine for Brink will be open source a couple of years after release.

Fairly sure Brink runs on Tech 4, Enemy Territory Quake Wars was on Tech 4...

As for too soon,

The plan is to release it after Rage, but with Id not being independent anymore, who knows...

My mistake, wrong number key. I meant Tech 4, Doom 3 engine.
