An Xbox is already a good tool for keeping in touch with people. Will Kinect make it an essential one?
People have been talking about things like 'video chat technology' for years, no one ever really uses it. Chat with friends while watching a movie together? Some blu-ray disks already do this (BDLive). Does anyone ever use it? Doubtful. If Microsoft's goal is to have the 360 at the centre of people's lives then fine, just make sure there are some good GAMES for the rest of us.
What are you talking about? There are tones of games coming out for the 360?! Halo reach on its own is enough to make thousands of people happy for a really long time!
Sorry, I was referring to Kinect. Although I will admit, Reach is the only game on my 360 list this year.
Like when I have to go on training or visit family. At nights I log on and chat with my brothers.
Same here. The 360 is a great way to keep in touch. Its easy and really cheap.
"An Xbox is already a good tool for keeping in touch with people." If you are a 12 year old trash talker douchebag... then its most likely a good tool for you to communicate with others like you.
"If Microsoft's goal is to have the 360 at the centre of people's lives then fine" That is their goal when the first got into gaming and still is "just make sure there are some good GAMES for the rest of us." Nope they don't care its the first part they care about, all evidence points to that
I think that the 360 has alot of potential in this area. I use the chat feature all of the time. I would find it hard to game without it now. And as far as games, I would say that we are mostly covered. Perhaps a few more AAA games, but I think that overall we have some great stuff as well as some good looking DLC on the way.
Ok, well Kinect may not have any great games...yet. That star wars one could be cool. But is Reach the only thing that you are interested in 360 wise? There are so many more!
Kinect will be successful and so will the new Windows Phone 7 with Xbox Live. I showed my 13 year kid some demos of those games and the fact you can get achievements and that's what he wants for Christmas.
I think that Kinect will be really successful. Kids are going to go crazy for those fuzzy animals and adults are going to use it for the stuff in the linked article. The chat stuff alone makes it worth it.
Poor mediocre world (especially states)
What? What does this have anything to do with the article?
Before the Wii came out, EVERYBODY was hatin' on it, sayin' it'd flop. Then it became one of the best sellin' consoles in history.
take a damn console with you that has cables, you need a TV with it, internet connection when all you need is a phone? Don't people usually have a laptop that travel all the time? Or just use your desktop? You don't need a motionless controller to chat lol.
Have to agree. If anything, a netbook is the thing to take with you. A netbook has wireless connectivity, long battery ife, inbuilt webcam for video chat and storage for all the media you collect in your travels. Plus, it's compact enough to fit in your backpack. No brainer.
When I go to strange cities, I don't spend my nights wondering the streets. I do that in the day light. I don't watch tv except for news and I don't pick-up cheap women that can give me some STD. So I prefer to have my 360 with me for gaming and chating. If you were on xbox live you could better understand the xbox gaming culture. When you are in a party you are not always chating, you only speak when you have something to share. There is also the mute button and volume control on the headset. It is not the same as using a phone.
I travel as light as possible, not lug around a huge freaking Xbox and its accessory in the luggage. Laptop and phone is enough for me. Whatever, different strokes for different folks. Although I do think that people carrying around a Xbox for chatting is a little bit crazy.
wy would you carry around your 360 everywhere you travel when a laptop is more easier and smaller. skype anybody? my ps3 can do the same thing and i would definitely not travel with it, i have always been able to video chat with up to 5 other people on ps3 using the ps eye without a headset and never has it made me say hey, think ill take this ps3 with me on this 2 day business trip so i can stay in touch with family. unless the guy is talking about MOVING somewhere and not TRAVELLING like the article says then yes i would bring myps3 with me of cousre. but a travellers dream? really?
I think you missed the point. The author isn't saying that people should bring their 360s with them for one night of travel. He is saying that when you are away for awhile you should bring your 360. It will help keep you in touch. I think its a great way to stay in touch.
i must be silly, when i want to chat with people i use my phone or send them a facebook message on my phone. the headline confused me, at first i thought they meant traveller as the politically correct term for gypsy.
