"One of the complaints about Kinect for the Xbox 360 is that Microsoft has primarily showcased casual-based games. These games have little appeal to many core Xbox 360 owners used to the likes of Halo, Mass Effect, and Call of Duty. However, the camera peripheral could be used to add functionality to traditional controller-based games according to the Xbox Director of Product Management, Aaron Greenberg."
Scans your face for some in-game REALISM? Or maybe you can now shout at your TV to navigate menus.
Maybe I lack imagination, but I don't see a lot of meaningful applications for Kinect in controller-based games.
'xbox soilder 2 behind the skip' (no reaction)
'xbox soilder 2 behind the skip'...
you shout
'xbox soilder to behind the skip!!!!' enimies notice you and kill you
microsoft fix your periheral
microsoft are telling us lies about kinect straight of the mark i wont lie i have nothhing to gain but a bubble which get taken away as soon as i get 1
just because i cant spell that well does not mean i dont have the right to want a full working product upon purchase
disagree?
oh well i've been mispelling on n4g for over a year now and nothings going to change there and i still think microsoft should give every one who buys kinect a fully working product if you disagree with this because i can't spell who is the bigger fool me or you?
Google toolbar has spellcheck.
I trust him about as far as I could throw him if he were tied to a truck.
Actions speak louder than words, Microsoft.
Do it. Until you actually do it, it means nothing to me that you say that you will.
If they do it, you will trash them for doing it.
Does the trolling ever end with you?
You sir/madame, confuse disappointment and sickness of not having promises fulfilled with trolling.
If Microsoft could stop talking out their backsides and deliver, then there would be no room to complain.
The rushed assumption that anyone who normally disagrees is bias is everything that's wrong with human mentality of today. For instance, politics get nowhere because politicians all wear tin foil hats and then hypocritically do what they accuse others of.
The question becomes are some extra game features really worth paying $150?
Or is it possible a simple webcam could have done the job?
Hello. My name is Microsoft. I just revolutionized gaming with the Kinect. I want you to buy it. And for your loyalty, I will reward you with the ability to play the games you were playing. But here's the thing. You can play them with the Kinect looking at you. That's pretty much it. You know how you can voice chat with the microphone we gave you? Well now you can buy the Kinect and it will do the same thing! I bet you're wondering how much this REVOLUTION in gaming will cost you. How much did you guess? $500? $1000? Even more? NO! You can get this incredible camera for $150!
There's bound to be other options that creative developers can come up with too.
As long as it's quick and accurate and not a frustrating experience.
Your idea for the inventory sounds great too. Just hold your hand up, open and flat, and when you want to grab/drag an item around you make a fist, they release your fist where ever you want to put it. Then you take your controller and resume playing. To me, that's more interesting than rafts and boxing games. Makes it immersive, like you are interacting with devices in the game world.
or what about instead of pushing a button, you just punch if you want to melee like in COD. (except actually make your guy punch so its also more immersive.)
There are a lot of things that could be done using both. Especially in games like GRAW. Like simply using the same hand signals for your team like you see in every war movie. The Forza demo used head tracking to check mirrors.
Greek has the right idea. There are things people more imaginative than some of those posting here could ever imagine.
When it's night time how are people suppose to play Kinect? You can't really whisper can you? "/whisper, Xbox pause, xbox play" ya know? How are you suppose to play those other games at night? You can't really jump around without pissing off your room mates if their trying to sleep or if you live with your parents or live in an apartment.
I'm just honestly curious if someone could please tell me how all this is possible? it sounds like way more of an inconvenience then it's worth.
What about if you want to play those Kinect based games? Then that voids the whole concept of the game, doesn't it?
Never has MS said Kinect would be a total replacement for the controller.
For me, additional immersion.
I can only speak for myself. I've not seen anything from MS that delivers that in the way I imagined yet.
If and when they do I will bite.
I dont like any motion controls as far as i'm concerned, but there seems to be an issue with where they want this product to go.
They went from no controller to controller. There are numerous problems with this kind of thinking. You are no longer buying a peripheral that does it all in one attempt. It now is being used to enhance an experience rather than create it.
Why would anyone pay around 150 dollars for an expensive peripheral that still requires the controller. The marginal extra game features earned will be a hard sell in terms of proving the value of such a product. This is especially true when most of the gaming will now obviously be controlled by the physcial controller.
-Hand gestures and verbal orders in games like Ghost Recon.
-Being able to speak to other players with no mic strapped to your head.
-Pull up a menu and say the name of the item you want to use.
-Transferring your facial features to your in game character model.
Still not sure if these things would be worth the price but maybe the developers will be able to think of better ways to make use of it. If they don't then I won't buy it. No big.
Would be cool as f to press keypads and whatnot using Move while playing an FPS.
Now hate some more.
Try as hard as the might to cut down Kinect, there is a reason it's #3 on Amazon and Move is 91 LOL. Their overpriced Wii copy does nothing new, costs too much, and consumers are already showing how little they care about it.
But seriously, I am not going to rip Kinect. But I question the reasoning behind wanting to be the first to own something that they talk more about what it might be able to do than what it will be able to do out of the box. If the device is integrated into games actually available in a way that's cool then that is the time to buy. Early buyers are going to be stuck playing with Skittles.
for the record move is currently useless to me as well. i see no compelling reason to buy that either.
To throw grenades
To give hand commands when you are controlling a squad
Track head movement to look around in FPS
Melee attacks
Pretty much all i can think of.
