Depends. If you want a quieter xbox, then yes. If you are running out of warranty, then yes. If you like the looks, then by all means buy it.

darthv725054d ago

it is really just a matter of personal choice. Looking at the stores you will find the elite is selling for $299 with a $50 gift card (wal-mart as an example) and 2 games (forza/odst). 120gb hdd and no wifi. Then you look at the 360S and see it has 250gb hdd and wifi and nice shiny new exterior that is cool and quiet.

For a new buyer you get more for your $$ with the elite as it comes with games and you can add wifi and a 250gb hdd at your leisure. For an existing owner it is just a matter of do you want the latest and greatest.

PS3 slim came out and there were many people on this site proclaiming they were either trading in their fatty's or getting the slim in addition to their originals. Was it worth it then to get the slim ps3 even though features were removed? If you didnt have one then most definitly as the cost had been cut along with the release. If you were an existing owner then it too was just a matter of personal choice.

I really like the new 360 and will gladly get one yet i am an existing owner and that choice is mine to decide. At some point there wont be a choice because the older units will no longer be available just like the original ps3's arent available in retail (unless used).

The question is really subjective as everyone places value on things differently.

InfectedDK5053d ago

If you just bought the PS3 from the beginning then you would not have to upgrade your console all the time from arcades to elites to slims etc.. Because of it's replaceable harddisk, build in WiFi, quite noise, Blu-ray, low failure rate and so on.. I'm sorry for bringing it up and it might be even hurtful for someone to hear the truth.. But all what this new slim offers the first PS3 did offer.. I don't feel like flamebaiting I just tell how I feel with this.

dragunrising5053d ago

I agree. The value of the new 360 S is subjective for current 360 owners. Personally, I'm not sure I'm willing to trade my Jasper 360. I know I have a solid working unit and don't want to risk buying the latest and greatest for superficial reasons.

Additionally, the heat "issue," the article mentions (regarding 360 S) is worrisome to me. My unit is already very quiet and produces little heat.

Hideo_Kojima5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

@InfectedDK no one is comparing the 360 to the PS3 why do you have the urge to do so?

On Topic:
I think if you are buying a 360 now you should definitely get the 360S simply because +$50 for an extra 130GBs and WiFi is not a bad deal.

If I buy a 360 (which I might this year) I will get a slim it looks nicer too.

If you already have a 360 don't bother with the 360S. I didn't even understand why people traded in Phat PS3s for Slims to me it seemed stupid as they both do the same things and its not like a portable device like PSP 1000 and PSP Slim&Lite.

Flamebait is not need seriously.
The article is about 360 and whether it is worth it to buy a 360S.
Not whether it was worth buying a PS3 instead of a 360.
Or whether the 360 is better than the PS3.

InfectedDK5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

Why is stating relevant facts flamebaiting?
Yes it's about the new 360 slim but how does that verify I can't mention the PS3 when it does make sense to do so on this subject.

Anyway I won't talk anymore PS3 in this article.
The 360 slim is what the first 360 should have been like in the first place, in my opinion.

littletad5053d ago

Reported as off topic. Even my ps3 crapped out. Not a system break, but the infamous "hard drive disk corrupt" happened to me. The ps3 isn't prone to failure rates. There is also the ylod.

Either way, I think upgrading to the slim is only a necessary if you need to have the latest.

PeterGriffinSays5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

120 GB, and I install every game I play on it, so the DVD never has to spin, basically avoiding RROD altogether. It is my first and only 360, and I never needed a replacement. Just gotta take care of your shyt. Also, no more faceplate fun with the Xbox 360 S, so that's a big letdown. The only thing my 360 lacks compared to the "S" series, is the integrated wireless N, but with the Xbox 360 S out, the prices on the Wireless N adapters are going to drop dramatically, so I'll just get one of those when that happens.

No Way5053d ago

It's flamebait because of two reasons..
1. There is no need mentioning of the PS3.
2. You are telling people what they did "wrong."

Neither is necessary.

I feel it's slightly optimistic of Microsoft to call it "slim" (if that's the official name?). Look at the pics, it's just a litte bit lower, not slim at all.

Majinzo5053d ago

s it possible to transfer my old hard drive content to the Slim ones?Yes, it’s possible. However, that will cost you another $20 as you will need to purchase an Xbox 360 """Migration Kit""".

MightyMark4275053d ago

I only recommend buying if the consumer doesnt have a 360 at all. If you already have a good running 360, a wifi adapter, and a hard drive, don't get it

schlanz5053d ago

If you already have one...

why would you spend that much on an "upgrade" when you could buy a PS3 or Wii.. or new speakers.. or a bunch of games.. or whatever else you can imagine...

Cevapi885053d ago

if you already have a nice set up with a previous 360 then there is no need to buy the new one....if Kinect is on your shopping list...well it has been said that it will come with its own external power supply so that it can connect to previous 360's...nobody loses out if you do or dont buy one...if you are a new buyer then its a great buy

feelintheflow5053d ago

my cable modem sits right next to my 360 and right next to my wireless router. How hard is it to have your modem close to your 360, if you have dsl you probably have a phone line at your tv anyways if you have satelite, if you have cable your cable modem can be run from right there. I thin the entire wifi argument is dumb. Its not that hard to have your modem close. Its a fanboy argument because the 360 didn't have it and the ps3 did.

Hideo_Kojima5053d ago

Who cares about WiFi? Your being very ignorant.
Obviously not you but a lot of people don't have the exact same arrangement as you do in your house.

Some have the router in the living room and the 360 in their rooms 30 ft away do you want them to drill holes and have a cable run through them?

I even bought a WiFi adapter for my desktop its not a fanboy argument some people NEED WiFi.

8thnightvolley5053d ago

dude.. not everyone's house is as small as urs and i for one hate wires hanging everywhere its so untidy.. so more wireless ...thnk you

niceguywii605053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

Best reason to upgrade out of all the hardware revisions. You get more features with the 360 Slim. I don't remember these articles about the downgraded PS3 slim.

Anyways I'm glad it's selling like hotcakes and getting all this hype. Regardless of what people say about Microsoft's E3 it is sure paying off for them when all is said and done.

AnonUser55555053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

I might have to pick one up..haven't yet owned a 360.

AnonUser55555053d ago

Infected:

You most definitely WERE flamebaiting. There's no need to talk about the PS3 here.

I'm a Sony-only user and I STILL think you were flamebaiting. Just because you say, "I don't mean to..." doesn't get you off the hook. You're like the guy who says "I don't want to be racist, but..." and then drops a racial slur.

This article is about the 360. Not the PS3. No need to list ps3 features.

In terms of "Should I/Shouldn't I" upgrade, I don't understand why you would bother assuming you already have a 360. As a non-360 owner, however, the slim makes it much more attractive to me...especially running quieter and having the wireless built in, along with the bigger HDD.

Jaces5053d ago

For existing owners sure, non owners...well like darth said it's based on preference. Me? Trading my old n' busted for the new slim. :D

8thnightvolley5053d ago

ya depends.. but i have a jasper at the moment.. thinking about upgrading coz i desperately need the extra space.. of 250 bg..that is much needed.

jjohan355053d ago

If I was a first time buyer, I'd pick up the 360 Slim. But as a current owner of 360 Elite, I find absolutely no reason to upgrade. If I want WiFi, I'd spend $100 instead of $299.

Consoldtobots5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

it depends

I spoke to my friend yesterday who told me he just picked up a 360 "slim".
I asked "what happened did your 360 break?" "no I've just had it for 3 years". Makes no sense to me as I have one working 360 and two working fat PS3s so I won't buy either of these anytime soon. I have a feeling alot of these 360 "slim" sales are from people who think just like he does.

Parapraxis5054d ago

Seems like the gaming press is insisting on calling this thing a "slim" huh lol.

Anyways, like sunnyd said, it depends on a bunch of factors.
If I were in the market for a new one I'd definitely have to way discounts vs shinyness lol

Cueil5053d ago

it's retarded... it's short not slim... it's just as fat

Sarcasm5053d ago

Yeah it's not really a Xbox 360 Slim

But an Xbox 360 Thinking About A Diet But Wears Black to Look Thinner

xoxideu5053d ago

Xbox 360 Short
and
Xbox360 Stout

darkequitus5053d ago

For me yes. I kept my Jasper elite and got rid of my RROD replacement Opus 360 (out of warranty), 2 120gb HDD, 3 spare controllers, 512mb mem card and wireless dongle. I paid the $14.95 difference.

Sarcasm5053d ago

Actually I think IT IS worth it for the following reasons.

1. Sell the current 360, let's say you have an arcade, try to get $100 out of it.
2. If you were planning on buying an HDD it comes with 250gb already.
3. If you were planning on buying the Wi-Fi N add-on which is like $150, it comes built-in anyway.
4. It looks more like a PS3
5. It probably IS more reliable, 45nm chipset and all.

jmare5053d ago

The only concern is #5. If they didn't work out the reliability issues, there is less space for airflow and it could fail faster. One would hope that Microsoft fixed everything, but who knows? We'll have to wait and see.

dalibor5053d ago

If you think about it this was MS chance to really fix the 360 rrod once and for all, a scapegoat tactic. Wonder if they have. I guess we will get a better idea later down the road.

No Way5053d ago

Don't the x360S have the sides "cut out" to allow for more air flow?

tdogchristy905053d ago

My old 360 is from 2006 so it was 4 years old and just kind of showing it's age.

gamestop promotion.

360 arcade, 20gb hdd, one controller, and the N(black) wireless adapter.

after all was said and done I payed 142 for the 360 Slim.

with every 360 they've gotten more and more reliable, plus with it's age I was worried about RROD. The quiet factor was also a major decision.

But all and all I felt like it was worth it.

Report suggests the UK is a console nation

Bit-Tech: Perhaps the biggest surprise was that the tide of console gamers is a cultural phenomenon which does not appear to cross every border. According to NPD's research, while the UK has the highest incidence of console usage out of all the markets analysed Germany boasts the biggest number of PC gamers.

France, meanwhile, is clinging on to dedicated hand-held consoles like the Nintendo 3DS and Sony PlayStation Portable at a time when NPD's analysis shows that gamers in most other nations have ditched theirs in favour of getting their portable gaming fixes on smartphones and tablets.

"when NPD's analysis shows that gamers in most other nations have ditched theirs in favour of getting their portable gaming fixes on smartphones and tablets."

you mean like japan, europe or the US where the 3ds is breaking records?

People are ditching the 3DS so fast in the US, 3ds sales have doubled over ds first year sales and the year isnt even over.

No source, no truth

who approved this garbage?

Knight_Cid4441d ago

you shouldnt be proud to approve slander

ATi_Elite4440d ago

but 250 million global online PC Gamers say other wise.

Everyone with a Gaming PC can play Wii Games so does that mean the world is a Wii Nation?

I think people just enjoy Games and it really doesn't matter the platform.

Console Nation, PC Universe, iPhone Realm, doesn't matter just enjoy your Games.

StayStatic4441d ago (Edited 4441d ago )

Considering most PC Gamers will own 1 or more consoles , declaring the UK as a "console nation" is complete and utter bollox.

kevnb4441d ago (Edited 4441d ago )

owning a console and playing the occasional game once in a blue moon doesnt make you a console gamer. Just like owning a pc and maybe playing some random flash game doesnt make you a pc gamer. Alot of pc gamers bought ps3s, its a blu-ray player and media hub that plays games.

guitar_nerd_234441d ago

I'm from the UK and game on nearly every platform I can think of.

But yes in general I'm more thumbs than fingers when It comes to my games.

Paul Christoforo to Write a Book Based on the Ocean Marketing Debacle

Remember in December of last year when Paul Christoforo became the pariah of the internet? Ocean Marketing was at the center of a scandal that took the internet by storm after Christoforo exchanged rude, angry emails with a customer of Avenge Controllers, for whom Christoforo was providing customer service. I recently had the chance to speak with Paul about the whole ordeal and what his life has been like since.

That is a very nice looking xbox 360.

gamingdroid4454d ago

That does look sick and the sound is even more awesome. Too bad the darn Xbox 360 is so expensive still.

LX-General-Kaos4454d ago

When the Wii U drops the xbox prices will take a serious nose dive. Hopefully they still have that particular one floating around retail.
