Xbox 360 capable of full stereoscopic 3D afterall?

Scott from Daily Joystick writes: "Around the internet for the last few weeks and months there has been a debate over whether the Xbox 360 is capable of producing full 'real' 3D effects that the PC has and the PS3 is soon to tout. Well, I feel that this debate can now be settled; in a press release Monday, EA announced that Crysis 2 will be available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 with full stereoscopic 3D effects."

that sure is interesting....

It looks as 360 will support 3D. You can say goodbye to seeing those Killzone vs. Crysis comparisons dying now.

Hideo_Kojima2929d ago (Edited 2929d ago )

We have known this for a while now...

But the thing is that the 3D on PS3 is made up by 2 images placed side by side that the tv cuts into 2 and displays in 3d.

The 3d on the 360 is similar but there is only 1 image which is half for the left eye and half for the right eye that is split up by the tv and displayed in 3d...

All in all 360 3D has half the max horizontal resolution that PS3 can have.

Theonik2929d ago

Yep mainly due to the 360 having HDMI 1.2.

MNicholas2929d ago

The problem with the 360 and other older consoles is that they are incapable of pumping out 3D at the quality supported only by the latest HDMI specifications.

jack who2929d ago

lol haters owned Crysis 2 3D been played on 360

GVON2929d ago (Edited 2929d ago )

it's always been possible, but as far as I know,1.2 cant do HD3D,it doesn't have the bandwidth.

mittwaffen2929d ago

3D is in babes stages..your comparing a 1 year old to a 2 year old baby.

3D will never pickup! Glasses and alot less visual clarity results.

bjornbear2929d ago

neurologically thats a BIG deal...

a 1 year old compared to a 2 year old is almost as big as a 10 year old compared to a 12 year old = BIG difference in brain function and growth

but I know what you mean, just horrible example

mittwaffen2929d ago

That was in laymen terms; in technology. Sorry, dont have many 3D metaphors laying around.

Personally it isnt a big deal, both likely can speak, walk, etc etc. Theres alot of room to grow into down the road; see what I meant, not that far off as an example.

576p confirmed

ThanatosDMC2929d ago (Edited 2929d ago )

That would suck for gamers.

fr0sty2929d ago

the real question is, since hdmi 1.4 is REQUIRED (it's the industry standard) for 3d, which tv's will be able to play this?

jack who2929d ago (Edited 2929d ago )

you ONLY need hdmi 1.4 if you want your 3d in 1080p signals or higher

krouse932929d ago

Not True.

PS3 has Version 1.3 where the Xbox 360 only has version 1.2.... And PS3 is capable of a much higher bandwidth so PS3 and other 1.3 and 1.4 HDMI Hardware devices can display true HD 3D content Xbox Can NOT.

IHateYouFanboys2929d ago

the thing youre forgetting is that the PS3 cant even do a single image in 1080p for anything other than the most basic game, so its DEFINITELY not doing 1080p 3D.

as we've already seen with anything other than arcade games like SSHD, the resolutions of the games drop a LOT when done in 3D.

fr0sty2929d ago (Edited 2929d ago )

what you guys are failing to recognize is, first of all hdmi 1.2 is locked at 60fps, so no 120fps 3d. it also cannot even do 720p in 3d, not enough bandwidth. ALSO, hdmi 1.4 tv's will not accept ANY 3d signal unless it's a hdmi 1.4 or 1.3 compatible device connected to them. that's what you call an industry standard, one that was finalized after the 360 launched. ps3 was able to have it's hdmi 1.3 port upgraded because both use the same amount of bandwidth, which is double that of hdmi 1.2.

and yes, ps3 has to downscale to do 3d in many cases, so imaging how much 360 is going to have to downscale to not only accommodate the increased resolution required for 3d (360 has a MUCH smaller frame buffer than ps3, mind you. 13mb vs. up to 256mb's), but also to be able to fit the resulting video feed through the hdmi 1.2 connection. then the tv has to be able to recognize it, which it won't because it doesn't fit the 3d hdmi standard spec.

siyrobbo2929d ago

pc was doing 3d before hdmi was even invented. 360 wont have to adhere to any set standards as it doesn't play blu rays so doesn't have to meet any specs set by the blu ray forum, unlike sony

Omega42929d ago

So much for Sony's unique selling point :)

Baka-akaB2929d ago

i'd think a 360 fanboy troll would have pointed out eons ago that Avatar , however crappy it is , was playable in 3d too

FarEastOrient2929d ago

But it didn't look good while it was playing that game, I have a 3d enabled TV myself and the frame count on 360 was to low to count the movements as fluid in 3d settings.

Anorexorcist2929d ago (Edited 2929d ago )

If it is fully possible, watch him jump aboard and all over 3D gaming for the Xbox 360 like a stack of pancakes covered in oreo cookie crust topped with sprinkles and mini cupcakes.

If it is possible on the Xbox 360, yet not quite at the quality of the PS3, watch him marginalize it again.

UnwanteDreamz2929d ago (Edited 2929d ago )

So sad MS just had its E3 keynote and you have to come downplay the PS3 lol. What's the matter buddy not enough cool stuff to brag about this year?

Oh and Sony still has a BluRay player included with its console something you wont see on XBoX evn at the same price.

bjornbear2929d ago

if you want 3D on your 360, you still need a 3D tv, and Sony have some of the best

THATS their selling point
Sony make money out of ANY console using 3D

MS doesn't.

+ Avatar : the game = 3D on all platforms

so...your point ? oh you have none =P you're just butt hurt over the mess your god has made xD

WMW2929d ago (Edited 2929d ago )

how is it bad for sony? they have more 3D games, 3D tvs and movies. did you think they would be the only ones with 3D? they are just the ones as usual to bring the industry new tech. what is really funny is like i said yesterday 360 fanboys are back tracking and are now into 3D you guys are the biggest clowns i have ever seen.
