The story you are about to read is not meant as a commentary on the game, LittleBigPlanet. Rather, it is a cautionary tale about how a PR rep's terrible mishandling of a game demo can reflect negatively on a title's potential.
y didnt he just let him play?
He should have just taken over the controls and played the game himself.
I hate it when they dod that. It was too stupid of PR not letting them play the way they can enjoy.
But what I truly hate is being asked to leave the demo session/ return the controller. I have seen those things happen in game expos and other events. Suddenly a lady and a bunch of guys from some important magazine/newspaper come in while you're playing a demo and all of a sudden you become invisible to everyone and they treat the newcomers 180 digree different than they did you.
Kudos MK_Red for the article! I hope this article tells everyone else that you're not some hater posting negative 360 articles (especially after that "360 is Dead" that you posted) and/or pro-Sony propaganda.
The worst impression that a Sony hater can get from this article is that everything else shown in July '07 E3 by Sony were nothing more than staged, elaborate hoaxes (including KZ2...which, BTW, is a common argument by Sony haters). I'm no developer and/or programmer, but it seems to my informal opinion that betas shown in E3 are prone to crashes if not properly handled. To everyone else thinking that LBP may be a staged hoax, God of War II had the same problem of potential game crash when it was first shown to journalists. In the GOWII "making of" DVD, Barlog was nervous as hell before the game was shown, fearing it would crash before the entire world. Guess what? GOWII proved to be successful and not a "staged hoax".
Don't get me wrong, I still think that what the "demo handler" did was really stupid.
ya wtf i thought LBP was BUILT for pick up and play, this ass makes it sound like it was going to take 8 hours of tutorials to learn the game. I say fire his a$$ But then their are only 18 people making the game so thats a sizable chunck gone.
next time go 2 sony first
That's not cool.
That guy should get a real talking to about how to treat customers, cause I would gone postal on that guy if he wouldn't let me play a fun ass game...
Remember guys this is a small company.
Although the guys behaviour was inexcusable it's actually very very common at these kind of events. I've never been to a gaming summit or demo but I've given these kind of demonstrations to the general public with other products - I remember countless people being put off by stressed out Demo staff and neurotic over obsession over their creation.
The guy had obviously been involved in a major part of the games design and pepole doing things that he didn't aprove of obviously distorted the ideal vision he had of the game when he thought it up one night (probs when stoned)
Over Obsessive creationalism that's all. Seriously especially with smaller companies and sole tradeders who are arrogant about what they are failing to promote in an effective manner.
Hopefully they'll learn from this incident.
"NEWS" that NOONE needs...
clearly this guy was a pu55y WTF tell the guy to shove or at least say something stop thinking and start acting
this is the most RIDICULOUS thing i`ve ever read.
this isn`t even WORTH your time, leave and read something else.
let us judge the "DEMO FROM HELL" cause so far to me its the "DEMO FROM HEAVEN"
i really hope that the devoloper from the article doesnt come with the game
"you must first learn to walk" when you turn on your ps3 would be cause for the games immediate return
(but seriously the game will be sweet)
was a complete and utter douchbag.
the game will most certainly rock, but that guy just struck me as a jerkwad game tester, who was asigned to demo the game, and got drunk on his power (i used to be a game tester, and often, at events like E3, developers don't always do the demos, as they're too busy working on the final product, so testers like us get offered the chance to show the game off, considering that we've been testing it for months on end, and know it in and out from a gameplay perspective, as most developers rarely, if ever, get the chance to *PLAY the game they're creating. not like we do).
or, this guy was just an @sshole, regardless of his job.
i wouldn't let a poor demo presentation sour your excitement for the game though. when you get the demo in your hands on the PSN this fall, you won't have this guy to ruin it for you.
what an @sshole. seriously.
And instead of coming out and say it he disables the things that would make the demo crash.
Dude should suck it up and make a more clear assessments when a fully functional demo comes out.
...was responsible for the holocaust, I still wouldn't care. The game is awesome.
of the rep but oh well. This game is a must have for me.one stupid rep WONT be the cause of me feeling any different about LBP. Looks 2 be one sweet ass game :D
I can tell you one thing I would not have wasted my time, if there is one thing I have learned in life, it's that life is short.
So if you find a butt head messing up your day, tell them there a butt munch and keep it moving, don't hold it in, don't hope it will get better. Rep's or people like that just keep being an ass wipe because no one puts them in their place.
Then once you have said your peace move on and enjoy your day, Life's too short to waste it.
LBP is a must pick up for me, I can't wait to have fun on making stuff, it looks like it will be a real shinning star for Sony. I'm really excited about being able to just run loose and Make Amazing boards. Can't Wait.
Its funny that this guy reports on how Sony PR needs help so they dont screw up this game, but as he said:
"So, have you guys played before?" the new rep inquired. He could have been from Sony but from the way he claimed LittleBigPlanet as, "my game," I guessed he was from developer Media Molecule."
He says it himself RIGHT THERE! It WASNT a PR rep from Sony, but rather an uppity Developer. Apparently so much smoke has been blown up this guys ass about how great this game is(dont get me wrong it probably will be) that HE thinks he can treat anyone however HE feels. What an asshole!
wow, that was hard to read. couldn't get through it all. and i would hardly consider one guy's supposed experience trying to demo a game as news, but w/e.
"On a side note, check out our previews for Halo Wars, Mass Effect, and Halo 3. They were my surprise favorites from Microsoft Game Studios."
Halo 3 is a "surprise"? If Halo 3 is a surprise to any game journalist out there, they should be fired and he's lucky they only took the controller away. ;)
Is he a mommy boy to tell us about he was offended by an ugly rep? =)
Once one person told his son - "Money doesnt stink" when the son tried to blame him for undeservedly earned money (One Romanian imperator made his people to pay for toilets - that had never happened in Rome before).
Yes, money doesnt stink. It is the matter of writer's reputation as a journalist....
It is obvious he was hired to show the game in a bad light by any mean he was able to get. He did. He stinks
but that game looks amazingly fun.
thats about as fun as obeying the law in GTA.
