Retrofusion's top 10 Playstation One games.

The article covers some of the best PS1 games of all time, but there are also a couple of surprises that may come as a little bit of a shock to some. Nevertheless, please do come in and possibly give some of these games a play as they are the pinnacle of gaming goodness.

Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro made up my childhood. So amazing.

Wipeout with system link was the best experience I had then. Too many classics to name: RE, GT, TR, FFVII, etc.

Back then, Sony saved the gaming industry by making games for adults.

The fact is there's too many classic PS games to note. Shyte, the sheer plethora of JRPGs are too numerous. A few are available on PSN but most have been neglected. Some of the ones I'm looking for are on the Japanese PS Store, but very few over here. Even Brave Fencer Musashi is on the Japanese store. Where the hell are the Breath of Fire games? Just thought I'd post as a PS JRPG lover.

I agree. I included 2 JRPGs, but my brief was a top 10 PS1 game list, not top 10 JRPGs. So in the interest of balance I had to make space for other games... :)

Resident Evil 2 was a great game, but I always preferred playing Resident Evil 3 and 1 over it. I think RE2's a little bit overrated.

RE1 has the best story and more memorable characters. RE3 has much more fun and advanced gameplay.

Why then is RE2 the best?

RE2 is a very very good game, but it's the weakest of one of the greatest trilogy's ever.

It's difficult to make a top 10 from such a big library, but this list is somewhat bad, only the writing is a good read.

but he also included one of the most shockingly underrated platformers of all existence: Klonoa: Door To Phantomile. Sir, I salute thee!

But he said the plot in Klonoa is not important. I think the plot in Klonoa is the best amongst the platform games to date. It's getting so tense towards the final stage, so tragic in the last boss fight and the final cutscene drove me to tears when I played the first time back in 1998.

Xenogears is way ahead and better then any Final Fantasy.

FFVI Remake is also better then FFVII

i played ff7 first b4 I played xenogears . Xenogears is a game beyond games and has yet to have its spot dethrowned from my #1 list . Best Story Ever...sadly xenosaga failed to even be half the game Xgears was . it had everthing to philosophy ,religion, politics, love, hate, revenge, drama, comedy, robots, anime, plot twist after plot twist, minigames galore, AWEsome music, open world, great combat combo system eva!!!!!!

They were brilliant, (until they went to PS2).

Carmaggedon was good fun, spent ages playing that.

Looking at this list and all the other great games that were left out, there is no denying that the original Playstation was one hell of a console and arguably the best games console to date. The Playstation was the first console I ever owned. I got it for my 9th birthday in 1998 and I instantly fell in love with games. For my 10th birthday in 1999, my main present was none other than Metal Gear Solid. The Playstation was the console that introduced me to the awesome potential of video games as a medium of entertainment. It introduced me to some of the best franchises in gaming history such as MGS, GTA, RE, Tekken, TR and FF. Oh and of course, Crash Bandicoot, when ND developed it. Here's to PS!
