Jonathan takes a look back at one of his favorite games of all time. He talk about its many flaws, and how they should be overlooked.
I even own and enjoyed Advent Children.
AND CRISIS CORE! The entire FF7 universe kicks ass. FF7 is definitely in my top 5 games of all time.
like Advent Children in public!!?! That's something you keep to yourself.
It doesn't even touch base on how incredible of a game Final Fantasy 7 WAS but that's the past, now a days the bar has been raised and it's just not that good of a game anymore. I was about 5 years old when I first played it. For me it was the first game I played that had an actual story, I could read fairly well at that point so it was easy enough to follow along and of course I got attached like a kid does to anything. That game meant more to me than any other I've played in my life. If it wasn't just the story it was the music, every song induced different emotions to every last bit of the game. That scene where Aeris gets killed, fucking devastating to a child but I'm sure it put a tear in anyone's eye if they were as into that game as I was. I put a lot of time into it and it was a big part of my life. But I can't stand playing it anymore because every bit of it is perfectly imprinted in my brain, completely unforgettable and I want it to stay in my memories. I'd rather not taint the beautiful memories of that game with the extreme boredom it brings trying to force myself to enjoy it that much anymore. There's a lot of games I feel that way about but no game has ever had such an adverse affect on my life as FF7. The only thing that's making the game suck so bad now is the fact that people keep bringing it up. Let the damn game die already, nothing will bring back how epic that game was. No one can enjoy how amazing it felt to be playing one of the most advanced games at the time, and no one can explain how much that game meant to the people who played it, loved it, and lived it, so stop trying! If you have any respect at all for the game you should just let it be, stop bringing it up because it doesn't make the game any better.
Me too, but I'm playing Crisis Core: FFVII for the first time!
Crisis Core was so damn good. I liked how different the battle style was and the back story was great.
watched it on youtube :(
Im not a big fan of turned based RPGs, and yet this is one of my favorite games ever. I still got my original copy and a very tattered strategy guide. Im kinda scared to put it in my ps3, cause I dont want the possibility of it to break with it inside(paranoid I know).
i was never a fan of these types of games, still not. but this game is special. the materia system is deep without being convoluted, the characters are great and it has a intriguing story. when sephiroth burns the town and hes walking into the flames it still looks awesome. i say bite the bullitt and dl that sucka.
I love Final Fantasy 7 and I think it is one of the best games ever made. People can pick at its flaws but I never played a game more then Final Fantasy 7. Chrono Trigger came close but 7 takes the crown. I must of replayed that game at least ten times. I even brought Advent Children on Blu-Ray and Crisis Core for PSP. If they made another Final Fantasy 7 game and it looked like a good game then it would be a day one purchase for me.
i loved the mini games, that's what kept me hooked . The golden saucer was a great place to pass time and the battle arena was a fun challenge and rewarded nicely. Same can be said of the card game in VIII, fun ,strategic and rewarding . I wish they would incorporate a multiplayer aspect of mini games into a single player experience ala tetra master from ffxi but u all can imagine what i'm saying . example --- raise a chocobo in game for quest and riding but take it to the arena to race them against others online
snowboarding and that ship submarine game.
were you're protecting the giant condor.
that actually would be cool. only mini games having MP. could make them a lot more fun, but it wouldn't completely take you out of the story and world.
I remember you could save Aerith (Aeris or whatever her name was). But the majority of us probably saw her get shanked.
Mini games were great. I just wish there wasn't a meteor in the sky; it felt out of place.
This game had everything I wanted in a RPG a deep story with twists and mystery, a deep character development, a well thought out customization system for weapons like materia, secret characters and weapons to find and hundreds of hours of gameplay to keep me busy. I remember putting like somewhere around two hundred hours in this masterpiece. This makes me want to go on PSN and buy it.
figuring out how to get Vincent was a pain without a guide lol...and the fact being I was so much younger than now with the attention span of a poodle
One of the games I actually looked forward to switching disks for...it was sorta like...Ooooooo wonder what I'm gonna get myself into on Disk 3. Legend of Dragoon was another one.
how do you still have 4 bubbles? You troll ps3 news all day. Here let me help you.
this one of those games i regretted not playing... when it was first released.. i wasnt into final fantasies. it was only after FF8 , which i fell in love with.. then FFX.... I really hope they do a hd remake for this one...
Well I played and beat the game for the first time ever this year and it was great! Graphics were really bad but if you try to play it anyway you'll see that 10 years old game it's better than more than half the Jrpg released this gen...
the ps1 games don't look half bad when you do the psp/ps3 link thing. FF8 on my widescreen HDTV looks absolutely horrid...like almost not even a game it's stretched and so pixelated. But on the PSP it's sorta like how I remember it from back in the day.
i thought there was pretty decent character building...especially the main characters build from his runaway from the past to realizing hes one huge ass liar to himself and to every1 else...i think most characters get a lil spotlight time on how they are effected by shinra and past events...some are left mysterious, like vincent valentine, which u find a lot of info about the past if you look around the game (dairies, reports, side missions). anyways i had to throw that out there...i enjoyed the cute midget sized versions of all the characters by the way! I really like FFVII, i can still pick it up and play and still get a kick out of it...they story is epic, but it does undermine the stories of FFI-FFVI, which have a lot of similarities (Story plot-wise)
I meant development as in stats. They back story I did like.
I am so sick and tired of the continuos publicizing FF7 gets as opposed to the other myriad of excellent RPGs, some MUUUUCH BETTER THAN FF7, that don't even get a 1 minute spotlight. I guess it can't be helped considering it brought RPGs into the mainstream. Worst mistake ever made. Now we got kids thinking they're hardcore gamers just cause they know who Cloud Strife is and have beaten THE most incredibly simplistic supposed BEST RPG EVER that isn't really a BEST RPG EVER. Average overused story, very low character development (hm.. i'm vincent, i hardly ever talk, and yet I'm considered to be one of the best rpg characters in history), rehashed materia system (straight from ff6). Let's also not forget the worst villain in RPG history, Sephiroth. FF7 blows, and you know what else blows? It's annoying ass fans that think it's the incarnation of christ in video game form.
theres always someone that cant just let people enjoy things. http://dansideas.files.word...
Well EXCUUUUSE me for having taste.
you act like you're above people because they enjoy somethin clearly despise.
I do not despise Final Fantasy VII, I acknowledge that it is a GOOD RPG, but not as good as a lot of people seem to think it is. I do not mind that you're not into what I'm into, that is one of what makes us different as human beings. However, I'd like you to have played most of the good RPGs to be able to assess that FF7 is THE best RPG.
to touch point on some of the stuff you mentioned. Yeah it sucks that other games don't get mention. This is just a game I really like so I decided to write about it. The fact that he doesn't talk is probably why he is my favorite character.
Obviously your a fan of Xenogears, I am too. I think it's tied with FF7 for Square's best game. It's an over used story now. When I played it the first time that was the first I ever saw of it, and even then it's a derfinitely unique in the way it unfolds. I can't recall a game where you play a lead character, and everything he knew about himself turned out to be a lie. Vincent is awesome because he's stoic, like auron from FFX. It just comes of as cool. I've played a ton of Rpg's, and it still one of my(if not the)most favorite games.
