Why’s Everyone So Upset With Greenberg?

‘Sticks and stones can break my bones but words can do me no harm’, is an old adage that’s often used to say that no matter what someone might think or say, as long as said person doesn’t hit me, I’ll be alright. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact I’d go as far as to say that words sometimes do more harm than being physically beaten.

But sometimes, certain words or statements are uttered by some important people and the reaction to said statements are totally uncalled for.

Yesterday’s utterance from Xbox 360 front man, Aaron Greenberg was of those times.

because its simple youd think someone in his position would act more professional and wouldn't be a GIANT TROLL green berg is always trolling one way or another

im personally convinced he sits behind a computer starts a flame bit sits back and laughs at the commotion it causes

andron3107d ago

You only have to look at Greenburgs statements and laugh...

wages of sin3107d ago (Edited 3107d ago )

Then support that claim. Don't just make blanket statements like that with no proof. Are you butt hurt because the man does his freaking job?

What about:
Ken Kutaragi
Kevin Butler
Kaz Harai

Do the things they say (or have said in the past) matter? Or is your hatred just towards anything with a Microsoft label? I preferred Bell and Moore, but the man does his job. Stop being a hypocritical hater.

qface643107d ago (Edited 3107d ago )

doing his job?
i wasn't aware twittering flame bait for no reason was his job? because if it is i can do his job even better than he can

all these reps and heads have taken jabs at each other you can't deny that but said reps took said jabs because they were being asked questions that lead to those reps taking said jabs

greenberg has a history of saying flame bait ALLOT out of no where for no reason whatsoever (hence the term GIANT TROLL)

you don't see reggie going on twitter and randomly saying (wii play is outselling halo 1,2,3, odst and wars COMBINED)which it is btw

see where im getting at now?

Narutone663107d ago

He's the father of Bungie/GreenRingOfLife.

Syronicus3107d ago

So what is his job then? VP of douche-baggery?

RageAgainstTheMShine3107d ago

.... as a spokesman.

Sony has a PR man that has a more civilized manner of promoting their products and delivers the best ad campaigns ever crafted. Kevin Butler ads make people happy and do more good to the industry compared to any negative thing this trash talk from Microsoft can ever achieve.

Happy PS3 gamers should not stoop down to Microsoft lowlife publicity stunts like this.

He is just doing his job, he is paid to trash talk, he is paid to downplay the competition, he is paid to make noises, outside of Microsoft he is just an ordinary man.

Don't hate the person but hate the operating system running Microsoft Game Division.

So keep your cool guys and think clearly.

Don't give in to the temptation to go down this abysmal level.
Don't be a victim of low level sensational journalism too.

IdleLeeSiuLung3107d ago (Edited 3107d ago )

So far, I haven't heard a comment that is worse than Ken Kutaragi:

* "The PS3 is not a game machine"
* "Beating us for a short moment is like accidentally winning a point from a Shihan (Karate master), and Microsoft is still not a black belt. Just like with their operating systems, they might come out with something good around the third generation of their release."
* "I believe we made the most beautiful thing in the world. Nobody would criticize a renowned architect’s blueprint that the position of a gate is wrong. It's the same as that."
* "Microsoft shoots for the moon. Sony shoots for the sun."
* "This time, Microsoft has stated clearly that it is going after PlayStation. However, they're going not after the PlayStation 3, but the PlayStation 2. They were looking at 2, and that's why Xbox 360 became like that."
* "With the PS3, our intentions have been to create a machine with supercomputer calculation capabilities for home entertainment."
* "The PS3 will instill discipline in our children and adults alike. Everyone will know discipline."
* "Microsoft is trailing behind us, but they are not a threat. They are good at improving [on products], but we will be advancing to the next level with revolutionary technology."
* "We’re not going to equip the PS3 with a HDD by default, because no matter how much capacity we put in it, it won’t be enough."

This one though is a direct INSULT TO CUSTOMERS:

* PS3 is "for consumers to think to themselves 'I will work more hours to buy one'. We want people to feel that they want it, irrespective of anything else."

In fact, all of those quotes except for the supercomputer one is today (or ever) not a fact!

What is more shocking is the fact that Ken Kutaragi, the father of PS is conducting himself in such an unprofessional manner... So no company is perfect, as people will be people and when there are people there are plenty of idiots that should keep their mouths shut!

You ps3 fans just take it that way. Sony reps say similar kinds of things but it never makes headlines because 360 fans just aren't that sensitive.

It is his job to point out the good in his product and the bad in the competitor's product. I can't believe some of you can't understand that. It's like you take it as a personal offense.

Optical_Matrix3107d ago

gamer explain to me when Sony reps have tweeted childish things like this. Out of nowhere...

qface643107d ago (Edited 3107d ago )

better question is why is it that when someone dislikes someone from microsoft or dislikes the way they handle something they are all of a sudden branded a sony/ps3 fan?

ipe3107d ago

but find Treton saying something like this.

There is clear difference between corporal culture.

The Wood3107d ago (Edited 3107d ago )

cause i remember a time was sony was labeled arrogant at time the ps3 was about to launch. I dont condone arrogance but you ALMOST couldn't blame them for feeling themselves...They'd won two gens straight from their entrance into the market. What has Aarons employers won in this industry....This dude is NA only and it shows...Just keep the competition out of your mouth and people may respect you more... Its a cultural thing...not 100% but if you check it most of the few MS's devs and their pr people often talk a lot of crap about the comp. Its eastern culture verses western culture, maybe even more American culture not exclusively MS vs SONY.

Europeans are a little more reserved when speaking about competitors, American culture has a lot of downplaying of competitors... Its not 100% like this all of the time ( in before some twat shows me one or two articles showing x from the east acting like greenberg ) im just saying its more intrinsic of the culture. Even if you look at the laws of advertising in europe you'll see that it was pretty much prohibited to mention competitors brands in a disparaging way up until early to mid 90's where as this type of practice has been fair game in NA for like ever, again..the culture

Narutone663107d ago

a lot of countries hate the U.S.
Must be a cultural thing.

8thnightvolley3107d ago

very true sony makes this comments like every other day but no one start flaming on the net but once 360 does OMG..very childish i wont lie..

"Why’s Everyone So Upset With Greenberg?"

Because fanboys in general are stupid. They complain about everything they don't agree and can't accept what other people have to say.

It doesn't happen only with consoles.... it' happens with religion, politics, football...

tinybigman3107d ago

he says stuff without thinking and because he's an arrogant douche. i know this may sound fanboyish but i don't like people who talk constant sh*t.

vhero3107d ago (Edited 3107d ago )

Because he is like every other MS exec he thinks US is the only continent on planet earth. That A good enough reason for ya?? MS do so well in US obviously because of the sheer amount of advertising there (and fair play to em for doing such a good job) but OMG do they bang there trumpets.

Consoldtobots3107d ago

I agree that alot of Ps3 fans jump at every little thing that comes out of the MS camp. When instead they should be cool customers here knowing they have the superior platform and the competition is just flailing as their sales dwindle.

BrutallyBlunt3107d ago (Edited 3107d ago )

People need to just sit back and ask themselves if any of this stuff really matters? Some people actually get upset over this, why? This is marketing. Sony has been doing this for years so why is this an issue now?

I don't get any kickbacks by promoting the Playstation 3 or Wii or XBOX 360, so why does it seem so many on forums like this do? Greenberg does it for a reason, his job is to promote the XBOX 360. We the consumers shouldn't feel obliged to defend or condone their actions. There's no reason to.

Raoh3107d ago

why do you have to blog what can be discussed in a thread that already reported his comments?

dizzleK3107d ago (Edited 3107d ago )

because he's gone from a pr guy to an absolute tool. nintendo and sony lay out some whoppers but this guy is a disaster and totally turns me off from the xbox brand, especially when their fanboys emulate that douchey, asshole frat boy attitude.

gamer20103107d ago

Sure, fanboy. Go cry in the corner.

I could show you lots of examples where Sony reps have said things just as bad and even worse, but of course you are so biased that everything Sony says is simply "the truth", while anything MS says is seen as a horrible attack on your precious ps3.

Krugsy3107d ago (Edited 3107d ago )

Well I consider myself pretty unbiased towards any of the consoles, but honestly, Greenberg has really appeared on my radar as being quite a stirrer. Yes, i've heard some pretty bad stuff come from the other companies (thats how businesses are), but Greenberg (and I don't mean ALL MS employees) just seems to have that special aura of douchebaggery. His comments come across more as flamebait rather than an honest company ego inflation.

EDIT: Gamer2010, please, if simply i'm misguided, show me these other comments and i'd gladly change my position.

EDIT2: I dont like him because he has a receding hairline...J/K

Consoldtobots3107d ago

anytime a troll uses phrases like

"Your God Sony" "your precious Ps3" = MAJOR BUTTHURT

120FPS3107d ago

Of course he is a Fanboy, he works at MS. He is hardly going to say anything other than how great his products are and how well they are saying...durrrrr

DORMIN3107d ago

Because he is a grown ass man with a career and continues to act like fanboy.

Dsnyder3107d ago

Of course he is not supposed to support the competition but at the same time, there is no class in his attacks against the competition. He is supposed to be a professional but most of his comments buil down to immature fanboyism and outright lies. Saying Halo 3 outsells every sony exclusive combined is simply not true (he is only counting US sales which is only a fraction of the market). Saying FF13 runs better on 360 is not true. Saying "Sony sucks LOLZ!" is unprofessional.

kasasensei3107d ago

Maybe because he's talking about sales and not about quality games, most of the time? i don't know.

DelbertGrady3107d ago (Edited 3107d ago )

Yeah. Halo 3 is not a quality game. That's why over 10 million gamers chose to buy it and still play it to this day. Real "quality" games are the ones that no one buys, are good for one playthrough and are forgotten in less than 3 months.

@Optical_Matrix - Still, it's a better indicator of poor sales. After all consumers = gamers opinions, whereas reviews only equal one persons opinion. Over 8 million people would review COD MW 2 as a "buy". And seeing how much online activity it has it seems it's a quality game in the sense that lots of people think it's fun to play. It has lots of bugs, but in the end gameplay and fun factor is always the most important aspect in wether you play a game or not.

To some, a well-coded, completely bug-free game might be quality, but if it's boring as hell to play it's not quality to me. Games are meant to be played, no?

Optical_Matrix3107d ago

Going by your logic, the 14 million + people who bought MW2 must have bought a quality game too. Soda, quality is subjective. Just because EIGHT million people bought Halo 3 it doesn't mean the game is quality. Quality does not equal sales. I'm not saying Halo 3 is good or bad, I don't have a legit opinion on the game as I haven't played it enough, but I'm just pointing out the fault in your terrible arguement.

twoheadedturtle3107d ago

Not saying the game is bad quality, but a lot of those sales have to do with huge marketing budget, hype, and uneducated consumers. It is a good game....but the sales don't mean its the most fun or best quality. Yes, it is possible that what could possibly be your favorite game you will never play because there was no marketing or you never heard of it.

For me, I never heard of Shadow of Collusus or played it while I had a ps2. I almost missed the game altogether. By chance I got to play it last year and it has become one of my favorite games of all time. Sales do not mean much....
