SCEA: $499 PS3 Boosts Sales 135% at Top 5 Retailers

According to Sony Computer Entertainment America's internal tracking, PS3 sales increased by more than 135 percent at the company's top five retailers since the new $499 price was introduced back on July 9. assume this is true for all retailers, we should be expecting ~230k (~98k + ~132k) sales in July which is not really that impressive yet.

Compared to what?
Everything else is cheaper. If it sold more than the cheaper consoles, it would be embarrassing for the others!

For a console that "is a Trojan Horse" with "terrible online" and "no games" it's doing damn fine, thank you very much.

I just reread my post above, and I sound aggressive.
Didn't mean for it to come across that way, and from your reply it seems you didn't take it that way. Thanks.

well compare to XBOX 360 then, it just slightly better xbox 360 sales. I was expecting 300k+ not low 200k

i think ive heard something about PS3 sales on here before.

This is getting boring now

Let's be honest, the way PS3 was slumping, sales only had one direction to go!

GoLeafsGo4166d ago

I was thinking the EXACT same thing.

Good news for Sony, I guess, but I don't expect this to last too long.
Hopefully, with the plethora of quality [based on previews and trailers] games coming out in the next 3-4 months, the PS3 might actually start racking up sales figures.

This sounds to me like Sony PR damage control because they got a look at the official NPD numbers for June.

macalatus4166d ago (Edited 4166d ago )

Okay... So, my interpretation of your comment is that Sony decided to release the RECENT figures as a way to hide the fact they didn't actually sell RECENTLY. Funny, but whoever posted that article (the NPD article) possibly had the same agenda. Though I won't argue that the PS3 wasn't exactly selling like hotcakes in June '07, the RECENT figures were based on consumer trends AFTER the JULY E3 event.

EDIT: That greatly clears a whole lot, Razer. Thanks for the reply. And oh, I apologize for my rough tone in my post.

Oh, you made an 'edit' reply to my post!! Oh, sorry, did I truly hurt your feelings? Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!

I know better than SCEA does about their sales numbers. I'm just saying let's wait until the facts are out on the table which they obviously aren't yet. The timing on this annoucement is suspect to me. In regards to the NPD numbers, they were released and posted and are fact vs. a company saying we sold XXXX.

I really hope they are true. I'd like to see a price cut so if the cut did boost sales then it might become more permanent and then the 360 will follow suite.

15% software increase...damn I can't wait for the games to come out. The hardware sales would go up even more once the bigger games start coming.

For some reason "minna no golf" is a massive hit down there and they love it. Its coming out on the 27th.
