White-Washing in Prince of Persia

Prince of Persia is a series set in the exotic Arabian desert. It was a shock that Hollywood would decide to cast a white actor as the Prince in the film adaptation. Does this stem from years of white-washing in the video game series? What's really at play here? Is it racism? Fear? G4tv examines this trend in the series.

The story is too old to be commented.

hmm...maybe it was cause he is a decent actor and maybe kinda looks like the character? nah, that cant be obviously has to do with white-washing or even racial discrimination /s

i highly doubt this has anything to do with the sort...if i was a director or whatever, i would prolly cast him as well and mainly because it looks the part...i wouldnt care about the race, unless it was for a character that has only been described in books, but not actually drawn out or seen visually

Blaze9292994d ago (Edited 2994d ago ) must not know much about the casting sequence. They can easily make anyone 'look the part' if the acting is good enough.

It ultimately just comes down to how much longer hollywood will continue white-washing in movies. I mean, only in hollywood can you star a white guy to play a role of a Persian. Prince of PERSIA....they don't make whites their princes (if they still do all that Prince stuff).

You should watch this clip lol and skip to @1:45

"The Last Samurai starring...Tom...Cruise? He's the last Samurai? The Mexican with Brad Pitt and now they've got The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise. Well I've written a film...The Last N***a on Earth starring Tom Hanks, how about that?"

LOL. You just gotta admit, sometimes it makes no damn sense.

I never really actually noticed or cared until I saw the first pictures of The Last Airbender. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Zuko Asian?:

so why the hell do they got the leftover from slumdog millionaire playing his role:

same for Katara and Sakka:

but this is what we get:

and yes, I am a fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender V_V

for the most part, i agree with you in that there are some roles that white actors shouldnt have played...but jake as dastan wasnt that far of a stretch

i personally know a white guy that at first i assumed was arabian and a persian that i thought was white, both in highschool

"Well I've written a film...The Last N***a on Earth starring Tom Hanks" - that was funny.
I am white, so i guess i am biased if i say "who cares". But i would probably feel different if table were turned. Dont worry guys white race is dying, low birth rate, only 10% of world wide population atm, your time is coming in some 100-150 years just be patiente :)

stop sticking black actors in the roles of historically white characters like nick fury, karate kid, i am legend, the kingpin and the upcoming kane&lynch. it goes both ways.

is this why there's so much commotion over the next spidey being black?

I'll admit, what they are doing to Avatar is pretty screwed up. Don't go changing shit that isn't original. I'm sure we wouldn't have wanted a black Goku in that Dragonball movie...hell, we didn't even want that movie. So don't go making an asian character Indian.
