The PlayStation people promise a lot of things. They did one year ago. Now those promises and plans are being checked, by Kotaku, to see which elements of their E3 2009 Sony hype came true and which did not.
Interesting article. I will give Sony props that at E3 '09, they pretty much shut their mouths and let their games do the talking. They showed off more games than Nintendo and Microsoft combined.
"Final Judgment: This was a bold showing by Sony full of more and, Natal aside, more ambitious promises than the Microsoft and Nintendo E3 2009 events. Unfortunately, it was also the press conference with the most whiffs, missing the release dates of MAG and Move and a batch of PSP games. Oddly, the constrained hype for the PSPgo was spot on. For making such a big deal of the motion controller and getting that timeframe so wrong, and for being somewhat smoke-and-mirrors with some of the hype here (35 PS3 exclusives?), Sony gets a C." "Final Judgment: A job well done by Nintendo, in terms of accurate promises. None of the release date promises was broken and the hype on the Vitality Sensor was kept conservative. I can only dock Nintendo for a little bit of sleight of hand, setting up the MotionPlus as a next big thing in motion control while slightly fudging the device's accuracy — and more importantly — the extent to which it was going to be supported by Nintendo and its friends. Nintendo, your powers of prognostication earn you an A-minus." "Final Judgment: Decent performance, Microsoft, but that Natal stuff.... I don't know. Is it really going to do all that? The release date accuracy was pretty good, but that Metal Gear thing was confusing and the Natal stuff was incomplete. Impressive roll-out of promised dashboard features. Overall, you're getting a B."
Thanks for posting. I never give this site hits because it has the worst people running it. Or maybe I'm just not into what gamers like because to me xbox and ps3 did pretty good and it was Nintendo that was lacking.
Lol Kotaku/Destructiod are ridiculous with an even more ridiculous community. I remember saying how the 50 cent game was going to be trash and was flamed because the preview article spoke so highly of it (with ads for it plastered all over).

IDK about the psp but so far sony been delivering in terms of games on the ps3. But in terms of features on the psn no. Because there are tons of people waiting for certain features besides cross game chat. We got very good games now we just need to get some features and also see what this psn premium has to offer.
Besides the long and still on going wait for a Party chat , The quality of games PS3 has put out does walk the walk..
PS3 has delivered on games....going back to last years E3...the PS3 games have spoken for themselves..this year with natal and motion and 3D. I just hope Sony and MS understands, its about the games...
wow why am i not surprised? Sony always gets the C, they are 3rd right? they obviously suck xD PS3 = most solid value per buck quality console with the best exclusives did the promises come true? well yeah, people just didn't like what was promised...doesn't mean they weren't fulfilled so tbh, its fair it gets a C because the site is right and im not./s
you sound really bitter :| Read the article and it's obvious why they gave a C. So so many things they announced got delayed. There were a ton of games that didn't/haven't met their promiced release dates and Move was supposedly coming out in Spring...
and you're the Boogeyman.... Kotaku and the whole world is biased against sony, funny thing is if Kotaku or any site would have praised sony and said sony's E3 vs what they delivered was A+, none would mention how biased Kotaku are, instead we'd only hear things like "yeah, you're damm right sony delivered big time!" or "ha ha even Kotaku(who hates sony) couldn't help but acknowledge how well sony did"=(damage control statement, so the next time a review is unfavorable you sony loyalists can go back to screaming "teh biased") in other words you give them creditability by acknowledging you agree with them when its of course what YOU WANT TO HEAR, but when its NOT what you want to hear, then "cut & paste" the usual "default biased comment" blah, blah, blah.....same as we've all seen and heard before, same pattern, it happens with every site, I've seen some sites praised one day and then bashed the next day, you kids have every angle covered, if they kiss sony's azz you'll say its well deserved, if they don't kiss sony's azz, or god help if they're critical of sony then of course "cut & paste" the old over-used "default biased comment". lmfao, sony extremists are funny. JOY
Whether it's a number or a grade, people always look at the rating at the end. I did get the impression that they were putting Sony down in the beginnning of the article but they still managed to be pretty fair about it all throughout. Saying they're biased about Sony just because they gave them a "C" without reading and arguing against their points is pretty immature. Especially how they perfectly contradicted Sony's claims with evidence (except in one case, where they explicitly stated they hadn't checked a claim - that too, a small unimportant one - and that it's not Sony's fault). They said Move worked just as promised and that Uncharted 2 was cool. What's the issue?
The issue is that Nintendo had the worst E32009 by far (were they even there) and they get an A- and MS show Natal and one multiplat game (MGR) and dashboard crap and they get a B. Sony by far had the best show and is delivering the games with a couple of delays and they get a C. Craptaku
I expect the same problem this E3 tbh, delays delays delays. You could argue that it's not just the publisher but the developer too, but the amount of times we've been promiced release dates only to see them get pushed back is crazy. excited for what we see at this E3 but i'll learn to take release dates with a pinch of salt lol
I get that they are rating press conferences based on hype and delivering but last year I watched sonys conference with a grin from beginning to end. In the end I was more satisfied with what sony presented, even though im looking forward to metroid, mario, crackdown and reach.
How was the price drop and Slim not mentioned? That was one of Sony's biggest announcements. Unless I am trippin and this was announced in some other fashion, but I thought that Kaz made that announcement at E3 09. Sue me if Im wrong here.
That's because the PS3 Slim and price drop (for systems at that time) were announced at Tokyo Game Show '09 and not E3 2009. http://ps3.ign.com/articles...
@Nike WRONG PS3 Slim and price drop were announced at leipzig GDC 2009 and not at the Tokyo Game Show 2009.
was the release dates. Sure there was several titles that missed their originally planed dates, However the delays were small and only shy by a few months. It wasnt like the delays set the games back half a year or more. and yes, how nice of Kotaku to over look several other Sony announcements made at E3 09.
lol I can see why Sony got a C lol move was supposed to arrive in spring? WTF is it then??? its not spring anymore its summer.
wasnt nintendo's biggest title at E3 2009 Scribblenauts, and a few announcements.... like mario galaxy 2 and metroid other m with very little footage as a multi-console owner nintendo had the least content available, really an A for motionplus and scribblenauts i guess
All biased aside that was pretty Harsh. Sony shipped a ton of exclusive games this year and most of them with the exception of White Knight Chronicles were stellar games. Sure PSPgo is not that great. But did anyone actually expect move to be out by Spring of this year. Also they said they were "shooting" for a Spring 2010 release date. They did not actually say for sure.
Well its true what the article stated. Most of the ps3 AAA titles came this year and i am getting impatient for Sony for not fixing its browser. As far as the ratings go well what do you expect Sony will always get the lowest grade. But I read what they say about Microsoft and is true Microsoft deliver what they promised whether is good or not on time. Sony doesnt get over it.
